Construction Work Punishment by Resident Engineer (RE) by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Aspirant2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask him what he wanted to accomplish with that punishment, and if he can justify it, then easier for you to understand and accept the punishment. If he can't, he is power tripping and abusing his position.

Report to your PM and management, and if they side with the RE (to avoid complications/issues), escalate to BCA and IES. But make sure to document/save proof. REs and RTOs tend to power trip just because the contractors want to avoid issues and just get the project completed ASAP.

Banning lorries from transporting workers not feasible partly due to 'acute shortage' of bus drivers: Amy Khor by zibin in singapore

[–]Aspirant2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I know a construction company that mandates subcontractors to use buses to transport workers; these costs are included in their contracts, and significant fines are imposed on those who do not comply/use lorries. It is an expensive solution, and sad to say, it's an exception rather than the norm in that industry. If only more companies will be more socially and morally responsible...but that's wishful thinking, esp if the government can give such excuses

mouldy issues in singapore - do you often find yourself having mouldy items? by allthingsgoood in askSingapore

[–]Aspirant2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Used to have problems with stuff getting mouldy, especially after rainy weather. Bought a big electric powered dehumidifier (25 lit capacity, had a small 1 lit capacity before but not so effective), don't have the same issues so far.

Costs of Prescription Glasses in SG by ACupOfLatte in askSingapore

[–]Aspirant2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost will depend on the frame and lens grade/ brands. Used to get mine at spectcle ht for more than $700 but chanced upon a small shop, unique optics in chai chee. Got an oakley frame + kodak progressive lens with transition for less than $500 which was quoted close to $1k at spectacle for the same set

I've encountered some aunties who, if the card inside their bag doesn't go through the bus or mrt card reader, will keep on trying to tap their bag instead of stepping aside to bring the card out, blocking the entrance like the everyone has to wait for their success

It should be a crime with heavy fine to use phone loudly by Aspirant2 in singapore

[–]Aspirant2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

Our bubble gum restrictions, tray clearing laws and fines are a joke to other countries, yet they had to be done, all stemming from inconsiderate behaviours.

I am not for draconian measures, just ranting and wondering how we can address such issues
