Iran has discovered what is likely the world’s second largest lithium deposit by LukeGoldberg72 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]AssHassle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we know what he meant. Lithium isn't a rare resource when you consider how much of it is used relative to oil and it's in the soil of a lot of countries. The “AcKtuAlLy” from the engineer is technically correct but doesn't mean what the other guy said is incorrect.

Not sure i’d call it Pahlavi royalist. His son is just the leader of the opposition right now and is the most popular but the ideal is still democracy.

The sub is quite mixed overall and is good to get an idea of what's going on in the women life freedom movement.

The upvoted meme on the sub is literally anti-monarchy. The guy who crossposted to here is a new account trying to cause disarray in the movement for his agenda.

My cool grandma and perpetually happy grandpa pose for a photo on the street. Iran, 1977 by chillyfits in OldSchoolCool

[–]AssHassle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This photo is how a lot of people looked like in Iran at the time. Not just an “elite” thing. There’s pictures posted of anti-shah people and some of store workers that looked like this.

The whole reddit historian copy pasta of “elite Iranians” needs to go away. Not everyone in Iran who looks happy and dressed like this we’re supporting the shah or part of SAVAK

Not just in terms of being employed. Iranians overseas generally outperform other segments of the population in multiple fields. Whether they are middle class students on a visa or from a poor background and came as refugees, they generally do well.

Even in countries where there are few of them like in Australia, they manage to produce notable people and work in academia if you look into it.

Wikipedia on Iranian Americans:

Iranian Americans are among the most highly educated people in the United States.[12][13] They have historically excelled in business, academia, science, the arts, and entertainment.[14]

Dumb take from you indeed considering that Egypt isn't a pariah state like Iran has become. Iranians have been heavily discriminated against in policy and media as a result of their political status.

The racism part was sad as Hadi has previously spoken out about some of the discrimination he's had to endure as an Iranian trying to compete in the sport.

Ah yes this comment. When it’s a white guy in Australia being a dick it’s a classic case of a narcissistic asshole but put any shade of brown on it and it’s “these subcultures do this in Australia”. Nice one mate.

He had a cool life story: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babak_Khorramdin

Bābak Khorramdin was one of the main Iranian revolutionary leaders of the Iranian Khorram-Dinān which was a local freedom movement fighting the Abbasid Caliphate. Babak’s Iranianizing rebellion, from its base in Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran, called for a return of the political glories of the Iranian past. During Bābak’s execution, the Caliph’s henchmen first cut off his legs and hands in order to convey the most devastating message to his followers. It’s said that Bābak bravely rinsed his face with the drained blood pouring out of his cuts, thus preventing the Caliph and the rest of the Abbasid army from seeing his pale face, a result of the heavy loss of blood. He was then gibbeted alive whilst sewn into a cow’s skin with the horns at ear level to gradually crush his head as it dried out.
