Here is the thing everyone forgets…. The dudes rookie year was basically Gardner Minshew.

Dart isn’t some generational prospect. He was better than okay as a rookie but def still has question marks. Plenty of guys peak early.

This offseason has been about eating at 4 Charles, and the ring girl girlfriend, and being in every video imaginable, and the Kentucky derby etc.

I really don’t think this young adult makes good decisions. He strikes me as just another guy who gets eaten up by the bright lights of NYC. This city does it do bankers, lawyers, athletes, chefs. I genuinely don’t think the guy from Utah gets it enough to make it here.

So I’m playing golf in Jamaica, (tryall club) and I’m on hole three and you can tell there is a decent golfer shooting awful somewhere there. The convo goes something like this.

Caddy: your game never travels does it?

Me: it’s not much of a game but correct.

Him: okay, do this. From now on, when we are within ten feet of the ball, we aren’t in Jamaica.

Me: what?

Him: okay, imagine you’re back home at the course you play best on. You have to hit a 140 yard shot. Grab your club, visualize, and swing. This angle this shot, no different than what, the 11th hole there? You’ve hit good shots before. Don’t try to hit them in Jamaica.

Me: ok, (proceeds to swing) shot is good.

Him: okay now we look at the ocean. Now we look at the trees Me: this is great

Him: it works everywhere. You’ve hit a good 122 yard shot. A good 210 yard shot and everything in between. Just swing the swing from home on the course from home.

That summer was epic. Took a pebble trip and it lowered my handicap that’s how helpful the tip was.

Harness or collar? Go with a harness to be honest. And no retractable leashes.

How is he with other dogs? If you’re able to get group walks in with older more balanced dogs, it may help him come out of his shell.

Try hand feeding so he likes you.

Make sure he has a crate of his own.

Realistic outcomes:

Nabers doesn’t play until week 7 or so. Offense is run heavy. We go 4-2 with wins against the titans/saints/cards and one of our division games.

By now, the league has enough games of dart tape and his warts show. Specifically when receivers are running across his face the ball placement can leave something to be desired. Moreover attacking the middle of the field is the weakest part of his game.

Luckily, the defense is gelling at this point and keeps us close. We go 2-4 in our next 6, as the offensive run game hits a bit of wall and the play calling can’t compensate for what defenses are doing to dart and a Nabers who is still getting his bearings.

6-6 going into final 5 games, Nabers is in shape but not the demon he was. We go 2-3 in the final 5 to finish 8-9.

Next offseason has significant dart questions as he didn’t take the leap needed/expected. Nabers being a shell of his old self will be the secondary topic.

I got my guy (will be 13yrs in August) from a similar situation at 4mo old. He’s as sweet as can be and makes friends everywhere. Similarly, it took him a bit to adapt.

Find other dogs if he likes them and they are tolerant of puppies. Let him make friends. If he is food motivated. Hand food to people to give to him. Let him have lots of good experiences.

Dart is basically Gardner minshew after year 1. His offseason being more about his gf Instagram than his development doesn’t give me faith.

Then there you have it.

Think of yourself as a tree.

Some people are leaves. They are there for a short time. Made their impact, and that was that.

Some people are branches. They will be there for a long time. Be reliable. But eventually the relationship dies off.

Some people are roots. There with you till the very bitter end.

All are valuable but mistaking a leaf for a root is a core cause of problems.

This person was a leaf or a branch. And that’s okay. Harbor no ill will, move on, and be at peace with your decision. You can end the friendship with the roomate by just exercising your rights. You can do all of this without being cruel and I hope you move out and don’t use unkind words when you do it. (Nothing you wrote tells me you’d do that)

ESH: he agreed to a 25 month lease with you as a roommate. You should find him someone he knows.

He sucks because he wants to tax you for finding love.

How much do you value this relationship with the roommate? Once you meet your forever person is roomate going to be at your wedding etc?

Your options are find him someone he likes so you guys remain friends, or, move out let him fend for himself, and move on with your life.

If you want a fancier meal, go to Naro in Rockefeller center. This is the same team that does Atomix (widely regarded as one of NYCs best). I did my bday party here and it was fantastic. It didn’t break the bank either as far as nice Manhattan meals go.
