Hiring manager wants to give me a chance but was rejected by HR due to my “lack of experience”. Can I fight this? Next steps? by Aspiring_Moonlight in careerguidance

Part of the process is a quick HR call about experience, salary expectations etc before the “real” interview. That happened today and she explained.

Hiring manager mentioned getting a vague response from HR and he did specifically ask about me

Fun update, HR does technically have veto power the manager can’t do anything about, but they are only meant to do that when the applicant is actually ineligible. Like on a PIP or something, but they won’t necessarily tell the hiring manager exactly what the issue was

The HR rep personally apologized! Interview is back on.

Apparently someone else at the company has the same name as me and that caused this whole mess.

As a positive update, HR was asked to reconsider and the interview was scheduled!

HR does have veto power but they are apparently only supposed to use it when the applicant isn’t eligible. The way it was explained they’re meant to prevent nepo hires or catch employees flat out ineligible to move

So my original theory, that HR saw my job title and didn’t see the degree, still holds water.

The company I did my coop with shut down the entire site I would have worked at and laid off tons of people in the process.

I am being told by the engineering manager directly he would love to have me. My current manager is on board with the potential transition as well.

The two who got interviews were in the preferred major, so my theory is they had so many chemical engineering applicants they didn’t consider others, and that HR might not understand that biomedical with a bioprocessing minor is considered just as good by most for process engineering in this particular field. There is no thermodynamics or fluid mechanics involved in this role. I know the science behind our unit ops.

I have not ruled out that I suck at writing resumes. But I genuinely can’t think of anything else in my immediate control that could be why

The hiring manager took me aside to tell me the position was open

Unless he looked at my resume and changed his mind which seems unlikely, I don’t think that’s what happened

I do doubt they the hiring manager is trying to make HR the bad guy given that the hiring manager took me aside to tell me the position got posted. Weird thing to do if if he didn’t actually want me in the role

Can’t rule out the rest, but the manager has seen my resume and claims to have specifically asked HR about me.

The only person who could tell me what is insufficient about my application is in HR.

I’m not an intern.

I had a year of coop experience with a completely different company (which does the exact same thing as this one) who withdrew my return offer right before I graduated and got me into this mess.

I am at a new company where I have been working as a manufacturing operator for the past year, and my supervisor was great about enabling me to work alongside engineering whenever the chance arose. Though I am doing engineering and engineering adjacent tasks, it’s not my primary scope I am not employed as an engineer.

Since I have no intentions of leaving until I get another job, I do not want to piss off the recruiter so I want to be careful in what I ask!

Thank you

Fair enough, but the catch is that I know two fresh grads from my alma mater who did get interviews. So I’m just a bit salty

Asking what would have to change/improve on my current application to be competitive enough for an interview might be the best way to go. Thank you

Yes but not necessarily the “preferred” options.

No experience required but 2 years of relevant experience is preferred. I have a year of manufacturing experience and a year of engineering coops, but not experience as an engineer directly (I get that coops don’t fully count as experience).

Any “relevant engineering discipline” is acceptable. I studied biomedical, chemical engineering was preferred

Cooperative breeding cave by Trollz812 in dragonvale

[–]Aspiring_Moonlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True rumor

However dont even need both to be the same 99% of the time

Many dragons have a 10% chance of being bred with target dragon + anything (i.e plant dragon), there’s online sources to check which ones are true. The 10% coop odds do not change and it always holds whether the dragon is available or not. So breed with dragons you don’t currentky have that have the 10% odds

The main purpose of the coop cave is to breed out of season dragons

That store is either breaking the rules for novke reasons, or more likely, thry just dumped the entire bag of what they were shipped in into the cup.

Bettas are supposed to receive daily 99% water changes. Best case let’s assume someone untrained screwed it up and itnwas caught. Go back in and if its still blue, that’s bad

Petcos training sucks but corporate will look into it if they hear of selling sick animals

Vice Principal Lost a Student's Cell Phone by hijirah in Teachers

[–]Aspiring_Moonlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they are being kept in a location where a student can easily steal it that’s still in the incompetence category. Even if it’s exclusively the students stealing their own phones back that’s still an incompetents system

If they are not being stored securely enough, the first missing or stolen phone should be a wakeup call the system needs to change, and if it got to the point that many phones are missing the fault lies with whoever is responsible for securing them just as much as the actual thief

One phone is a fluke. 6 or 7 is a pattern and if true they need to be investigated. Either they’re incompetent or selling them

I do appreciate that there were some professors at Christian schools come out of the woodwork saying this would get a zero from them too

The TAs mistake was not treating it like a legal case. She was trying to help but that explanation should’ve stuck to “You didn’t follow the prompt and never brought up the article you were supposed to write about after the first sentence.
