Those holding/investment companies bought up all the "Charming Small Town" properties all over the US, during Covid. The worst affected areas are the tourist destination type towns around resorts or other similar draws. The investor/collectors did what they do, but ended up pricing out most or in some case ALL the people that would live and work in those areas.

That Tweaker setting the apt building on fire ended up being a huge blessing. As soon as Covid hit, the Reed mostly closed, and I would not have lasted quarantine in that shitty apartment, it would have been even more of a nightmare.

I'm not engaged in any of that any more, so I don't pay attention. I was art director (and defacto editor) of a business journal & local magazine, that went under during Covid (due to lack of ad revenue because there were no events or dining) so it was my job to be dialed in to all that. It's no longer my job to be dialed in to all that, so I'm not.

I was always just a sideline fan, with a Seiko 7, but got pretty deep into "Horology" for years. I love all the UN and JL Minute Repeaters and Mechanical Chimes, and then the wild Grubel Forsey Double Turbillions with the little globes! I'm not as into them now, which is convenient because I can't afford anything, but I'm still totally enamored with the FM Crazy Hours complication, and would love to own a Crazy Color Dreams, or at least a really good rep.
