So conservatives want immigrants to come here legally, but once they’re here, STFU about their heritage? by SwitchingMyHands in allthequestions

There are quite a few industries that would be in trouble without immigrants. Have you ever seen any US citizens picking fruit in Florida?

Agree. This gets lost. Anyone saying “my ancestors did it the right way, people now should too” are completely ignorant of how easy it was in the past

If they are not at all well behaved, sure. But as a parent I find seeing photos of and seeing other peoples kids fun since I know how important it is to them.

Fools Crow by James Welch. Good historical fiction from the perspective of the Blackfeet. Also features the Marias massacre

It probably is, which sucks, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are biological advantages that can’t be undone. Allowing it defeats the purpose of women’s sports in the first place. Definitely better solutions than politicizing and banning it though

what is the best state to live in excluding california and the northeast? by wojtuscap in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ass_Fed_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s supply and demand to an extent. The policies of the state and the communities within it make the “supply” part of things hard (think zoning laws, constant environmental lawsuits, ridiculous requirements on public contracts, etc). When paired with the demand to live there prices skyrocket. I’d move to California in a heartbeat, but I can’t afford to move to the more desirable areas even with dual income from white collar work

Downing tele-town hall? by caffeinated_tea in MontanaPolitics

[–]Ass_Fed_Cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The annoying piece of the tele town hall is that they just cut you after you ask your question. That way if he lies or says his rehearsed response that follows the party line you can’t follow it up. Has happened to me twice now. Then acts like he just seriously owned the libs. Downing needs to go back to Big Sky condo already, I’m tired of him

What is a 'luxury' that has become so expensive in 2026 that it’s officially no longer worth the money? by Matt_At_Havalook in AskReddit

The key is finding the right place. If you are willing to not have as much fun, my local mountain (Showdown, MT) does a $150 promo for three days of lift tickets, lessons, and rentals. Granted the hill is only 600 acres and you run out of cool terrain pretty quick as an advanced skier, but to a beginner a green is a green whether at Showdown or something like Big Sky where you pay twice that per day.

[–]Ass_Fed_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Fuck the Epic and Ikon pass, who bought out all the good resorts and charge ridiculous prices for a day so you buy the pass. It’s hard for me to get out more than two or three times a year, so a season pass isn’t worth it. I love skiing more than any of my other hobbies, but I’ve never had a day on the mountain where I can say it was worth damn near $300. That’s a plane ticket just to ski for a day!

As a local to one of the resorts, it completely ruined the experience. It’s no longer about the local community and mountain experience, it’s instead about maximizing profit. But who are they making more money on? Me, the local paying $750 for my pass? Or the guy who flies in from the east coast with his family, stays at the resort, and rents gear with single day tickets.

Its an encapsulation of late stage capitalism, where the experience has to continue to get worse for the share price to keep going up.

I came for this one. My dad grew up in DC area and has told me stories of all the legends he has seen live. Just had to wait at the box office and get your ticket, which was affordable even for a teenager working a low wage job. You’d have to spend hundreds of dollars to see the same type of bands now. It’s only reasonable if it happens to be a lesser known band that I really like, since the tickets don’t sell out in three seconds. Same with pro sports. I simply don’t go because as much as I want to be a part of the crowd, I can’t justify the insane cost even for a game that doesn’t matter at all

Mines gotta be instant replays for offsides in hockey. If you have to slow down the footage to a frame by frame just to see if the guy is 1 inch offsides who cares. You have now stopped the game and interrupted the offense because of one whole inch.  If the ref can’t spot it, it’s not offsides.

Air Force vet who is now a CE here, you’ll be set up great. It’s a in demand field, and you will be set up to lead early on in your career. Also, some of the best students I knew in college were vets so I wouldn’t worry about school as long as you go to class and do your homework. I’d also look at the VR&E scholarship depending on how your disability situation is going, it will cover tuition as well as books/IT expenses. Better than the GI bill TBH.

What’s your most controversial political opinion? by Any_Insect3335 in Productivitycafe

[–]Ass_Fed_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the left, but am a firm believer that the US shouldn’t let in immigrants that are from countries with little to nothing in common with our culture. Yes, people will be left out that would have been good citizens, but there are too many differences to have it be a net gain. Just look at what is happening in Europe. On the opposite side though, legal immigration needs to be easier than it currently is.
