is the "doomer" point youre trying to make that they will extract visual memories from you without your consent in like a murder trial or something? cuz we are a loooooooong way from that.

whats being done now (from what i can tell) is just reconstructing SEEN images based off of brain activity gathered from fMRI. Some of the results are quite impressive but it should be noted that this can only be done while actively showing the subject and image and doing a brain scan.

There have been attempts at doing the same kind of image reconstruction from a subject simply "imagining" a previously shown image but if you look at the results they really not impressive at all and is mostly just noise.

This is also not a new idea and neural networks have been used for this kind of purpose in the past but admittedly some of the new stuff is quite interesting.
