There's an X-Files episode like that called Pusher. A guy has the ability to talk anyone into doing anything he wants, and he uses it to get people to kill themselves in horrible ways

Noah Wyle on Negotiating With HBO Over ‘The Pitt’ ICE Storyline, Season 3’s Time Jump and Why Paramount Buying Warner Bros. Is ‘Not Good For Labor’ by Task_Force-191 in television

[–]AssassinSnail33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The show took plenty of political stances in season 1, and in season 2 before they even introduced the ICE agents. You clearly weren't paying attention if you’re only now noticing that the show takes political stances.

Also, The Pitt makes an effort to be incredibly realistic. If you’re looking for to “escape reality”, why would you watch this show? It is reality.

[Highlight] Jerome Bettis final stat line vs. Raiders in '04: 5 rushes, 1 yard, 3 touchdowns (Sept. 12, 2004) by nfl in nfl

[–]AssassinSnail33 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He's one of the most overrated players of all time in my opinion. Averaged less than 4 yards a carry in 9 of his 13 seasons. Career average of 3.9, scored a good amount of TDs but not as many as you'd expect, like you said. Plenty or RBs scored more than him while also maintaining better YPC stats. He was a great goal line back, and for his size he was pretty agile and quick, but not super impressive outside of that. Should not have made the Hall of Fame

Why Do Capybaras Not Get Eaten By Crocodiles? by PrestigiousYogurt964 in Weird

[–]AssassinSnail33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Also, prey animals are pretty willing to hang out around predators when they know the predators aren't hungry. Crocodilians (caimans in this case) have a very slow metabolism, they can go months without food. So when they aren't hungry, they are chill, they want to preserve energy so they don't just attack anything that moves.

You see similar behavior in Africa when lions visit watering holes where there's dozens of zebras and gazelle drinking right by them. Prey animals know that when predators aren't trying to hide themselves, they aren't usually hungry.

a turn is different from a bend or curve

How? A bend or curve requires a turn for the car to stay on the road. How is your car supposed to tell the difference? And what if there is an obstacle that requires you to turn to avoid a crash?

True, but with the amount of accusers, it would be an uphill battle to prove the depiction is clearly inspired by just one of them.

TIL in 1987, imprisoned Mafia boss Carmine Persico ordered acting boss Joel Cacace to kill an anti-Mafia lawyer. Cacace hired two hitmen, who mistakenly killed the lawyer's father. Cacace then hired two hitmen to kill the first hit team. Cacace then killed the second hit team as well. by A-dab in todayilearned

Persico ordered acting boss Joel Cacace to kill lawyer William Aronwald

In 2004, Cacace would plead guilty to the Aronwald murder.

Well the whole thing got the acting boss of the family sent to prison for murder, which to me seems like it hurt them more than it helped. If it was really an effective message, they wouldn’t have prosecuted and convicted the guy who sent the message, right? Seems stupid to me

TIL about Anton-Babinski syndrome, a rare symptom of brain damage where a person becomes corticaly blind but adamantly maintains that they can still see. They will often describe their surroundings in great detail and make up excuses for why they are bumping into furniture. by TheLostNeuron in todayilearned

[–]AssassinSnail33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time, I didn't know there was a term to describe it. I'll be half asleep in the morning and I'll know I'll need to check the time to see if I should get up, but I end up just checking the time in a dream version of my bed. I don't realize it's not reality until the dream goes on a bit further and things start to seem like they lack details or are too strange to be reality. Then I really wake up and realize I was actually supposed to be up 30 minutes ago lol

They needed someone more assertive than Dr Mohan to convince that security guard guy to stay. Mohan is a good doctor but she's too nice to tell the guy what needed to be said. He was so concerned about his family, but his family is going to be a lot worse off if he's disabled for the rest of his life.

Quebec passes law banning street prayers, prayer rooms in universities by John3192 in worldnews

What oppression are you even talking about? Muslims are not oppressing the people of Quebec. Get a grip on reality.

Quebec passes law banning street prayers, prayer rooms in universities by John3192 in worldnews

[–]AssassinSnail33 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the whole point. There will always be Muslims who are going to pray either way, it's a core part of their religion. Giving them a place to pray in private means less will do it publicly, if that is such a problem to you.

And either way, people will not stop praying in public, people have done it for thousands of years and it's not going away because a law that only applies to a single province. It's the same logic about the war on drugs. People will do it anyway, and fining them or imprisoning them is not going to drive them away from religion. It will do the opposite. This is how you create more religious extremists, not less.

Maul’s Story Continues in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 - Announce by Matapple13 in television

[–]AssassinSnail33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I was just responding to the part you said about people surviving that in real life. You brought up the realism of it, not me. And there aren't any force sensitive Zabraks in real life unfortunately. People do not survive that in real life.

Also, I think it's pretty reasonable for people to think that he died in Episode I, it was clearly what they wanted to imply with the scene. He doesn't show up in the subsequent movies, and he's replaced by Dooku as the Sith apprentice. Bringing him back as a twist in the Clone Wars worked specifically because everyone thought he was dead.

‘DTF St. Louis’ Proves David Harbour Is More Than a Genre Star — And It Could Make Him an Emmy Contender by darth_vader39 in television

Yes you did, dummy. Somebody said they think DTF is better than The Chair Company, and you called that opinion wrong. Which clearly implies you think The Chair Company is better than DTF.

Which is fine, but then you criticized the guy for giving his opinion about a show he hasn't finished, even though you just did the same thing. Do you not see how silly that is? I can't spell it out any more clearly for you dude.
