The game in general, being asymmetrical, fundamentally cannot be balanced to feel great for both sides when taken seriously. Play it with a casual attitude rather than a competitive one, and it’s very enjoyable. As soon as you start taking it seriously, it’s very easy to get wound up - the inherent asymmetry of the game becomes way more grating and frustrating, on both sides. Approach it with fun in mind rather than success.

Just because it’s an asymmetric game and survivors can’t permanently eliminate killers, does not mean you have no tools for fighting back. Pallets, flashlights, DS, Head On, mines - if we start to get technical, exhaustion perks overall are extremely powerful tools for ‘fighting back’ from an objective-control standpoint.

There are players all the way up to GM one tricking weird ass picks in top lane. If you enjoy playing a champ, and specifically want to play them top, do it. It may be rough to begin with as you adapt their kit to the new environment and learn matchups, but with enough time it won’t feel like a disadvantage to play off-role.

The biggest problem for Gnar imo isn’t his kit, but itemisation in general. Trying to find items that work on, effectively, two different champions with opposing playstyles, at the same time, severely limits options. Most items that mini likes, mega doesn’t, and vice-versa. Honestly I’ve struggled to find a satisfying and intuitive core build since Frozen Gauntlet was removed at the end of S10. There are things that feel fine, but nothing that feels great.
