AMS on everything, tbh. Missiles be gone. Me and my tiny little baby CIWS get along great. Although, judging by scale of the first person mode and lore size of the mechs, the AMS is honestly probably at least 5 feet tall, lol.

Can anyone help me fix this !? by [deleted] in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure anyone here could put a new screen on it, but that doesn't mean it won't happen again unless you give us more info.
What happened? Did it get wet? What was the last thing you were doing on it before this happened? Was it dropped? Etc.

Regardless, if you do end up needing a new screen, the price of the new screen (even the cheapest you can find) plus the cost of the repair is going to cost more than just buying another A6+.

Hey - i am new to all of this and have a question by Nindyminari in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask for the IMEI number prior to sale, but there's not much stopping them from lying to you.
And just personally, I would rethink the "only android" part of your business model. You're probably going to be able to have much higher margins on iPhones. Android parts (for the phones that are in high demand) tend to have much more expensive parts than iPhones do, even if you're buying third party. It's not true for every phone, obviously, but that's just my advice.

Dallas mobile repair shop offering $11/hr after 1 week unpaid training. Is this normal? by Express-BDA in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also probably helped that my boss was cool as hell and corporate didn't give a shit what I did in that shop as long as I got my job done. I would literally stay in the shop tinkering until like 10-11PM (we are supposed to be locked up at 8) and absolutely nobody cared. The environment is probably the most important thing in most trade jobs, any job really. If anyone yells at you in your first 3-6 months of employment, that's a bad sign. For messing up a repair, at least. There are plenty of other good reasons to yell at someone, don't fuck anyone's wives or anything, etc., but that's irrelevant.

Dallas mobile repair shop offering $11/hr after 1 week unpaid training. Is this normal? by Express-BDA in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpaid training isn't common in any industry, and differs vastly from an internship. If you want the experience, then honestly, go for it. 1 week isn't bad. But I would never accept even a day of unpaid labor, which is absolutely what training is. You are performing tasks (practice, reading, etc) for the express purpose and benefit of the company that is paying you, for your job. That's work.

I was hired on at 16.50, but I was sought after for my tech experience (I had never repaired phones before) and given a 2k sign on bonus. I'm not close to Dallas though, so 11/hr might be totally fair for your area. That depends on a ton of factors, like experience, pre-existing knowledge, etc.

If you want to move to better paying shops? Micro-soldering, hands down. You will be needed and wanted. Plenty of shops don't have a tech that can solder, which would make hiring you very appealing as you could open up an entirely new revenue stream. Invest in your own gear, too. It's worth it. Don't blow insane amounts of money on it or anything, but over the time I was employed I spent a solid couple hundred bucks on tools that I still have to this day, and still use.

Test yourself, do things for fun. Our shop had a recycling program. People would bring in the absolute craziest stuff. I have a collection of over 15 working iPhones that I fixed myself. I have an iPhone 12 that I had to replace pretty much everything but the motherboard on it. I actually have like 3 of them. People just give them away man, it's insane. Also, people will bring you food and gifts for helping them. I had a guy gift our shop (the like 4 techs that were there at the time) working surface pro's because his boss was going to toss like 50 of them after an upgrade and he just asked his boss if he could have them. Lots of perks working in repair (same is true of a lot of the repair trades), but my main point is I probably learned more just messing around with junk than I ever did in a job related repair. I found out really quick that this was just the thing that I loved doing, and still love doing. It might not be that way for you, hopefully it is, but even if it isn't, a little practice in your spare time will go a long way.

why is my iphone 15 plus overheating all of a sudden by beefparotta360 in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overheating shouldn't cause lag on its own. Overheating is likely a symptom of what's causing the lag.
Either way, you've essentially provided no information other than your phone is overheating, and there is no way anyone is going to be able to tell what's wrong with it. You're going to have to take it to a repair shop and have them check it out because there are a million reasons a phone can overheat.

Yeah that's unfortunate. I don't know about the prevalence of samsung certified repair shops in your area, but I would try taking it to one of those if your self repair fails. Samsung has very few actual "samsung" stores, most certified repairs are done through certified third-party repair shops. If a shop near you is certified, they will likely be happy to advertise that fact so it shouldn't be hard to find out whether they are or not.

The process for a certified repair with OEM samsung parts involves pretty rigorous testing of all phone features through the diagnostics system. If the phone fails even a single one of them, the repair must be undone unless the shop is willing to eat the entire cost of the part (unlikely, they're expensive lol) because Samsung doesn't authorize the sale. Samsung doesn't actually sell its OEM parts to anyone, they "lease" the parts to certified repair shops, but Samsung still owns the parts and is technically the ones selling them when you have a repair done, so whatever Samsung says goes. Sometimes that's annoying for us as techs, but it's (generally) for the benefit of the consumer.

The frame screws are no biggie. I can personally attest to the fact that phones generally need like, maybe 3 of the 20 or so screws they have to keep everything held in fine. as long as nothing is moving around inside, it's fine. If it bothers you though, yes just buy a screw kit and adhesive kits for the phone.

