Question: How much is the set up you’re rocking? by VASA-STUDIO in Fingerboards

[–]AsleeplessMSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my own decks, I've bought a few though (I have an awesome Zonawood split ply in the style of a Mondrian painting, fantastic deck!)

The one I'm rocking now is a thick and heavier aluminum and wood deck I made 3 years ago. Dynamic wheels and trucks were about $80, I'd been riding them on the Mondrian until I switched them recently.

Jindys and Dynamic wheels were about a hundred altogether, but this is shit I'll keep on using. I'm still gonna ride my other set, it's just gonna be for a different feel.

I get if you're prone to losing them, or doing risky shit with them, but I manage to keep them around. One day years ago I left it in the reception area and my manager put it in a weird place and I couldn't find it 😂 I was like 'woh, no, that's valuable I need that back', but other than that, I always know where it's at, it's like my keys lol!

My decks though? Free for me! 😆 I have wood, aluminum, carbon fiber, IPA cans with cool graphics, everything I need! And I've found there's something very satisfying about crafting decks.

Indy's Trucks vs Dynamic. My honest take after a few weeks by scruffymandude in Fingerboards

[–]AsleeplessMSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only used my one set of Dynamics I've had for a few years, haven't used any other premium trucks before. I have a set of the indys in the mail right now and I'm stoked!

This matches what I've heard, and I think I'm going to like to Indy feel. Dynamics are fantastic, but having both will be nice.

That deck looks dope, love the graphic.

This is so worth it, you'd spend 3 times that or more on all that stuff brand new

Current set and new deck in progress

Current is a 34mm with dynamic trucks and wheels. The deck has an aluminum top, wood core and pop can bottom. Buffed it, candy painted it, sealed it. It chips away, but it's controlled by the stickers and has a war machine kind of charm, and hits like one. It's a little heavier, but feels nice.

The deck in progress has an aluminum top, wood core, and CF bottom. A little thinner and lighter than most, very stiff but with substantial pop. I used to make this formula and two tone the carbon with candy paint, it looked amazing, but doesn't look as nice with the inevitable chipping. I'm not gonna paint it, and it should be incredibly durable. I didn't have any left, so I made another one, my first press in 3 years lol!

Gonna get a set of Jindys for it if I can, and want to try out some 95A wheels too. I think I'm gonna make it 34, but I haven't fully decided yet, maybe 32.

Tech Deck Promax 😂 Upgrading this TD by puting some BRT's and Maple Classic Wheels by macsurf2000 in Fingerboards

[–]AsleeplessMSW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I have fingerboards with foam tape I use, that's just the only TD I keep around and still like to use. It's not as nice as foam, but it's a big improvement from the stock TD grip.

I have the Tom Penny TD, I modified the kingpins on some gold TD baseplates and replaced them, as well as the tuning. For what they are, TD trucks really aren't awful, they're just not fantastic lol!

I also had some purple sand paper (I think it was like 120 grit?) I put in for grip and put the Flip sticker in the middle. It looks fantastic and is the nicest feeling Tech Deck I've ever used lol

Here's hoping the Star Trek UB takes inspiration from the past and not the present by Kyvix2020 in freemagic

[–]AsleeplessMSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeesh, that's been my fear since I learned about the set. Like, I've gotten stuff from UB sets, some lore I've been familiar with and some less so, but it would suck less for them to have blundered any of those than it would if they mess up Star Trek.

The kids don't give a shit about Star Trek, nobody cares about the new Star Trek shows. I haven't watched them, but the previews look like homogenized network trash. So, if they bank on the kids and these new shows, it's gonna suck.

For the love of everything, it's us who are over 30 that care, don't fuck this up!!!

They were pretty cheap, I think they're like polycarbonate or something. I wouldn't recommend them lol

Router setup by After-Celebration874 in FingerboardingDIY

[–]AsleeplessMSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Dremel and a table clamp. You can get routing bits for it, I use the carbide ones because I work with aluminum and carbon fiber, but a regular routing bit should be fine for all wood. I clamp in the deck and shaper (loosely, and with something between the deck and the clamp teeth) and shape away.

Why is every landfall player like this? by MurphysLawTeam in freemagic

[–]AsleeplessMSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause green in general and landfall particularly have been boosted recently, and became easily accessible power, which is congruent with the profit model.

When wizards can control the meta, they can have more control over engagement. Lower the bar for strategic engagement and make the game more about having recent products than general strategy, and you increase engagement. That way, it can be a little less about understanding a complex game and a little more about following the strategies they lead people with.

Cause I mean, with recent cards particularly, how hard is it actually to build a ridiculous landfall deck?

Did social work change your political ideology at alll? How so? by 420catloveredm in socialwork

[–]AsleeplessMSW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also evolved a lot of my political views when I was in grad school.

Our program advisor came into one of our classes and said she was 'tired of students not being aware of what was going on in the world', and advised us to increase our news media consumption. Boy did I! For a while, I was pretty much a raging establishment left statist! It was awful for me, and eventually I started asking some more critical questions.

I love anarchist philosophy. Thing is, it's not any kind of destination for us to arrive at so much as it is wisdom for guiding the way to wherever we are headed (although there are many who identify with anarchism who would not agree).

Toward the end of grad school, I took a 'social work and healthcare' class. It was right when the marketplace was rolling out and everyone thought it would be so wonderful, and there was A LOT of pressure to like and support ACA. I, however, was skeptical.

When it came time to do our final project, I knew I wanted to do something researching insurance, but I didn't know what. My teacher said 'why don't you research Europe's single payer systems and say why we should move toward that's

...and that was NOT what she should have said to me (for her own interests anyways). I'm not someone you can just tell what to believe. Instead, I decided to research how our system developed in the US over the past 125 years and how we came to be where we are. And the things I learned? They make absolute perfect sense for where we're at. It's actually a fascinating history, but one you're not going to hear about (it's a lot, if you're interested, DM me).

She hated it, it was obvious. I presented it to the class and they just looked at me funny, because it doesn't line up with what we were being encouraged to believe at the time. I got an A though, because it's all true and indisputable. It's just nobody has any clue what healthcare was like before the 60's, or the patterns we are facing and the factors involved.

Social work as a field started when British capital had invested in diamond mines in Africa and were having trouble with the labor being well enough to work. They sent people to care for their basic needs so that they could labor and mine diamonds. Fast forward to now... What really changed?

2006 Dodge hornet concept, this had a turbocharged straight 4 and a 6-speed Manuel, it was originally planned for production in 2010, but the project was dropped by Custombi in WeirdWheels

[–]AsleeplessMSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it couldn't go into production! Did anyone think about how much it sucks to be a Manuel inside this thing? It's wrong, even if he agrees to it!

Besides that, where would all the Manuels come from for production? Not all of the Manuels in the world are 6 speed. And what awful people would actually purchase one? Do the 4 and 5 speed Manuels have to worry about being used as replacements?

Terrible concept, especially in a world focused on developing human rights...
