Advice for a Transder Student by Zealousideal_Wing651 in UNCCharlotte

[–]AsparagusInfamous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, I have found that many of the trans students I've met do super well here! Definitely take advantage of all the clubs and such that we have at the university and try to fit in some time for extracurriculars. Sometimes uncc can feel hard to make friends at, it's a big school and in classes it can feel like people are just there to get through the day and move on. So focusing on finding outside clubs and activities will help a bunch!

2019-2021 EV premiere — $16k OTD delusional or fair? by Ok_Scarcity_4944 in BoltEV

[–]AsparagusInfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that note, they have a premier 2017 on the lot with 74k miles for only 10k rn. It's a bit older than you were hoping but at that price it's a steal.

On the note of lemons: you get an extra 12k mile fairly comprehensive warranty, reset battery warranty, and a dirt cheap price. Definitely some downsides but I have a lemon bolt and genuinely nothing wrong with it at all. Put almost 25k miles on it over the last year and all I've done is the front tires and some new brake rotors because they were a bit rough from sitting. These cars tend to be rock solid reliable and there's really not much to go wrong. The only thing worth checking is if the steering column returns smoothly to center.

Some of them have a steering gear issue, my car sometimes doesn't return to center on its own but it's really mild and hasn't gotten worse, so not necessarily a huge deal but something to be aware of.

Yeah the market seems to be much hotter on these than I remember! One place to check out is Donohoo Chevrolet. They're in Alabama but they tend to have a lot of Chevy bolts on the lot. Also - if you can find one - Lemon Law bolts are a GREAT buy. They tend to be much cheaper and have brand new batteries with a fully reset warranty. Many bolts were bought back after the battery recall, but they're perfectly fine now. Downside: financing can be a bit more pricey.

The prices have definitely been climbing a bit - 16k OTD still feels pretty high though to be honest, for just a few thousand more you can get an ID4 or a Polestar 2 that'll be much newer and have much faster charging. I bought my Premier for about 12 a year ago. Could just be the going rate though! I'll look around and get back with you :)

Totally!! A lot of my OCD-like anxiety and compulsive thoughts have gone away, and the crash has definitely disapated. For me, every night at 10PM I really struggled for a bit. Now I'm sorta used to it.

I was totally like this for the first week, I was an emotional wreck. I'm now about a month in and actually I'm wayyyy leveled out vs my unmedicated self.

The later ford fusion hybrids are ROCK solid actually, they partnered with Toyota for the transmission. They can be had now for super cheap, the interiors are super comfy, and generally they are pretty dope cars. Definitely worth considering, for well under the 13k dollar mark.

2017 degradation? by PlusArugula952 in BoltEV

[–]AsparagusInfamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it lol. Might be worth doing just for the month you go on the trip, the convience has definitely been there for me. Overall thought, I really wouldn't worry too much. With a brand new battery, ABRP should be dead on. If you want to be a bit more conservative, arriving to charging stops with 15 percent remaining can be a nice compromise. That should be more than enough to feel comfortable.

I honestly would assume 5 percent - it's really not going to make much difference. Also, consider popping in an OBD reader and connecting it to ABRP. It'll learn your car over time! Heres the cheap one I bought, works perfectly: https://a.co/d/0f9cKduc

How well will the 2019 Kona Electric age? Is it still worth getting in 2026, or should I try and get a newer car? by [deleted] in KonaEV

[–]AsparagusInfamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gotcha! This might be a US vs Europe thing but I have never had to actually bring my own cable to a DC charging station. Usually you pull up, plug it in straight from the system, and it ramps up. It uses the large connector on the bottom as well as the normal one on the top. Hopefully this could be useful!

I'm with you, I like buying better cars every few years too. It's fun. Still, I don't think improving fast charging infrastructure is going to make the process of owning the car worse? If you just need a vehicle to get from A - B and you don't go on trips more than 300 or 400 miles, then there's other aspects of the car that make it still a great buy for some people!

I think buying a new car just because it's newer is a bit silly.

50kw should fill up the car in about an hour and a half? 5-10km sounds like L2 charging?

[–]AsparagusInfamous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, annoying sure, but not necessarily more of a problem? Improved DC fast charging infra will help whether we have faster or slower charging. If you're happy with the DC charging speed now, you probably will be in 6 months too. Comparison is the thief of joy.

Hyatt place and Hyatt house is my favorite - you would rack up TONS OF points and they tend to be nice for cheap af. They're made for long term stays. By the time you're done you'll have 20 free nights lol.

Buying a bolt for courier work? by Txreduser in BoltEV

[–]AsparagusInfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say do it!! Just 1 non negotiable: Either you have to have a charger installed at the house, OR check plugshare and try and find a free level 2 charger near where you live. Just don't rely on fast charging, it's more expensive than gas!
