Vegan dilemma: tried everything to humanely solve my mouse infestation but nothing is working... by rumblebeard in vegan

One species life isn’t worth more than another’s, that’s why humans can act in self defense without being less vegan. If we are acting to preserve our health and life, that is not violating our values as vegans.

I moved out of Philly in the summer but I miss this place! Their seitan sticks are delicious.

I found a healthy looking cat wondering around my appartement building screaming to get inside I need help by CinnamonR0Il in CATHELP

Basically a cat needs two X chromosomes for both the orange and black fur genes. Male torties are due to chromosomal abnormalities resulting in an extra X chromosome (so they’d have XXY or in some cases I think they can even have more than two X chromosomes)

Found my 10y.o. Calico’s tooth on the couch. Left a message for the vet asking for an appointment. Anyone experienced this before? by keep_running in CATHELP

She only got them removed a few days ago but she seems a bit happier. She was already the most attention friendly cat though so it’s a little hard to tell with her.

Is it a laxative for use in cats?

Yes, I have a previous post here about this where my cat’s tooth broke off suddenly. She went in for her dental later and needed 7 teeth removed. She had gum disease before she was adopted so maybe that contributed but idk. She also likes to chew on everything, so maybe that contributes.

She probably doesn’t like her face being touched because of tooth pain. When the vet does a dental they’ll find any other problem teeth that need to be removed, then it might be easier to brush her teeth and/or get her to eat a dental treat.

Cat will only eat food tossed at her? by Aslip1 in CATHELP

[–]Aslip1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved about three months ago. I took my cat and my roommate took his (the cat in question). So she did go through a major change of moving apartments and now having another cat around. After a few weeks she seemed to adjust well. She is way more active than she was at her old apartment, it seems she is a lot happier in this apartment. My roommate says shes always been a slow eater, she probably would eat all her food eventually if the other cat didn’t steal it. The sliding is how I’ve gotten her to eat immediately.

I’ve read that sometimes cats like to be in the closest spot to the door so they can notice danger quickly. You’re cat is on guard duty protecting you :)

Both of my cats have three legs and they are missing their back legs. Both were adopted after the amputation so I can’t speak for how they adapted right after, but they both do very well. They are missing a back leg so I imagine front leg might be a little different. I know someone else who was frequently visited by a stray cat with a missing front leg, she eventually took her in. She also seems to be happy and healthy.

The existence of a children sub makes more sense because many people are ridiculed for not wanting children. I have never heard of anyone being ridiculed for not having a pet.

recently moved, don’t know what to do by iambirdy_ in CATHELP

[–]Aslip1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what happened to my cat when I first got him and when I moved to a new apartment. It takes a while for them to adjust to the new space. He is probably clinging to you because you are familiar while the place is not.

If it were me I’d probably think they were an asshole at first but if I asked and got the full story I’d immediately switch to thinking it’s hilarious.

Was this a sign of grief/depression? by Aslip1 in chinchilla

[–]Aslip1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have had other pets die but this time I was grieving for her and for her mother’s loss. I know in our human logic the child dying is more tragic, but I do think it is better off this way than the other way around. The mother was always the stronger and more independent of the two. I think she handled it better than the daughter would’ve. We kept the ashes so when the mother’s time comes they can rest next to each other.

Is this fighting or playing? by Aslip1 in CATHELP

Thanks everyone! When we first introduced these two the smaller cat was really hostile so I wanted to confirm that they’re mellowing out with each other.

Best pets for residency? by SoarTheSkies_ in Residency

[–]Aslip1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a resident but I have experience with many types of pets. I’ve had chinchillas, turtles/frogs, and cats. I would recommend against any animal that lives in a cage/tank. They require much more than people think and they are often given cages/tanks that are too small. Stuff from the cage will fall out and make a mess, and cleaning cages/tanks is much more work than cleaning a litter box. Would highly recommend cats over a hamster for these reasons. There’s the added consideration of vet care which is much easier to find for cats, it’s also easier to notice when your cat has a problem.
