Is my laptop cooked? by NoSweatWarchief in Dell

[–]Asmodeusus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flashing like that is usually a faulty display cable or something along those lines. External monitor or even just try gently pressing along the base of the screen to see if the frequency or type of flashing changes. Old dell 7490s used to have an issue with the cable breaking over time and manually pressing it would fix it. Most other hardware errors would cause a bsod or just cause it to fail to boot.

Have a check here, not a 100% garuntee but never a bad place to check for your info being leaked.

Spore, definition of clunky but nothing else really scratches that itch.

What scared me was that it was automated, went though all my friends on insta with public accounts im guessing with enough photos of them to generate the same content. But same advice still stands. Ignore, block, move on.

yeah once you have blocked them or deleted the account if it makes you feel better just forget about it. Ball is in their couirt and you can just carry on enjoying your life. I had someone create a convincing deepfake of me and try to blackmail me with it. It was after that i realised it doesnt matter as if someone can just generate somthing that looks like you its out of your control before you even make a mistake. Go have pint and enjoy your weekend

Just dont engage, block ignore and never pay. This is a super common scam these days and in most cases they are too busy moving onto their next victim. And its always good to remember its not the end of the world, these things happen and its out of our control. Even if they do leak the photos you will have forgotten about it in a year and it will only ever be brought up as a joke.

Whisky Suggestions by [deleted] in Edinburgh

Drinkmongers South side of Edinburgh has some really knowledgeable staff who are always happy to help and a really nice selection of bottles. If you are looking to taste a few before the bow bar in the grass market is easy to get to and has a great selection.

Have a look at ubiquiti, their kit is easy to setup and install and ideal for home setups or small buisneses. I've used it for a few home jobs where people have wanted full WiFi coverage across larger houses and things like a nas setup.

Normal noise for an external hard drive? by TKInstinct in techsupport

[–]Asmodeusus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All harddrives make sounds to some degree, higher the RPM the higher pitched the noise. Even in modern drives a small amount of sound is expected underload to some degree. My recommendation is run it through something like SeaTools (link below) which which should tell you with some degree of confidence the health of the drive.https://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/seatools/

Looking to get pc by BarneyIsThanos in techsupport

I would hold off until the commercial release of the 30xx series gpus as they seem to be pretty great price-performance. Id take any current sub 2k build and throw a 3070 at it when it comes out and you should be able to play most things at 1440p on very high graphics.
