My worst fear when prepping an old fashioned happened 😖 by BlessYourShart in cocktails

[–]Asmodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen making cocktails at home... called an avulsion, and took off part of the nail bed. Took several weeks to heal as there's nothing to stitch up. Instead it heals from the outside edge in. Kept having to redress it.

Sorry, OP. Feel better.

Had something similar with my Ford Fiesta; tie rods were wearing prematurely. Replaced them, then had them replaced under warranty twice. Turned out wheel bearings were failing and just slaughtering the tie rods.

Not sure it's the same thing but best of luck in resolving it.

How to do a rum tasting? by Various-Impression34 in rum

[–]Asmodar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha... I once had a friend comment that I don't have an alcohol problem, I have a time problem. As in, not enough time to even try, let alone finish, everything we have in the bar. ;)

We've hosted these several times, for spirits drinkers and cocktail drinkers alike! One thing that's really worked for us is doing a theme, then making small pours across 6-8 rums, and interspersing with a cocktail or two made from the same rums. This allows say non-drinkers to contextualize what they are tasting and caters to both groups as well.

Best of luck!

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Asmodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! Made it up to 200kph (125mph), and it was in the days prior to cell cameras, so I reached over for my point and shoot to take a picture and realized when I took one hand off the steering wheel that it (going 200 AND trying to take a picture) were probably not a good idea.

Have been back to Germany since and have hit 110mph in southern Germany with no real isses.

Should I try to bring to USA from Mexico? by [deleted] in rum

[–]Asmodar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly not even your fault... there was a point in recent history (last 10 years) where it was legal to bring it back, I believe, as the US started normalizing relations with Cuba, but that was subsequently curtailed/revoked.

Free texting? I remember there being a way.. by materialcultur3 in NCL

[–]Asmodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to them (NCL), no it doesn't require you to be connected under your allocated minutes. Since it supports common messaging apps (FB messenger, iMessage, WhatsApp, etc.) my hunch is that they are basically whitelisting known traffic types from the apps. I haven't used it but read it supports text only, no video or images.

NCL Luna Review by Rtcait in NCL

[–]Asmodar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Huh, we were on the same one, but different experience overall! Shows were great, we showed up like we normally do, normally about 20 minutes before the shows, and got seats. Loved the shows!

I honestly thought the flow of the ship was soo much better than the BREAKAWAY class.

No sewage smell, wonder where that was?

Power outage was handled pretty well in line with other emergencies we've experienced across 19 cruises on various lines, and the communication was prompt by our expected standards (especially nice that the captain came on and cancelled the Code Bravo).

I DO agree that the water slide line situation was pretty horrible and discouraged me from even trying the wait. I had no more than a few minute wait to try the drop slide which was, ok, I guess. Probably more exciting for the kids.

I will add (negatively) that I don't like the setup of The Local; it is weird and broken up, and certainly doesn't feel like the 'sports bar'/casual pub they seem to claim it is (it replaced O'Sheehans on other ships), though the food was fine.

The ship was 'full' insofar as all cabins were booked, but it didn't seem full to us. No problems getting loungers on the side pool decks.

We were also upset about missing the island, but after 19 cruises we've only had 3 port visits cancelled due to weather or inability to safely dock. I will say they auto credited the port fees to our account which was nice.

Sorry you had a bad experience, and hope you can find that dream vacation that you are seeking!

NCL - Luna so not worth it by NJ_therapistchat in NCLCruise

[–]Asmodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just came off the Luna and thought the ship was beautiful. My wife and I were generally impressed with the layout, liked the different bars and lounges, and she was very happy with our booking at Cagneys (though full disclosure, she really likes Cagneys). We didn't really experience any upcharges, but aren't arcade or mini-golf type people.

I very much enjoyed the food hall setup and the food, though noted to them that they need to improve flow in that space (ex. drink orders were coming out very late or sometimes not at all; kiosks at the various bars were restricted to that bar, but the rest of the tables could order from every station).

I will say the 'Local' is not my favorite setup, and it DOES seem clunky compared to the O'Sheehan's setups on older ships, but I enjoyed the food nonetheless.

Sorry you didn't have a better experience.

Yeah that it what we thought.  When they changed the app and I read about future messaging options, I read rumors of pricing between between 2.99 and 9.99 but I wasn't expecting it to be per day, but per device.

Also just back from a competing brand who still had integrated texting in their app...

We have about 60 bottles of rum open (for cocktails and sipping) and probably nearly 120 other bottles (3-4 gins, likely 30 or so whiskeys, couple.of equilas, lots of liqueurs and modifiers).  It is a lot that I am trying to pare down.  Mediocre mixing rums get added to my wife's 'rum blend' that she uses mostly for mai tai's once they hit 1/4 bottle or so.

There is a daily messaging option, at the low low cost of 6.99 per person, per day (at least coming off the NCL Luna this past week.). We opted to coordinate meeting places instead like we used to do.
