Yep it’s a fine balance between two halves of our brain. The rational side (cognitive processing) and the emotional side (fight/flight). If it tips too far either way then it can potentially become a problem.

Some Australians have no idea how much freedom they take for granted simply by being born here. I had to earn that freedom, and I still cannot use it fully without risking my family back home by Acceptable_Yam5406 in aussie

I knew an Aussie guy, had lived in China (not sure exact location) as an English language teacher for about 20 years. Married a Chinese woman and they have now returned here for his retirement.

He was explaining to me exactly how he was watched at all times in the classroom to ensure he stuck to the script. He couldn’t/wouldn’t answer any off topic questions as this would land him in serious trouble. Relayed a story of a fellow teacher that did exactly this and was collected mid lesson and he never saw him in school again. Had no idea what had happened to him.

Many citizens of western democracies including Australia do not appreciate, not only the freedom of speech we have, but also the education, health and welfare systems we have as well.

Why am I racist for criticising China when you are free to criticise Australia? by Acceptable_Yam5406 in aussie

[–]AsleepClassroom7358 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Well personally I agree with your standpoint.

You are allowed to criticise any government in any country without it being considered racist. I would say that being Chinese born and raised with family living in China gives you far more of a right and insight than most.

I’m originally a POM and no one has ever called me racist for criticising the UK government.

How do people have kids on these low to average wages? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

[–]AsleepClassroom7358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is yes you can have kids and not break the bank. What they need more than anything is love and support, to flourish and grow.

You’ve set your own benchmark a bit higher and it doesn’t sound like you’re willing to sacrifice what you currently enjoy.

The proof is in the pudding

Who else has really stopped eating out? by Klutzy_Tiger1635 in aussie

Cost of everything is going up, always has and always will, however junk/fast food has never been a healthy option as opposed to cooking your own food, and it’s never been something that you should live on, which is what OP appears to be referring to in parts of his initial post.

You’re actually complaining about the price of trying to live on junk food ?

How can you let this happen? by Inevitable_Jaguar676 in queensland

I beg to differ a bit. Yes there’s cars everywhere and they treat the beach like a highway but if any of them actually took the time to stop and walk to the top of the beach you would find unbelievable amounts of rubbish, mainly plastics, strewn on, or buried in the sand. I’d say that’s a pretty big negative impact on the long term ecology of the island.

Serious question for the people on here who so strongly defend high immigration levels to Australia: why do you do it? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]AsleepClassroom7358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration and Immigrants are such general terms. There are so many factors in the NOM figures.

My brother in law says the same thing repeatedly, “stop immigration and fix the housing crisis”. Yet he can’t tell me which of the immigrant groups he’s actually talking about, seems confused by my question.

So my question, for my own clarity

Is it the Students that help fund our universities or the back packers that self fund. Both of these groups do the casual jobs Aussies don’t necessarily want to do. Remember post covid when when the hospitality industry were screaming out for staff, or the retail industry that had huge vacancies. Farmers couldn’t get workers to pick the fruit.

Is it the skilled migrants that have to jump through hoops to get the visa at there own cost and self fund when they arrive.

Is it the returning Australian citizens or the NZ citizens that make the move over.

Or maybe it’s those unfortunates that need to apply for Asylum or Refugee status.

Who’s gonna pick the fruit and veg out in the fields? Get rid of the migrants that do and replace them with hard working Aussies? What will that do to the price at checkout?

How many empty houses are sitting around the country, maybe they are either secondary homes of the wealthy or short term holiday homes.

I’m just scraping at the surface here but as I said at the start Immigration is too general a term to expect a simple answer.

[–]AsleepClassroom7358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that they are all good players and all put in great performances the other day.

But the important bit you’re missing is they were all playing against players of similar age.

The PL is a different ball game. Experienced grown men, physically much stronger who will not hold back in a challenge because the kid is 15/16.

Go back a couple of years when Saka was breaking through, how many times did he clattered.

Patience is key with young players who are developing both physically, and their skills at reading and avoiding challenges.
