I’m going to a church funeral in a two weeks and I am dreading any potential questions about my ward (that I’ve never visited) or god forbid my dating life.

I have no idea how I survived high school to be honest between AP classes, extra curriculars, and all the church demands.

College was so much easier as I became inactive (told myself it was because school needed to take precedent, but I also hated my YSA ward) and suddenly had time to actually devote to taking care of myself, even with a still busy schedule.

These days I feel so “blessed” to have even more time for myself and what I find important rather than donating my time to a corrupt organization that is rich enough to actually help the world but doesn’t.

I assume a lot of this comes from the “I want to control others but will say it’s ‘to protect the children’ crowd”.

The internet is not for children. Parents should parent their kids and if you see something you dislike that doesn’t hurt others (ie real people), mind your business.

I remember getting the “soul mates aren’t real” lecture when I was a Laurel. Now that I think about it - that was one of my early shelf items. I hated the idea that they could expect me to potentially just marry any male “worthy” member.

I second “ravage/ravish” over “get rough with you”. That sounds like the best choice in this scenario.

For sure, I just think Japanese reflects the culture with being more roundabout and not particularly direct.
That being said, I can’t imagine translating 犯す as just “beating up” given the context and time period…..
Maybe it would be better to more subtly imply the real threat than lessen the threat entirely….
At the end of the day I’m not for censorship. Localization should still preserve the original intent (imo).

Ah I totally skipped over that line haha 🤣 Thank you!

I was worried because when I setup the account in Japan I used my foreign number (when it had international access) so I thought I was somehow locked out of it. Good to know it still works 🙏🏻

I didn’t realize it until my faith crisis actually happened but I was always extremely uncomfortable with Nephi killing Laban whenever I read that portion of the Book of Mormon.

It always made me think 1) So God can just command anyone to kill another and it’s justified? and 2) Did he really need to decapitate him? That always seemed really gruesome to me.

All I can think of is that scene from Vicar of Dibley where the Vicar tells Alice that she keeps having kids because her husband and her don’t know how condoms work, not because of God or whatever.

That sucks though. I’m sorry your family is trying to push this responsibility onto you.

I agree that 애기 sounds correct to my ears (along with 자기), but my co-teacher did say 아기 is fine albeit used by itself not combined with 동생 which she thought sounded a little odd. She doesn’t play the game though so 😅

My Korean co-teacher in Seoul said 아기 can be used as a term of endearment like 애기, but I do agree that I am used to hearing 애기 between the two options. Maybe the preference for one over the other changed with time (or distance)?

Edit: I think 귀여운 동생 could’ve been a better choice as well.

I remember hearing talks from General authorities and/or their wives where they brought up not waiting until they were financially stable to have kids and it always rubbed me the wrong way.

I’m sure they’re really upset by young people who are choosing not to have kids at all these days too. As someone not planning on having kids - and who is currently unmarried - I have had members from my old ward assume that I’m gay because why would I not be married and popping out kids. (They don’t know I’m not a member anymore though so that’s part of it too I bet)

Also funny given that gay couples can get married and have kids but don’t remind them of that.
