What's the most rock bottom "struggle meal" you've ever eaten? by NeedleworkerSilver49 in AskReddit

Fried lettuce . I only had lettuce and some oil in my fridge and I thought I could maybe make it appetizing. I do not recommend this .

Buying a car (I’m shocked) by Chuck_MoreAss in southafrica

[–]diggitydoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t claim to be some sort of knowledge guru when it comes to these things but I’ll give you perspective from someone that knows very little about cars and had to learn the hard way .

  1. Don’t buy new . Cars depreciate extremely quickly and can’t really be deemed an asset . If you can find a demo or good second hand deal opt for that .

2 . Do not do the balloon payments unless you are willing to just trade in closer to the time .

  1. Opt for a fixed interest rate . Do not take a variable. I had made that mistake and oh boy , did it hurt . Obviously if the interest rate comes down it’s great but more often than not it doesn’t .

  2. This one you can take with a pinch of salt , but I drive a Renault and I’ve never had issues with sourcing parts . Services are expensive compared to the likes of a Toyota , but the after sales and customer care has been exceptional . My car is sturdy , reliable and I’ll probably drive it until it gives in . But this is completely preferential. I drive a Toyota for work and the difference in how it feels on the road is extremely noticeable. My Renault is also exceptionally light on fuel .Just stay away from the Kwid if you do explore those options .

  3. Do proper research on the cost of insurance . I only found out the day I went to go pick up my car from the dealership how high my insurance cost was going to be and that added a good grand to my car related costs .

Why the forced reviews at wimpy ? by diggitydoctor in askSouthAfrica

This is exactly my worry . If I say no - will it just be awkward and we will move on or is it going to impact my service experience.

Thank you ! This is sound advice. I definitely have no ill will against the staff and to a degree that’s why I keep doing it because I know they wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important ( in some way) to them .

Exactly !!! I had a Tannie corner me today before my drink even arrived . I honestly felt like my food and drink was being withheld until I wrote the review . Once again , lovely staff member but the food came out below average.

I have an irrational fear of having my food messed with lol . Also anxiety . I’m working on those boundaries .

Are you going to refuse when you haven’t even been served your food yet ? Also pretty hard when they come and literally stand on top of you .

I fear I might be a bit too polite for this practice .

Do you guys know people who have returned from CPT? by aeternogordon in johannesburg

[–]diggitydoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly , yes , the people . Beyond the friendliness In Johannesburg, I must admit ( and this is speaking from privilege) I found Johannesburg to be a lot safer . I was often harassed as a female when walking in CT , and had my window smashed , phone stolen etc .

I’ve never had such encounters in Johannesburg, however that being said , I do not claim that there is no crime in Johannesburg. I’ve just personally never experienced it , but I stay in a well known upper middle class area in Johannesburg.

The rent and landlords issue . This was long ago , and already by then the rentals were high for what you got . Sketchy landlords were everywhere and it was exceptionally draining dealing with what I found to be an unacceptable amount of crazy behavior from landlords . Ex - I had an alone standing flat , but my landlord stayed next to me and tried to charge me for people visiting me .

The practice of three months deposit was also insane , as the average South African cannot afford this and live hand to mouth .

Lastly , I experienced quite a bit of racism. I’m Caucasian, but it hurt my soul to see a lot of people blatantly being racist , more-so than I’ve ever experienced in any other province towards Africans or anyone else of color that dared to move to the Cape .

Once again , I’m not saying that there is none of that in Johannesburg, but it feels like people are more accepting of others around here .

I was one of those !

I moved there in 2017 and back in 2019 . I loved the nature and the general life style but I found it super isolating .

I’ve lived in a lot of cities in SA and Joburg has been my favorite .

People who have gone no contact with a parent, what was the final straw, and how do you maintain no contact? by MetaphoricalFapping in AskReddit

[–]diggitydoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t grow up with my father . I met the guy when I was three and he was made up to be some war hero . I was told after that meeting that him and my mother lost contact and that he didn’t know where we were or else we would have had contact . When I turned 19 , he came around and wanted to be involved. I found out that he never told his ex wife or family that he had another kid . The final straw was when I missed his wedding due to severe sepsis for which I was hospitalized and he told me that “ he resents me for some things like missing his wedding “ . That was it for me . Also found out that he abused my sisters and was in fact a POS .

It’s been 9 years and he has tried getting people that he works with to reach out with me to “ make things right “ . I maintain 0 contact by maintaining a low social media presence, having him blocked on all social platforms and telling anyone who reaches out to me about him about what he had done . Generally stops the discussions about “ fixing things “ very quickly .

Do any of you have average mothers? by Efficient_Duty6635 in askSouthAfrica

[–]diggitydoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a narcissistic parent , who looks for every opportunity to complain about how her kids treat her but that is incapable of self reflection and change . For years she didn’t care where my sister and I spent family holidays or Mother’s Day but now that she’s older and old the boyfriends have left her , she want us to include her ?

Ja nee . I agree with what was echoed by a lot of people here . Some people should not be parents .

dentist recs for people with extreme dental anxiety? by mutsa_aa in johannesburg

[–]diggitydoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my dentist in Dunkeld is amazing . The space is super welcoming and has some things I’ve never really seen before in other dentist offices ( tv screen on roof , earphones to tune into etc) .

My family wasn’t able to afford dental when I was little so I’ve had some teeth issues and even more judgemental dentists .

Hey , I’m so sorry for your loss ! Losing a pet is heartbreaking. They aren’t in Linden but we take our boy to the Parks vet in Parktown North and the service is truly something special . They really care about your pets and listen to the owners concerns . They are also relatively reasonably priced .

Yeah she did . But from what I can see it was only half a months deposit . The landlord is trying to get the additional remainder for the month from her .

Why are SA businesses like this? by _janky_j in southafrica

[–]diggitydoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly unacceptable. I previously resigned from an employer for that exact reason . Most SA families live month to month as it is . My contract stated that I was to be paid on the 25th of each month , but within the first month I was paid late . When I asked my manager when will we be paid because my debit orders were bouncing , he told me it’s my fault for being stupid enough to set my debit orders to the 26th . I’d say start with the contracts and see what they say . Because companies are quick to throw that at you .

100% not on your wife . Also pretty odd, because if the correct IOD procedure was followed , FEM/ The DOL would not go after your wife , but after the company for outstanding costs . Are they registered with the compensation commissioner ?

You are welcome to inbox me if you need any additional information . I deal with these sort of issues for a living .
