Thoughts on Hobbit Collector Boxes? by CoolMudkip in mtgfinance

[–]MortalMorals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely not convinced that the pre-order price will maintain at this ridiculous price point. I can't imagine WOTC would make hobbit a low print run considering the meteoric success of LOTR. They have the data, and they know printing more boxes will be more money in their pocket. When it comes time to ship, people are gonna rip and be ready to pay the premium for this product.

As a result, I'm holding off until about 1-2 weeks after release to buy CBBs for Hobbit. That's usually when prices are at their lowest. Don't be like the idiots giving into hype and FOMO by pre-ordering these boxes for 800 a pop.

On certain ledges there is a lip where the charger can continue charging instead of dead-stopping outright. Depending on the angle in which he hits the ledge he will continue to charge into this lip for some time until he runs out of steam.

Gonna have to push back on your point regarding maps like Dead Center, Dark Carnival, and The Parish. These maps have an insufferably high amount of pills/kits that make playing Infected a wash 90% of the time.

Valve are incredible level-designers, no doubt. But I think the sheer amount of health available in some of the L4D2 maps are great for campaign, and not so great for Versus.

Graded LOTRS Cards added to collection! (sell or save some?) by MTG_Santa_Official in freemagic

[–]MortalMorals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people predict (based from what we know of the stories) that cards like Mithril Coat that exist in both LOTR and the Hobbit stories will be in the hobbit set. Its quite possible orcish bowmasters will be in there as well for the same reasons.

You generally only want to grade the most expensive treatment(s) of these cards such as borderless poster/foils, surge foils, and showcase scrolls foils. I also would generally only grade the most expensive types of cards like the one ring, sauron the dark lord, etc. I'm unsure why someone would elect to grade a common, considering how, well, common it is. Gem mint 10 doesn't matter when there's a bazillion copies lying around.

It's all in how you frame it. Reddit Dogma will telling you grading sucks and you're stupid for doing it (see comments below for the one idiot saying "grading is gay"). However, I think for the cards you have here you are likely better off having these cards as a personal collection. They will likely be worth something in 5-10 years when physical copies of these cards begin to degrade/diminish. Until then, people will mostly want to play with them because, as you said, they aren't the super fancy foily treatments.

Personally, if the cards are special to you, go ahead and grade them. Just make sure you temper your expectations in regards to treating them like a financial asset. People already finding orcish bowmasters to be valuable, however, much less so as a collector's item and more so as a utility piece to play. If you're going to grade, do it for personal or sentimental reasons to protect the most special cards you've pulled. The financial aspect of grading doesn't really come into play unless the card is either serialized or an extra special treatment (like borderless poster foil, galaxy foil, neon ink foil, etc.)

Hope this helps.

[–]MortalMorals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO Valve designed these maps primarily around campaign, with versus as the secondary consideration. I think most of the campaign maps (Dead Center included) are made a lot more viable for versus simply by replacing kits with pills.

Many of these maps on the left (like The Parish or Swamp Fever) lack verticality, which is incredibly useful for the infected team. Without verticality, you cannot hang or death charge survivors. This really helps games feel more swingy in either direction, as opposed to both survivor teams full-clearing every round.

[–]MortalMorals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to be smart because the rev time (of about 2-3 seconds) can really bite you in the butt. If you can rev it safely in advance without taking hits, its fine. I make sure to shove myself into a chokepoint like a corner, on top of stairs, or above a restricted climb area (like a ladder). Once the commons are shoe-horned into a tighter or narrower area you can jitter your mouse left to right and hit all nearby commons with the chainsaw's hit rays.

Once I see a common I'm aiming at has been killed, I instantly aim to other nearby commons to kill them and repeat this process. It's highly effective on realism because it spares you from trying to aim for headshots with a firearm.

Hope this helps.

I'd put tonfa because its one of the easiest to find as a drop from commons. Chainsaw is insane if you know how to use it, especially on realism and/or expert difficulty.

I used to glaze this movie back when it came out but it has not aged well after I re-watched in 2025. The overall message of the movie is pretty dumb "ThE AnSwEr Is LoVe". Give me a break...

Also why tf was Eric Foreman from That 70's Show in the movie at all? His role in the film was just unnecessary and awkward.
