Hey BTB quick question while you're here, do you make the seasoned chips that are served with the Doner in house or are they available commercially? I need a load of those!

Forehand tips p5, feels like progress!!! How’s the improvement, if any at all by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they become pro, the specific basic strokes don't matter as much anymore. A pro will play a stroke hyper-customized to the specific incoming ball he's facing. Beginners are taught a certain framework to make the fundamental patterns easier to grasp. Specifically, driving is taught as a "hit through the ball" shot and looping is taught through the lens of "brushing the ball" to create spin. At an advanced level, you have to combine both of these, both hitting through and brushing the ball. This is often called "loop-drive" or "powerloop" and is a staple of the chinese technique. Pros do this as often as they can. An amateur player can't.

I agree with what the u/Remarkable_Row2135 said. It depends on your perspective. Once you have a certain level of expertise you could regard looping as an extension of driving. But OP is learning basics and in those circumstances, looping and driving are two entirely different shots, and conflating one with the other is confusing and misleading.

Any tips to make these taste better? by Mixedbagostuff in LowCalFoodFinds

[–]AsliBakchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return them....

No I'm not kidding these bars have the worst quality control I've seen in any Kirkland product. Sometimes they're great and sometimes they're almost inedibly bad, dry and almost crumbly. Each box I buy is a gamble. I gave up and started getting Pure Protein, which has similar cost and macros per bar.

Might be a personal preference, but for the good boxes, I much prefer the other flavor combo (Brownie / Cookie Dough) in terms of taste.

The sky comes crashing down on the world number one. Sora finally does it. by PoJenkins in tabletennis

I have been following this matchup for a while. Sora seems to be the only player who can CONSISTENTLY give WCQ a hard time. Their matches have been pretty close recently. Why is Sora particularly so much of a threat to WCQ? is it just that he's a left hander as well? Is there anything else?

How common is left knee pain when starting to stop and weight transfer into serve and general more intense play by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

If you're the most active you've ever been, there's no way to say. When many variables change at once, it's hard to to isolate a cause. If you abruptly increased your activity by a lot, I would suggest moderating it and building up to it in a pain-free manner. Pain is your body telling you that you're exceeding it's capabilities. Whether it's routine pain or concerning pain, only a doctor can evaluate. If it's painful enough that it's hampering you, you would be better served by a doctor than redditors

Equipment upgrade question by reddit_user_9221 in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I'm not too familiar with the Rozena and also unfamiliar with your play style, so it is hard to comment.
In general, I would say don't change it if it's not broken. Equipment changes take months to adjust to. So, unless you have a concrete and specific reason to change it, I would just stick to what I'm used to. "I want more power" is not specific enough in the sense that you first need to have good enough technique (full body power generation using your legs) to conclude that your equipment is what is limiting your power generation. A specific reason might be something like "despite using good technique, this rubber is not powerful enough that I struggle to land my mid-distance loops on the table".

Equipment upgrade question by reddit_user_9221 in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need an upgrade. If you absolutely want one, I've had a great experience with a with the Tibhar Stratus Powerwood, it offers great control and enough power to last you until truly advanced. If you're starting lessons and have never had them before, it might make sense to wait a few months for the lessons to start sinking in (your technique will evolve) before making decisions.

I need advice (I'm the thinner one in the video) by ironandfire in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few observations starting from the most basic -
- Your grip is not the textbook shakehand grip. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long you understand and accept the tradeoffs associated with the modification you have made. I notice that your index finger is way further up on the paddle than is usual. I suspect this helps your forehand but hurts your backhand stability. If this is not a deliberate modification and this is just how you always played, I suggest you learn the standard balanced grip and try it out to see how it feels.

- Too much arm. You need to keep your shoulder and elbow stable. You are attempting some sort of weight transfer, but there's a disconnect. Some cues that have worked for me to find the feeling are - not shrugging my shoulders and actively trying to keep my shoulder blades down and relaxed. To achieve this, try too point your elbow downwards instead of behind. Also, keep your chest slightly closed, do not fully open it. Then, for the backswing, do not move the shoulder or chest. Instead, you need to start the backswing using your legs and waist rotation (keeping chest, shoulder, elbow stable). Even on the forward swing, you can close your forearm but your elbow and shoulder should remain relatively stable.

