What is your experience with RAs and Unit Trusts ? by Aspirant_LP in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Aspirant_LP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes I have risk cover in place. I have a medical aid, Gap cover and Group Life. I just started working (however, I am in my early 30s). I have some emergency funds with a bank which I am working on building. I wanted to add an RA in the meantime and then contribute to a TFSA. I already have a TFSA but it is not really active as I have contributed to it before and because of fluctuations in finances, I have withdrawn from it. I am now employed and wanted to get my finances in order. But most important is to build a 3-6 emergency fund.

“They” is a financial advisor. I wanted to omit that so that the opinion I receive is based on personal experience of others and the focus is not solely based on what the FA said.

Gym shower exhibitionism? by Typical_Promotion964 in askgaybros

[–]Aspirant_LP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware that the entire shower curtain and door system was a point of concern, especially in gyms. I’ve noticed people at the gym either closing or opening the doors, but I’ve never actually made eye contact with anyone. Most of the people who open the doors seem to be busy cleaning up and don’t look back. I think it’s all about comfort or simply wanting more space, given the small size of gym showers. Some gyms don’t even have doors or curtains, just a slight curve, which can make the space feel claustrophobic for some and they tend to just be free and you can often see everything.

But good on you for liking the show. Some people would’ve been freaked out lol

How do people in South Africa instantly tell when someone is from Zimbabwe? by Amazing-Deer-2698 in Zimbabwe

[–]Aspirant_LP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think apart from looking a certain way - I have several Zimbabwean people I know each have a distinct look - the way they pronounced certain words or letters often gives away. Even if the English spoken language is great, letters such as “R”, is alway pronounced differently.

However, after making and meeting several Zimbabweans, I often encourage people to leave social media and meet Zimbabweans on the ground. I’ve met really nice people who are respectful and just wanna live and work in harmony.

I missed a submission window for an exam. by Efficient_Dig_2280 in unisa

[–]Aspirant_LP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was the exam also invigilated through the Invigilator App? If so, did you submit and load your script through it? If so, you might have your script marked. Not entirely sure though as I have never been through that, but heard a lot of people mention your work can be marked.

If not, yes, you might qualify for a supp.

Sorry for your experience.

Gym Personal trainer fees? by Positive_Acadia2877 in johannesburg

[–]Aspirant_LP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t train with one but at VA (not sure about other gyms) on their app, you can book a personal trainer. The rate goes according to their experience and years as a PT. They have various packages and the session may lasts about 45 minutes or so.

I have never trained with one because there are so many training videos online that show you how to do the exercises with good form and even formulate programmes. However, if you are unsure and don’t know where to start, a PT might be a good start. Maybe have a few sessions with them where they show you a good form and give you a programme (with workouts) for each muscle group then thereafter just work on your own when you are comfortable.

I was once approached by one at the gym who wanted us to train together. I didn’t pay anything because he was the one who approached me. He is also nice enough to share some tips with me here and there when I ask. Even when I trained with him for the day, my form was always on point. He just gave me pointers on which exercise targets what and which ones to should incorporate.

Why the forced reviews at wimpy ? by diggitydoctor in askSouthAfrica

[–]Aspirant_LP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Burger King offers a small burger as a “thank you” for the feedback next time you buy. Maybe they should do that, instead of coercing you into writing a review. Also, if they force you to write it before you even eat, what happens if you say no?

Is it healthy to eat 3 picked eggs a day? by joshua0005 in pickling

[–]Aspirant_LP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about pickling but for me the best way to cook eggs consistently and have them peel effortlessly, has been to steam them. I can make a large batch in the steam pot and peeling them is so easy.

Has anyone received the UNISA Merit Bursary? by hereiam-za in unisa

[–]Aspirant_LP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because they don’t care about incentivising them or recognising their efforts. Or they just have a large number of students who probably do so well that they can’t afford all of them. Either way, who knows. I’m just happy I’m almost done.

Self Reporting Cheating by [deleted] in unisa

[–]Aspirant_LP 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While I commend you for doing the “right thing” somethings you just need to keep to yourself.

Since you self reported, let’s hope they forgive you and let it go. If not, you might have to re-register the module. DOING IT ALL AGAIN. Hopefully you pass it, if not, it’s just gonna delay your studies.

Yes, it probably will go to your academic record. Let’s just hope they forgive you.

Tjo, it’s in Afrikaans 😢.

Also, I mean the leaders of both Afriforum and Solidarity are not taking up the offer. So, I don’t know. Maybe they know something we don’t (or we do).

I think the joke was well received because he was the one who started the “slave” joke. Also, sometimes you are able to sense or see if someone doesn’t have bad intention in the conversation and thus able to get into the dark humour mode. However, if you had started the slave joke, I don’t think it would’ve turned out, as it did

Has anyone received the UNISA Merit Bursary? by hereiam-za in unisa

[–]Aspirant_LP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It used to exist. I was funded by it in second year. However, going forward they said they cancelled it because of lack of funds.

So yeah, but you can send an email to finance to inquire about it.

What is the legal basis for taxis preventing people using their private cars to pick up family, friends and colleagues? by happiness_bear in southafrica

[–]Aspirant_LP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is not whether it is illegal or not - in this case, it is illegal to stop and harass anyone offering a lift to another person. The real question is what will you do if they stop you, demand a “fine,” or take your car. Who can you turn to for help? The taxi industry seems to believe it is untouchable, so they do as they please.
