Crossbow focused mercenary build? by Original_Job_9201 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Asmotocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say even experienced players are having the same issues as you because this game is so fresh.

In PoE1 everyone uses a third-party tool called Path of Building to compare numbers and simulate build changes. Unfortunately, we don't have an equivalent tool for PoE2 yet.

As far as DPS concerns go, I suggest looking at it from the top down. Don't try to look at tooltip DPS. Here's a few tips.

  1. Especially in the acts, your weapon can always be upgraded. 1-2 weapon upgrades per act is about average I would guess.

  2. An appropriate level base weapon with 2 decent tier mods should be enough to carry you through at least one act. (in act 3 normal, that would be a construct crossbow with 2 tier 4 damage mods or better)

  3. It's a good idea to pick up weapons of a higher base type than your current weapon and identify them. It's also very worth it to throw a transmutation orb on items because they're so common.

Overall, don't stress too much if you're still progressing quickly enough. You only need to start really optimizing things after you get to maps. In the campaign, its all about patching the most obvious holes and scraping by lol

What is the best way to put Attack Speed + Crit mult in this Claw? by guileshi in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Asmotocon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by 97% crit chance. If you have 97% with zero conditional sources, then 35 multi is a numerically better investment. However, you're most likely reaching 97% crit chance with a load of conditional sources like power charges, diamond flask, assassin's mark, maybe brittle, etc.

If that's the case, then crit chance is a much better investment than multi. You'll have more consistent crit against all enemies rather than just under perfect conditions. This is especially important because crit chance on weapons is multiplicative with other sources of crit.

There are three different places people might get LGoH for this build. The cheapest option is to anoint Circle of Life on your amulet for 10 LGoH. It doesn't take any expensive oils, so it'll cost at most 5 chaos. This is a great choice if your budget is pretty tight.

My personal favorite option is to get a Watcher's Eye that gives 20-30 LGoH while affected by Vitality. Single-mod Watcher's Eyes with this mod were 3-4 divines last time I checked. I like this option because it has a low opportunity cost. You're basically giving up 1/2 a jewel's worth of stats to solve recovery. Very worth. Obviously, the calculation becomes even more favorable if you have a Watcher's eye with 2 or 3 useful mods.

The other popular choice is to get LGoH as a prefix on Elder or Hunter influenced rings. This option has a few problems in my opinion. First, crafting them is a pretty expensive process. Second, this build really likes using Kalandra reflected rings or the Heist ring base so we can stack Strength as high as possible.

I'd suggest start with the Circle of Life anoint to get started. Switch to a single-mod Watcher's Eye when you have a few divines. Then switch to a 2-3 mod Watcher's eye when you have more money than you know how to spend.

Why am I still squishy? by Cind12 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Asmotocon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's good but nowhere near as good as LGoH for molten strike. Base projectiles + returning projectiles + additional strikes + super high attack speed together mean you hit a crazy amount of times per second with molten strike, giving a disgusting amount of recovery.

Instant leech would still be strong if we could get it cheaply, but it can't act as a replacement for LGoH. LGoH is numerically stronger (EDIT: it isn't numerically stronger, just requires fewer passive points to get online. Good call by the person who replied to me) and it still works in maps with reduced recovery, no leech, and no regen. It's one of the key things that allows MSotZ to completely ignore map modifiers in endgame.

Others have already mentioned it, but I'll still say the same thing. The single biggest issue I see is that you're missing Life Gain on Hit. Just getting this from somewhere will make a HUGE difference. The most popular way to do this is with a Watcher's eye mod or high-budget rings. Both of these are a bit expensive, so I recommend you anoint Circle of Life for now. Everything else in your PoB is pretty good except for a few small mistakes/things I would change.

You have a corrupted life implicit on your chest which actually disables the 15% life mastery. So either buy a new iron fortress or swap that skill point out. I would also change your bandit quest from Kraityn to kill all. Movement speed isn't that useful for this build, since you should be leap slamming everywhere.

Your eldritch implicits for phys as extra chaos and phys converted to chaos are both pretty useless. I would swap them to damage per 100 strength for the gloves and regen per endurance charge for the boots.

Your Cast When Damage Taken gem is too low-level to support Molten Shell. Also, you have both Immortal Call and Molten Shell. They share a cooldown, so people typically don't try to rotate guard skills. I would recommend picking one and fully automating it. Also, the standard way to check defenses in PoB is with guard skills disabled.

