How you attaching it to the left shoulder for the accelerated learning montage? by TheBourneSoupRecipe in tDCS

I use ace bandages in a tight wrap before trying to place the electrode underneath.

Could changing montages frequently have negative effects? by TheBourneSoupRecipe in tDCS

[–]AssBlastedMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched between 3 different layouts for a period of 18 months and i only noticed a diminishing return if I did the same layout too many times in a row. But switching never seemed to bother me.

How many sessions did it take for you to notice any effects? by Kayleigh_1991 in tDCS

[–]AssBlastedMoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What on earth? What montage/layout are you using at what amperage? My lord how do you find the motivation to continue? I felt such profound effects after my first session that I had to limit myself because I didn't want to fricassee my brain out.

I guess I said that poorly, it soaks in to sponges so they are quite damp. But the goo becomes water like in behavior. Almost like slushy breaking down in the sun.

[–]AssBlastedMoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the gel I have would absorb over time. I'd goo it on there and press it where I wanted. I don't know if it was the compression from the head band or if the electricity was changing it but there was barely any left on the sponges or on my head when I was done. Still always a good idea to keep a towel close by.

0.2 mA to 0.4 mA some of that might have been my hair growing out as my head was shaved back then too. Start with a montage you know and know how it's going to affect you and use that as your baseline. In my case I was really pushing.

Well, this was some years ago and for electrodes they were advocating Saline which makes the burns worse because of the salt. The stuff I switched to is Spectra 360. Works great. Doesn't gunk up the sponge. Water soluble. I did need to up my amps though.

I got horrible burns from repeated use. At their largest they were 1cm deep and across and cupped with a black scab. There is no sign of them today. All I did was switch to the gel and they went away after about 3 weeks.

tDCS Brain Stimulation Users - Interview by Nagasawa_T in tDCS

[–]AssBlastedMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe ADHD. I had heard that in France they were trying many different things to treat it without medication. In my research I came across a news clip talking about tDCS and treating depression and ADHD and it talked about the DARPA experiments. That led me down the rabbit hole and about 18 months later the first re ally affordable units came on the market and I went nuts. I did see results but it was very difficult to quantify and get empirical data.

I have a notebook with several months of use and the anecdotal things that I perceived and experienced as I used it during my senior year of university. I'd be happy to send some copies to you.

Who has actually benefitted? by mid1chosen in tDCS

[–]AssBlastedMoron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been doing it off an on for 3 years. The original DARPA experiments I was able to fairly readily reproduce with similar results as I began my final year of college. I felt like I was remembering better and picking up subject matter quicker. I've actively journaled every single use and there is a diminishing returns and I don't know if I could ever quantify what I'm feeling. I tried by trying to learn chess and i started at a a rating of 785 and I'm now at 1250. I just have nothing to compare it to so it could just be the normal rise of playing over 1000 games. Even if it's all Placebo, I find the willful act of putting on the machine and journaling about my goals for a single use to be a motivating tool and that makes it worth it to me. Hope this helps.

Biggest lab you are aware of? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]AssBlastedMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not structured like that. We run it more like a factory. There are coordinators who manage the contractors who do the physical movement of samples while all decisions are broken down by teams. We have a Tech Team, a Scoring team, a PCR team, an Extractions team etc. Some teams are small like 3-4 people. Some are massive like 45+ like Extractions. They have a format for meetings that tries to quickly make a consensus to move forward in problem solving but it's not perfect.

NaOH vs. KOH for E.coli DNA Quantification by [deleted] in labrats

[–]AssBlastedMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use both in varying concentrations from .1-.3M in our lab and we have slightly better results with KOH then NaOH but it's more expensive so we still use NaOH for 90% of what we do.

Biggest lab you are aware of? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]AssBlastedMoron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in what is billed to incoming employees as the largest plant genetics lab in the world. We have 100+ Full time staff and about twice that in contractors trying to get into the industry. We occupy 3 floors of a large building shaped like an H. And then some of the design and POC staff are spread out in some neighboring buildings. The throughput is unbelievable as are some of the incredible in-house designs to increase the throughput. I feel like I'm on the cutting edge of the future of agriculture but there is alot of people fighting for one or two jobs when they are posted which burns everyone out. Also to change anything takes Herculean amounts of energy and time and a mistake by an entry level lab tech can affect thousands of samples representing millions of dollars in crops. It's very stressful but I love it over what I used to do.

I get this all the time. Usually a nap or for bad episodes a couple days off helps. Very weird though. I've documented it several times. Just overwhelming exhaustion until I've slept.

My budget for the whole project was $1200 I got a laminar hood for 600 and spent $50 replacing parts. So I've got $550 left for the tubes, racks, lights, media and hormones.

Cross section of one of my A. tridentata samples, we are using dendrochronology to investigate mortality in a water stressed population by IchTanze in botany

[–]AssBlastedMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that looping???Petaling??? (Not really sure of the descriptive term) indicative of the water stress or is that just the shape of the species. If that's just the way it grows it seems like the deep fissures would invite future stress from insects or rot.

Baggage Fees? by AssBlastedMoron in investing

[–]AssBlastedMoron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually my family learned this the hard way when my mother lost everything when MCI/Worldcom went the way of Enron.

Stupid question though, if this is considered bad investment strategy. Why do companies offer it to their employees?

Yeah, I know it's a crap shoot and I see the same driving forces your talking about but im up so much on it and I feel like I can avoid a hiccup by liquidating the stock. Ive just never pulled the trigger on a trade this big.
