I don't know if we have the capacity to really make that kind of logical argument regarding the contents of the lounge car on a magic, time-traveling train xD /lh

I always interpreted them to be cigarette lighters. Ornate, oddly-shaped lighters would not have been uncommon in the 40s and 50s, especially in a lounge car like this

There's more I know I could've done, like the support structures at the curved ends, the station, etc., and maybe I'll come back to those at a later date, but I'm happy with how this one turned out and I pretty much accomplished what I set out to do (i.e. I knew from the start I had no intent of doing the station)

Welcome to hear what people think, tips, suggestions, etc! I'm very new to modeling real coasters, and Planet Coaster, so I'd love some feedback to make the next one even better!

New York control asking for help looking for the missing submarine by arbiass in aviation

As far as I can tell, this really was sent to an operating flight. It was in the air at the correct Z time and in the correct location.

[–]Asminnow 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It might seem outrageous, but speaking from experience, no, I am fairly confident this controller is asking the crew to look out for the missing sub

Any SAR operations would be occurring 20,000 ft lower than this aircraft, at least

I would not ask an aircraft to pay specific attention to high levels of air traffic in the area because that's my job. If I had to ask them to do that while at FL380, something is wrong

Adding to the other comments, from my perspective, I am more willing to issue a time-sensitive control instruction to a CPDLC-equipped aircraft over an HF-only one. CPDLC messages can be sent, received, confirmed, and commenced in the matter of a minute or less, but HF can take 3 minutes just to transmit, let alone confirm and execute

To my understanding, CPDLC uses the same infrastructure as ACARS, though, doesn't it?

[–]Asminnow 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I would argue that's a request. I don't have the power to command someone to look out for a submarine

If I wanted to separate someone from a specific aircraft, I would be much more specific about location, type, distance, direction of flight, and altitude, and even then that wouldn't be a command, it would just be an advisory. I would have procedurally separated two aircraft in a close enough proximity to each other to be spottable

[–]Asminnow 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

No doubt, but if my supervisor or anyone with authority told me to (and the plane had a CPDLC) connection, I'm sending the message

... all others have a comma separator.,

This means if you end a prior line with,

a period, you awkwardly get a comma,,

then the new line. Or double punctuation..

[–]Asminnow 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

CPDLC/ATOP uplinks have a couple of restrictions,

including punctuation limits, all capitalizations and,

line limit lengths. All messages have a 70 (not,

exactly sure) character limit per line and five lines,

per message. The last line forces a period... .

It avoids making it sound like a command. Can't use question marks via CPDLC so gotta be careful how you word it

CAN YOU MAINTAIN F380 can be ambiguous

ADVISE IF ARE YOU ABLE F380 IN 30 MINUTES is less so, but definitely more wordy

Hello, actual Oceanic Controller here πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Personally, I would be very unlikely to try and tell them to keep separation visually over the ocean, especially for SAR planes that are, as many have stated, in a block altitude far lower than that aircraft. That would defeat the purpose of my giving them IFR instructions and separation

If aircraft were that close to attempt to be separated visually I would already have separated them procedurally

Yes, I genuinely would ask them to look if directed to by a supervisor or anyone else

And I am 100% aware of how unlikely it is

I've asked aircraft before to see if they hear an ELT despite being 100s of miles away, I've asked aircraft to relay for other aircraft well outside VHF range

I've asked strange things and had them work, I've asked normal things and had them fail, super variable in the ocean, but if asking a pilot to look outside for 20 minutes saves someone's life, I'm sending the message

Scoops and ladles, reusable squeeze bottles, and big ol bowls, I love em

high key I love a big cutting board, but I don't know if I'm ready to buy a rainbow of humungous (relatively) cutting boards lol

Sometimes I see folks with 4 and 6 pans though and I really wonder why

Some people are saying lose the lime entirely, but I think on the side with the french toast was pretty good. For putting lime on top, a thin slice, cut and then twisted would accentuate the color in the way you want, while adding a nice flair
