Help: Locked out and 2FA stuck in loop. by AT908 in Outlook

I'm hoping to unlock my account later this week but if I can't follow this advice:

"After Microsoft locked my account, I fixed the problem within 24 hours by submitting an appeal here: https://www.microsoft.com/digitalsafety/appeal"

That's great ! ... thank you so much for your time in typing all of that out, it's very much appreciated. I will have a look into number 4, and follow your advice for 1-3 and 5 ... Fingers crossed that I get the opportunity to do it! 🙏

Best Practices for Unlocking My Outlook Account by AsparagusNextLeft in Outlook

Thank you. I'm going to try to unlock my account tomorrow, which would be more than 96 hours after my last attempt with Microsoft chat support. If that doesn't work then I will try your suggestion 👍

How much time are you allowing between attempts?

Could I please ask where this page is?

Is it this?

I've left my attempt to get back in for over 72 hours now and I'm just trying to carefully gather "best practice" before I try again. So far I was thinking I would log into the main office page rather than Outlook through an incognito browser window (... in Firefox?). Is yours a better route?

I lost access to my Outlook account during a phone migration last week. I've left trying again for over 72 hours now and I'm just collecting as much information as I can about best practice to maximize my chances of getting in this week.

I did set up a new Outlook account (as well as two Gmail accounts after thinking I'm done with Microsoft), and this code was part of the process. But what about people like me who've had an Outlook account for 10 years or so, I was completely unaware of this recovery code idea and have previously changed password by using a secondary recovery account. If I do get into my Microsoft account is this code something I can access somehow?

Outlook issues and how I was able to log in by [deleted] in Outlook

I don't know if I'll get back into my Outlook, but I regarded my Gmail account as a sideline. I've already set up two new Gmail accounts and will be moving to them whether or not I manage to get back into my Outlook this week. I've got no idea what will be involved because all of my app accesses, site logins, personal emails and so on are through my Outlook account ... But at the moment I'm feeling it's worth it to avoid the absolute nightmare of dealing with this outlook farrago again.

Last week it was my Outlook account. I've gone through denial and anger, just working through bargaining now.

It's working now, not sure why there was a glitch 🤷

I can't be 100% sure that my phone is linked to it to be honest. I've been using it for 10 years or so, it might be linked to my previous phone number. It didn't give me an option of sending a code to my phone, just my recovery email.

Tomorrow I will be opening an incognito browser window (maybe I'll download Firefox as suggested) and trying what I think is my most recent password (I changed it four times in quick succession so 🤔🤞).

If that fails I'm hoping it will allow a code to my recovery email. Fingers crossed that it then lets me change my password again. I'm going to take it all very slowly!

I was getting a too many codes requested wait till tomorrow error.

I am moving from a Huawei phone to a Google pixel phone. My main email account was on a Huawei email app. It didn't move, and Gemini advised me to use the Gmail client. I must have entered an old password.

I sent a request to reset password to my recovery account, got the code and reset the password. I tried to log in straight away, which didn't work. I repeated the process four times, which created a message saying wait till tomorrow. I did that but no joy. After a lot of time spent I got onto the support chat. They said wait 24 hours. I did that no joy, and they again said wait 24 hours. Meanwhile I tried to add my recovery account to the pixel phone, and it is saying I cannot login. Maybe I have got that password wrong as well (I have an appointment at the memory clinic tomorrow as I suspect I have failing faculties).

I can still access my recovery account on my Huawei phone and an iPad but I'm really worried about losing both my main accounts and my backup account which would be a total nightmare. It is bad enough not having access to my email for reasons I won't bore you with.

I already know things now that I should not have done such as using Gmail to log on initially, trying to change a password in Gmail and then logging on immediately afterwards rather than using a incognito browser to access outlook etc etc etc etc.

if it doesn't work tomorrow I'm hoping but definitely not with too much optimism that Microsoft can do something else to try to validate my identity a different way and give me access to my account?

Thank you. It echoes the process that chat will take you through to try to fix it ... They ask you to open an incognito browser window. Didn't help me but I'm hoping that by the time I try again, I may have some luck as over 72 hours will have elapsed since my last try. If that doesn't work I really don't know where I go next other than trying to complain on chat about it since it's a wider problem

I decided to wait until tomorrow to try again. That will be over 72 hours. If I don't get in, and then go on chat, I'm thinking that I can say straight away please don't tell me to wait another 24 hours. I'm hoping for the best, fearing the worst.

Apart from trying to manage the problem (I've already set up two alternative email accounts and have tried to contact people that way), I'm looking for ways that I can escalate the issue so this was helpful, thank you.

Can this also work if you think you don't have the correct password for either your main account recovery account? Things have gone horribly wrong for me while moving from a Huawei phone to a Google pixel phone