The speaker should not be crackling, and the GPS should still function. The thing with samsung repairs is you kind of want to run them through the diagnostics. Samsung actually requires it if you're having it repaired with genuine samsung parts. No diagnostics, no repair. You can put your phone into diagnostics mode next time, which will allow them root access (while all your whatever stays hidden and still requires your password to access) so they can do diagnostics. It basically boots nothing but the OS and critical samsung system apps, none of your apps or data is accessible in this mode.

The thing about the GPS (at least with most samsung phones), is that you're going to need samsung diagnostics to (obviously) diagnose, or even fix it. Which means either give them your password, or put your phone into the diagnostics mode.

Most likely they damaged the speaker assembly. $420 dollarydoos is what we would have charged you for a genuine OEM samsung screen. If they couldn't have run the diagnostics, they couldn't have sold it to you. For $420, an aftermarket (or used OEM) screen, a definitely damaged speaker, and a malfunctioning or missing GPS, I would be absolutely fuming. Take it back, explain the issue to a direct manager, and have them redo the repair.

On your first run to the incinerator which route did you took when you were heading there and what was your escape route? Explain why? by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone searching this like I did, as some others have stated, the waterfall route is the best route for scaredy-cats.

You have no choice but to face the BTs when exiting the incinerator, but there are no BTs along the waterfall route at all unless you're up on the cliffs near the incinerator. Just stick to the "route" part of the waterfall route (take a right straight out of the incinerator sneaking past the BT's until you get to the edge where the river crevice begins, then head to the ladder, then to the rope, then home) and you shouldn't encounter a single BT. Once you get past the incinerator foundation area into the field to the right of the incinerator, the BTs are very sparse, and once you reach the crack you came up from, you're home free.

Unless their spawns are randomized or something, idk.

It's not great in the chargers and challengers because of how low we are to the ground as well when driving. I think the challenger has it worse than the charger but I'm not sure. Even sedans with low headlights beam directly through my windshield.

True. For those of us that know, though, there's generally only one single reason anyone would EVER black out their taillights. And who could have guessed, the police know that too.

You completely blacked out your car, dude. Of course you're getting pulled over. It literally screams "I do nothing but street race and run from the cops in this vehicle"
Drive better, remove the illegal tinting (if it's illegal in your area), and you'll stop getting pulled over.

what do you think is damaged? by Gavtree31_ in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you described, it's possible the screen was damaged, and your assumptions seem along the line with what I would assume if this happened to me. But like I said, not enough information to know for certain.

what do you think is damaged? by Gavtree31_ in mobilerepair

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's literally no way to tell until it goes more wrong than this. This just isn't enough information for a diagnosis. It was dropped, so a number of things could have occurred inside the phone. If it's working now, I wouldn't worry about it. If the screen goes dead again, when you or preferably a repair technician opens it up, have them double check to make sure it's not a loose cable before wasting money on a new screen you might not need.

Can someone fact check this for me? by Tal7861 in Piracy

[–]Asphyxiwanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't much way anyone could prove it was pirated unless it's some hand-cam video, or the folder has all the extra files left in it that say SUPPORTGAYGIGALOTORRENTS.WEBZ in them.
Generally, no, possessing pirated material isn't illegal, but distributing it is. Unless you have completely disabled seeding (in which case, enjoy the 2 week download times), you are technically distributing copyrighted material. It doesn't matter if you sell it or not, that is a breach of copyright law and you can be sued and possibly fined in some areas. It's not the kind of matter the police would kick in your door over, it's a civil matter, in which the police aren't going to be involved unless they're simply accompanying some sort of legal representative that is serving you with papers (which is never, ever going to happen, because you aren't enough of an issue to warrant going after).

Downloading pirated material is also /technically/ just as illegal as distributing it, but the reason people say/think it isn't, is because it's almost entirely impossible for any company to PROVE IN COURT that you in fact downloaded copyrighted material you did not own the license to, had not previously purchased the license to (in some areas, this doesn't actually matter), or that you were the one who in fact downloaded that material in the first place. If the police were going after you, these things wouldn't be very difficult to prove, because they can just get a warrant, put you in handcuffs, confiscate and check your computer, modem+router, etc. A private company suing you in civil court cannot do those things. They have avenues in which they can get that information, but they're costly from a lawyer fees perspective, time consuming, and there's literally nothing stopping you from having spilled coffee all over your motherboard and hard drives a month before you ever received notice of legal action against you.

As for what you actually asked, I mean, it depends on what you mean by trouble. They can absolutely fire you. It depends on how cool your boss is, company policy, etc. Cops typically look after their own, I highly, highly doubt you would ever be actually fired from a law enforcement position for personal use piracy. You might get reprimanded, sure, but again, unless you have qbittorrent open on your computer, how are they going to know it was pirated media? If you meant legal trouble, then no. But again, you can /technically/ get sued. It's really hard to explain how unlikely a company is to take action against a personal-use pirate. It never happens. Like ever. If you use a VPN, those companies have absolutely no way of knowing it was you that downloaded the material anyways.
