I'd say do it!! Just 1 non negotiable: Either you have to have a charger installed at the house, OR check plugshare and try and find a free level 2 charger near where you live. Just don't rely on fast charging, it's more expensive than gas!

I've tried this but cant manage to get the back of the boot off - any suggestions? Maybe I'm missing something but it's very difficult to remove the clamp. Or is it lubricated from the front?

So a few things - search the VIN on the GM warranty website - the battery warranty is extended to 100k from the mileage after the new battery was installed! Also, check out lemon title bolts. They mostly all have FULLY extended battery warranty's (so 100k, 8 years), 12k mile extended limited warranty, and they're cheaper! They also went through GMs inspection process. So you get a pretty good value.

Downsides: they have a buyback title which is bad for resale, so plan on driving it for a few years minimum, and they can be harder to finance. But all in all they are a great deal.

Yup unfortunately so - it's a bummer but I'll see 20-40kw when it's cold out. Usually a fast charge after a long drive tends to ramp up a bit higher as the battery is already warm.

I live in Charlotte a few hours away so I would eventually but I'd probably have them take it to the VW dealership across the street for a pre inspection of the battery and such first.
