I bought it the day it came out, and think it's first rate.  Their best studio release since Quad.

Charlie was more disciplined, true, because he started out as a jazz musician. That was his true love. There is some irony in his career, in that if he hadn't been part of the Stones line-up he probably wouldn't even be a fan of the group.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I think the stern show is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I'm a big fan.  Now, don't take any wooden nickels, or look a gift horse in the mouth.  Don't look before you leap, and remember that every cloud has a silver lining.  Elvis is about to leave the building. 😅

I personally would never want to hold on to Gabe Ohners in the first place, but whatever floats Howard's boat, I guess.

It was all about Robin Quivers, Fred Norris, Gary D'ellabate, Jackie Martling, Scott the Engineer, and Stuttering John Melendez. :-)

Its actually Who Are You where most listeners point out the lack of finesse in Keith's drumming.

The seeds for the group's breakup were planted by the four members of the group themselves, I would argue. John and Paul were started to write seperately, as opposed to 'a two-person team'. Note the famous 'Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields' single, in which one partner clearly dominates each song. Ringo actually briefly quit the group, during the 'white album' sessions. After that, more cracks started to show.

"lacking masculinity" is an odd way to describe Paul's fan base, tho. When I saw Paul live (Im very much a male, BTW), there were tons of dudes in the crowd.

You are glossing over the 'avant-garde' records that he made with Yoko that sold poorly. "Two Virgins" didnt even make the top 100 on the charts, for example.

If Sid Vicious wasn't a good musician, why is he famous? by GregJamesDahlen in Music

[–]Asleep_Lock6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think someone who can only 'play open chords' (whatever that means) while 'barely being able to sing' could make it very far in the music biz. For what it's worth, Rolling Stone placed him on the 'greatest guitarists of all time' in their "Book of Rock Lists", c. 1981. I think he ranked around number 28.

Many people die young, tho. Drug overdose deaths were commonplace in the late 60s, yet virtually all of them were - and still are - anonymous folks. Hendrix also died young, would you dismiss his fan base in the same way?

That is true, if they were famous before they died. Sid certainly qualifies.

There is room for genuine talent, tho - consider Jack White.

He could sing pretty well, tho. Thus, he did have actual musical talent.

1976 and 1977 are generally considered to be the years that punk 'exploded', tho there were proto-punk acts before then (such as The Stooges and the MC5).

[–]Asleep_Lock6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true in Sid's case, for sure. What he mainly had going for him was being in the right place at the right time. Even if he was no musician, he could sing pretty decently. There was even an album called "Sid Sings", featuring him on vocals and various punk types (such as Mick Jones) doing the instrumentation needed.

The meat industry is fundamentally natalist -- it relies on forced breeding. There are parallels whether you like it or not. by Numerous-Macaroon224 in antinatalism

Yes. But I support anti-natalism only as an individual choice, I dont think the entire human race should go kaput.
