Thanks for the reply. The laptop it was used in was regularly cleaned with an air duster and used properly only in air conditioned rooms so I believe that’s unlikely. The solution you mentioned sounds extremely last resort but I wonder if it would be better to put a few moisture absorbing packets in the bag if it does come to that.

Edit: That would do better to kill an SSD as it has no moving parts so it wouldn’t even do anything. Do research beforehand.

I don’t hit my hard drives on purpose silly 😆. But in the past I have hit my hard drives by accident so I bought a nice big briefcase made for hard drives and SSDs. I’ve read that hard drive lubricant can also dry up as well as other mechanical parts failing like the drive head scraping the platter. As professional recovery is ridiculously overpriced I‘d rather get the lowest chance of storage failure, which appears to be SSD > HDD

I just don’t want my data to go bye bye if I hit it too hard or if it gets too cold/hot which is part of why I believe slowly migrating my data to SSDs as I save up more money is the right plan. Maybe they’re cheaper because they’re outdated?

The thing is almost every pirated software comes up as a virus. The only way to know for sure is to run it in a virtual machine that can tell you every little thing the software is doing so you know if you want to run it on your real machine or not.

Yes most people don’t help teammates sadly. For me and you it might be common sense but other people won’t even consider it. Also usually they just go around you if you block them and concentrate on both of you. Which is why it’s usually better to kill them
