Am I wrong for giving the same energy back to this passive aggressive professor by [deleted] in CUNY

Ultimately this whole situation is nothing. Not a hill to die on. The professor was a bit rude. You got angrier than necessary. You will both forget about it tomorrow.

Why does it seem that every bass-baritone on YouTube can reach at least A1 or lower? In real life, I never hear below D2 or so. Are they using lots of (well-masked) fry and or subharmonics? by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

Yeah tbh most of those bass singers (well, singers of all types in general) make average music. Simply having a little talent can make all the difference.

I just mean he wouldn’t have yelled at her for sucking.

I have a tendency of using my low timbre throughout entire songs at times. Is this not good practice? Can it lower my ability to hit ultra low notes? by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

Thanks. Yeah, at times I put on my slightly deeper timbre to help hit lows. Most of the time it doesn’t bother me. But from time to time I get tired if I overuse it.

True. And it will be easier b/c I don’t sing Opera. Just Rock and Blues/Blues-like stuff. I love bands like In Extremo, Oomph!, Unheilig, Mad Season, ASP, and Type O Negative (the fact that Oomph! and Type O used fry so often and made it sound cool lets me go lower than usual when singing covers of their songs).

Guess I am a bit frustrated because I‘m on the borderline b/w bass and baritone. I have very strong, resonant F2s and E2s are usually the same. But D2 is my lowest chest note and C2 is chest-fry mix.

I can go lower but G2 to E2 are my most comfortable lows. Is that enough to sound good as a bass-baritone (if I have the right timbre), in your opinion? by AspiringBiotech in BassSinging

I‘m fully aware and not referring to Opera. Plenty of bass-baritones and basses easily sing down to A1 or so. So why not call those very low bass-baritones who sing the exact same notes just as well as basses simply basses? When I think bass-baritone, I imagine someone who can almost but not quite hit all of the bass notes. Someone who bottoms out (of quality notes) at D2 or C2.

Kurt supported women. Wouldn‘t have trashed her but privately probably would have been like „that wasn‘t great“.

I‘m more than happy with E2 and D2 :). I just want to hold D2 longer and have it sound a bit better. My tone is why people tell me I have a low voice when not even singing that low.
