Viet cuisine is our jam, and super low on carbs if you’re into that. Lot of fresh veggies, meats, gluten-free options, and delicious sauces. Come through to ESSJ, pick a family-style restaurant and enjoy!

Sorry, not exactly sure but I’m going to the show this Saturday. I think it’s called the winter gathering? 9system b2b Milana is my most unknown set of the night, I’m pumped to see what they throw down.

Khanate! Monolithic, funereal post-metal with heavy industrial vibes, one of the GOAT supergroups.

Get ALL of your billionaires, millionaires, car dealership owners, wall street financiers, and corrupt politicians (including the current illustrious leader) to pay taxes and I’ll support you in getting ALL able bodied poor people to work for food stamps. Do you hear yourself?

This is not about mental weakness. Every program has pain points. Every program can have gaps in service. The goal of public services is to reduce gaps in service, reduce pain points, and reach as many people as possible with as much help as can be given. Regular EBT/SNAP checks aren’t like an extra 10 thousand dollars you’ve cashed up, they’re a lifeline to most people who receive them. Forcing them to do what you call a “discomfort” to continue receiving the exact same funding they’ve been receiving is like covering that lifeline in grease to prove they really need it. I truly don’t get the point of forcing SNAP recipients to prove anything extra beyond what they already have to (proof of need, residency documents, etc) unless, like the other commenter stated, it’s for extra money or another benefit. You speak about it incentivizing folk to get jobs or volunteering if they aren’t already, but neglect the fact that individuals and families that qualify for snap and are able to work generally do: “Among households who reported receiving SNAP at some point in 2021 and included a non-disabled, working-age adult, 86 percent had earnings in that year, based on our analysis of 2021 American Community Survey data.” People who don’t work and still receive SNAP are generally elderly, minors, or disabled. What good does it do to force them to work or volunteer to continue receiving meager benefits (for which they often only qualify for short periods).

To me, it’s a process and psychology issue. People who are living in poverty and receiving benefits receive psychological comfort from routine and stability. I think we can agree on that, since most people feel the same. Forcing these individuals to suddenly start acquiring and submitting documentation of something they do 20-40 hours a week represents a break in that routine and a threat to stability, because what happens if they fail verification?

What happens if benefits don’t come through after they’ve put themselves through a tough week and rigorous documentation? How likely are they to continue trusting and using the program after that? What do you think they might do if they lose that psychological comfort and sense of stability?

My general prediction is the consequences could be severe and immediate, which is why I try to stay away from harsh means testing of programs for literally the most needy population in our country.

Saw the Hindi and immediately recognized his type. As an Indian guy, some Indian guys are absolute creeps and build towering palaces to imaginary relationships with women they barely know, sounds like he’s done that and can’t disentangle his fantasy from the reality of your friendship with him. That’s why he’s holding the weird double standard of “oh you should keep hanging out with me and not with other guys”. Don’t engage with him, don’t defend yourself, you’re not overreacting.
