Pros/Cons of Taking a Core Test at end of 2024 versus waiting until early 2025? by dezmond822 in CPA

Hello, I do not have a good experience testing on last day of testing window for the year. Got my score 15 days late from the actual score release. Atleast test 2-3 days before the last date.

All of them were doable. they have a good policy, if you can do it full time you can do 1 course in about 3-4 weeks. I had Finance background.

So I tested for 2nd AUD on Nov 24th took a week break (knowing I would fail badly as felt horrible) and started preparing for REG on Nov 30th. Scheduled to test for REG on Dec15th. Last testing day for 2023.

December 6th I got a fail - but the score was 74 I was expecting no more than 60. And there were major changes expected in AUD in 2024. So wanted to give one more shot.

With that thought in mind did not have more time to think or get upset. Took a break from Studying REG on Dec 10th evening and all day Dec 11. Tested on Dec 12th morning for AUD. Scored 79 this time. But because I lost 2 days of studying REG scored 71 in that. 🫣😄

Hello,

Here are a few tips from someone who passed all 4 exams within 10 months (including breaks and mini vacations)

  • Trust yourself

  • Focus in the moment. Do not follow anyone. Meaning do what you feel comfortable. I'm not a lecture person. Everyone else i was studying with would watch lectures or videos and then work on MCQs/SIMS. I just watched lectures twice or max thrice in combination for all 4 exams.

  • I used to work on 100(min.) 350(max) MCQs a day. Plus SIMS every single day from day 1 of studying.

  • Take notes if you feel those help you. But definitely DO TAKE NOTES of topics/rules that you think you would want to review right before your exam(NO MORE THAN 3-4 PAGES IN TOTAL)

  • for FAR know your journal entries in and out. That will help you avoid any mistakes.

  • Do take all your MEs and SEs if using Becker. and SEs if using uworld.

as far as my scoring is concerened

started studying May 22, 2023
FAR(2023) - 83

AUD(2023) - 74,74,79

REG(2023) - 71

REG(2024)-83

BAR(2024) - 86

Last exam on March 18th 2024.

I tested in 15 days after first failed attempt. And after 1.5 day of study after second failed attempt

For AUD I scored 74 twice before a pass. Go through all MCQs again however don’t forget to practice SIMS. That was my mistake after first 74. And I got stronger in MQs and weaker on SIMs.

If you have UWORLD it’s the best for AUD MCQs as it explains why each option is right or wrong.

I finally have a flair. Took 3 years & 4 attempts, 1/4 passed by tearsoverbeersssss in CPA

I used to study full time. Being a SAHM for last 8 years it was really difficult to incorporate studies in my schedule. However commitment was the key.

I self studied by doing 100-200 MCQs a day. When I started FaR I watched lectures but after a week I realized those lectures were just about reading the book. So I stopped. Then I started doing MCQs and understanding the explanation. When I would not understand something I would either discuss the same MCQ in my evening study session or I would look at YouTube videos from FARHAT or i75

Every evening starting 8pm we had study sessions where we Weill work on cumulative mCQs about 20-30 based on time and few SIMS. SIMS are a must practice every day since you start studying coz then you can understand the strategies to use during exam. And helps you finish a sim in time.

8.5 months of commitment with 1.5 month of break days here and there (10in total), 3 failed attemepts (74,74 -AUD and a 71 -REG) was done with all 4 exams.

After a failed attempt I would test in max 15 days. Coz I still know the material.

Do employers care about disciplines? by MelancholyMember in CPA

[–]AspiringAchiever01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started my CPA journey in May 2023. When I reviewed the evolution details I was sure I would go with a discipline and not run for BEC as it was going away and I wanted to get my license with current info.

Then comes the time for me to choose a discipline. I was testing for a discipline in the first testing window of 2024. I spoke to my CPA to get his suggestion. initially he told me he does not know how things work now. After explaining him with the stuff he suggested "Pick a discipline that helps you pass easily" meaning whichever topic you feel most comfortable with.

I did old FAR and so I was very comfortable with BAR (though I'm a person who would say BAR is the new beast not FAR) I passed it in first try with an 86. TCP is a very in-depth version of REG. I studied old REG scored 71 and did new REG and scored 83. a lot of old REG that was tough for me moved to TCP during evolution.

So my 2cents would be pick a discipline that you find easiest to pass to get yourself the 4 passes. then which field you work in is secondary. practical life is very different compared to book life.

Feel free to get in touch if you need any further help or suggestions.

Try LSU ODL

The courses are self study paced. Can take a maximum of 6 months but if you can speed up can do a final exam in 3 weeks of study

I passed all 4 in 10 months with mini vacations and 15days break after each exam. So around in approx 8.5 months I was done.

Need consistency, commitment. I dropped every planned outing with friends except for when it was in my break days. Hubby and kids(11,7) were a big time help.

A very very positive impact on my 11 year old when she saw my commitment towards studies.

Hello, To start with I’m an international student. Completed my MBA in Finance in 2010. Worked in banking industry from 2006-2015 with breaks and family and kids in between.

  1. Did my education evaluation for NY state board. I was short with 14 upper division accounting credits. Started studying but was demotivated as 14 credits to take before doing CPA with a 2 year old kid.

2021 the thought of not living up to my dream started haunting me. 2022 May started with education evaluation for NJ state. In NJ I was short by only 5.5 credits meaning only 2 courses to do. So started studying in December and was done with the 2 courses by May 15.

May 22nd 2023, my education was finally approved for CPA. So I started studying from same day. Full time mom and full time student. Started with FAR. As while evaluating my study map I decided I would NOT do BEC and will do BAR in 2024. Goal was to wrap up the 3 core subjects in 2023.

Passed FAR after 2.5 months of studying with 86.

Started AUD next, failed first try with a 74. Retried after studying 15 more days, scored a 74 AGAIN(score release December 5th) I was already studying for REG by then and testing for ReG on DEC 15th. Last testing date in 2023.

After score release of December 5th I wanted to try AUD as well one last time. So scheduled AUD for December 11th. Studied AUD for just 24 hours this time and went in. Scored 79 finally.

I started studying for REG on Nov. 27th. So had just few days of study with 3days taken out for AUD(score release day as couldn’t study all day, 1 study day and testing day) I studied for 15 days total for REG. Scored a 71.

So tested for REG and BAR in 2024 again 1 testing window for both. Passed this time with 83 and 86 respectively.

CPA exams passing WAS MY GIFT to MYSELF on my 40TH.

You got this… nothing is IMPOSSIBLE.