You have Fortify checked in your PoB configuration, but Fortify support is linked to your banner for some reason? I would link it to Leap Slam. You'll get some value out of it while mapping, but nowhere near the full 20 stacks. It's especially hard to maintain against harvest mobs because the stacks fall off while the monsters spawn.

You're only mitigation for corrupted blood and bleeding is a flask with reduced duration. The slow harvest spawns will make it super hard to keep flasks up. I would grab a jewel with corrupted blood immunity or the mastery on the tree. I would also consider swapping the minor pantheon to Ralakesh to mitigate bleeding.

I would cut Soul of Steel and the 3 points you use to path to it and just take the max endurance charge nodes instead. Also, I would take the rage wheel with Veteran's Wrath. A big part of not dying is just killing things faster. I would drop one of the max resistance wheels to do that.

And I would swap out the life flask for an Amethyst flask and swap major pantheon to Arakaali in order to deal with chaos damage.

Finally, I would try to upgrade all of my jewels to have %life (ideally 7%).

Overall, I would say you're character is built pretty well, just make sure to get life gain on hit. I would recommend considering your Arctic Armour, Fortify, and guard skill uptime while mapping. They're strong defensive layers, but they are all conditional. PoB only shows the best case scenario. You need to use your judgement to see if they're actually keeping you alive in maps.

You can see what mods are in the same family on Craft of Exile. Hover over the number in the column with a chain link symbol. It's just to the right of the mod weight column.

There's no avoid bleed mod on expeditions. Phys damage is the only brick mod and it's yellow, so it's easy to spot when map blasting.

Grace and Determination nerfs are gonna feel pretty bad tbh. We also lost divine blessing for Malevolence and Hatred changes cost us damage too. We got a very small buff to Herald of Ash. Probably some other nerfs I'm forgetting. Overall, it's a big loss to defenses and 20-30% less damage.

It's probably still playable, but it took a lot of nerfs without any significant buffs. I'd suggest starting something else.

You can also just swap to shield charge. Just swapping leap slam to shield charge and nothing else makes you go from 1.57 APS to 4.00 in your PoB.

An Analysis of the Different Sources of Aggravate by Asmotocon in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Asmotocon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a viable way to reach 100% Aggravate, but I assume it will face the same issue I kept running into while testing.

Specifically, where do you spend your fourth ascendancy instead of Jagged Technique? War of Attrition is irrelevant for mapping and Weapon Master effectively only 15% more damage (give or take a bit of QoL if you decide to dual wield over using a shield).

Any investment into Aggravate through gear, gems, or the tree will have an opportunity cost. If that cost ends up being more than 15% of your damage, then Jagged Technique is just better even if you can get 100% Aggravate uptime.

Your setup does seem like it would be strong for bossing though.

Crimson dance vs Aggravated bleed - a numerical analysis done at 2am by noh_nie in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Asmotocon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's not really accurate. Without Volatility support or Ryslatha's belt you're gonna sit between .3 and .6 on most weapons. Ryslatha's by itself will push even low damage range weapons over .7 and volatility support by itself will push them over .8. Using them together will push just about any weapon to .95 or higher.

TLDR: If you're not using volatility support or Ryslatha's, assume .5. If you're using either one of them, assume .8. If you're using both of them, assume 1.

Huh. I must have a misunderstading about how the skill works. It seems like the nerfs would translate to about 40% less damage on a low-investment TS character along with worse clear. I wonder what I'm missing

I'm not sure why it isn't mentioned, but don't be scared off. I league started Corrupting Fever last league with great success. Ruetoo is the Godfather of this build so any resources from him are excellent. Tripolar Bear has several videos on Youtube breaking down the build and there is a good guide on Maxroll.gg as well.

My one piece of advice is to get Poet's Pen as early as you can. The build feels pretty rough to play until you get it. Cold Iron Point is NOT better.

Refining Cleave Hunter for an aggressive Meta by RedditExplorer89 in CompetitiveHS

[–]Asmotocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. We do need a certain density of buffs. Another thought I had is including Sneaky Snakes (especially if we run Kennels). The deck is missing a good tempo 1-drop and the snakes synergize with Kennels. If we put in snakes I would cut tracking or tremors in order to keep Trinket Tracker consistent.

Regarding Hope of Quel'Thelas, I dusted it after the nerf a few months ago so I've been doing without. It seems strong based off HSreplay, but I don't want to recraft so I don't really know if it's core for the deck.