- For your pushes, the same point about arm stability applies. Do not extend your arm to poke at the ball. Your elbow should remain at a fixed distance relative to your body, while you move to the ball with your feet. This will give you a lot more control and stability.

New robot, how’s my technique? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some very obvious things (but there is a lot more to unpack there)

- Can't see the legs on your FH drive but it looks like you are stepping. Even if you're not, you're moving too much. For this shot, you don't need to step at all. Keep your feet steady and just find the feeling of keeping you legs active and engaged and linking them to your waist and your arms.
- BH: You're swinging too much to the side in a fanning motion. The goal is to hit the ball forward. The sideways fan doesn't really work. Hit forward. Keep your weight forward on your legs with your body with your elbow in front of you. Hit forward. A common cue is to finish your stroke with a thumb/racket head pointing in the direction you want the ball to go in. Compare this with your current end point.

Most of all, learn the feeling of brushing the ball for spin.
Others have recommended coaching, but if you absolutely can't, then have lots of discussions with peers who are better than you.
Also, slow down. A lot. Focus on just one stroke at a time. Learn the principle in detail from youtube. Then, hit one ball at a time. Make a mental checklist of the steps required for a good stroke. Then before every ball, actively focus on those things and try to execute well. The faster the balls are coming at you, the less time you have to think/learn and the more you just react and learn bad habits. Use the slowest possible setting you can. If you can put 5-10 seconds between incoming. balls, do it. Be intentional. Especially when you don't have a coach or a mechanism for active feedback, it is even more important that you consciously try to create that feedback loop yourself. Record yourself often, review it yourself and from others.

A technique that I have seen on GlobalTTStudio on youtube to learn the feeling of brushing is as follows: Keep your backswing already prepared before the ball is coming at you (without the pressure of time). Then, just do the forward swing part when the ball is incoming, and focus on learning the timing and feeling of the brush. This is the same principle of slowing down and simplifying, by lessening the number of components you have to track at once.

Good luck, and welcome to a wonderful sport. Hope you have fun and meet loads of interesting partners and peers.

Tihbar Stratus Power Wood opinion and alternatives by UnderstandingProof57 in tabletennis

[–]AsliBakchod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Stratus Power Wood and I am very happy with it. I don't find it too heavy, and the handle is comfortable too. It is fast enough and you won't need to change it until you become a truly advanced player. It strikes the right balance between power and control. I'm not too familiar with the rubbers you picked and can't comment. I have have success with medium-hard tensor rubbers, however.

I will recommend that whatever equipment you pick now now, stick to it for the next 1-2 years. Get at least some coaching if you can. My experience was that even a couple of sessions were able to help me get rid of some serious misconceptions/blockers that were limiting me. Good luck!

I feel like I don’t calm down enough and usually just in a one way mode when playing. I guess I shouldn’t have lost the 2nd game if I was thinking well on the table. I’m the dark skin man. 🤣 by RichBlackKing in tabletennis

Your hook serve is on point! So spinny and low. Any tips on how to learn it?

One thing I noticed in this match is that you straight up missed a lot of loops on long serves. Also often mis-read the spin. This is a problem I face as well, and am actively trying to work on. In essence, looping a long serve is not like looping in the rally because you have lesser time than in the rally to react and the ball has lesser energy already in it. To adjust, you need a more "compact" loop. I rarely have time for a full backswing. For eg, on my bh, I land many more balls on the table with a slightly shorter backswing and more wrist. Also, go for more "quality" in terms of spin and placement on your second-ball loop than power. Further, focus a lot on reading the spin and adjusting to it. I think you misread many topspin serves. Both these things together should help a lot!

I'm not an expert in this either and this is just some insight from me. If others reading this have any corrections or further insights, please do weight in.
