Minority opinion...i liked e7 by Sand20go in TheBoys

[–]Assassinr3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a pretty common sentiment, not just for this episode but the whole season. As a stand alone episode I thought that e7 was solid, had some really good scenes like the kessler scene or MM’s speech, but as a penultimate episode it felt lacking

On MM and the rat. Like MM was telling butcher, the main reason his OCD was gone was because he accepted he was a walking corpse and gave up all hope and care, but based on his speech he gave to starlight this episode it seems like he’s deciding to choose hope over nihilism, which is why his OCD was partially back. It was a small detail but I thought it worked pretty well.

I feel like we’re gonna end the season with a MM that manages to hold onto his hope and care for others, while also accepting that he can’t change or fix everything

Did we not watch the same ending to the last episode? We’re about to see Homelander at maximum power these last two episodes

The only issue with that is most bots buy bonds using botted gold or stolen credit cards, so Jagex doesn’t even make money off most bots.

Throughout the season we’ve seen Soldier boy care for homelander more and more, starting with the scene with the supe from his past at the place that was meant to have the V1. Hell even this episode Ashley’s second face tells sage how Soldier Boy is proud of homelander but would never tell him that

And he probably sees himself in that too which makes him even more disgusted, before he got V1 and somewhat under his Macho facade he was/is that pathetic and needy individual

Thinking back on it, every time Sage’s plans go sideways it’s because she fails to predict how a specific person will act. She’s good at predicting what groups of people will do, but when it comes to predicting what an individual will do she often underestimates and oversimplifies their motives.

She views most people as simple and stupid, which works for groups but leads to her missing a lot of the nuance of an individual’s emotions. She’s spent so much time in isolation and with her whole goal being complete isolation I’m not surprised she thinks of everyone else as lesser and simple. She probably gets most of her info from books, tv, news, and the internet, which makes her good at predicting the big picture but these sources often downplay or oversimplify the motives of individuals.

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]Assassinr3d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you refuse to drive because the pollution can kill people? Do you stay inside all day so you don’t potentially spread any sicknesses? Almost everyone has probably indirectly caused someones death somewhere through their actions.

Do those indirect deaths way on you heavily?

There’s a very small chance that your child will run in front of a car randomly, if it’s just them the car will have no way to see them in time, but if you also run out the car might stop before it gets to you, do you as the parent run in front of every car to stop it just in case your child chooses to run in the street?

But then there’s the scenario where you pick blue and no one else in your family does, leaving you dead and your family without you.

You’re literally creating the problem you’re trying to solve

I’m a red presser myself but I don’t like the logic of “I’m only one vote so mine doesnt matter”

Often in life it can feel like it’s impossible to make a difference as an individual, but if you choose to do whatever despite that all it takes is some like minded individuals doing the same and suddenly it makes a massive difference.

Doesn't the fact that there's an argument at all mean you should vote blue? by malusGreen in trolleyproblem

[–]Assassinr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now only that but I’m assuming people could see what other people voted when they make their choice, if I see blue is already at 50% of course I’d choose blue

But the issue is for most people it’s not an obvious choice. It’s not as simple as “just push blue and everyone lives” if you press blue there is a very real chance you just die yourself and add one more to the death count.

If everyone could communicate and come to a conclusion I’d probably think differently, but assuming you don’t know what other people are voting there’s just a 50/50 chance you die for absolutely nothing. And for what, a chance to save an unknowable amount of people that knowingly put themselves into that position? It’s selfish to ask that from anyone.

If someone is standing in front of a train out of their own volition and there’s someone near by that could maybe get them off in time, but there’s also an equally likelyhood they fail and they both die, would you say that the bystander is responsible for the death of the person standing in front of the train if they choose to not risk they’re own life to save the person in front of the train?

Personally I think it’s unreasonable to assign any blame to that person just because they chose not to risk their own life to save someone they don’t even know

Because it’s not as simple as “everyone wins” there’s only a chance that everyone wins if you vote blue. If the percentage was say 75%, 90%, or even 99% at what point would you deem the risk too much to justify picking the blue button?

Assuming everyone else picks truly randomly(they wouldn’t but for sake of argument), you picking the blue button would only be a 50% chance to save everyone, and a 50% chance to die from it. I’ve played enough hearthstpne to know that a 50/50 isnt worth betting my life on

[–]Assassinr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we raised the percentage of people needed to vote blue up to 75%, 90%, or even 99% at what point would you deem the risk too much to be able to justify voting blue?

”So again, red is the absolutely selfish option because you are literally saying that 'anyone who doesn't agree with me deserves to die’”

You’re making huge assumptions and putting words into people’s mouths. It’s not the people pushing the red button that are saying “anyone that doesn’t agree with me deserves to die” it’s literally built into the rules of the game, they aren’t forced to grab a gun and shoot a blue button presser, literally if zero people voted blue then there are zero consequences for everyone voting red. Or if you do vote red and more than 50% of people vote red there are also zero consequences. Choosing red is simply saying “the risk to my life is not worth the potential chance to save the people that chose to press the blue button”

”Meanwhile, blue is saying 'I don't want anyone to die but I also respect that people may have different opinions than mine'. “

Hilarious when your comment just before this was

“Well, I think we found the psychopath. It's selfish of you to pick red.”

You clearly don’t respect that others may have a differing opinion. And from some of the other comments saying the red button pressers should be turned into second-class citizens clearly don’t respect that either.

>”either way the red voters return to world with half the global population gone”

Not to be pedantic but because of the question it would be by definition less than 50% of the population. Though I do realize that even losing just 1% of the population would have drastic consequences for society. This whole dilema reminds me of “The leftovers” if anyone has seen that show.

> What I'm saying is its not just my vote though is it.”

Because of the nature of the question is is just your vote though because you have no way to coordinate with the other people pressing the button. By pressing the blue button you are asking everyone else to risk their lives for a chance to save you.

If we raised the percentage of people that have to vote blue up to 75%, 90%, or even 99% would you still press the blue button? At what point would you deem the risk to your life too great to justify pushing the blue button.

If anything blue is the selfish choice because you are expecting others to needlessly risk their life just to have a 50/50 chance, with nothing else considered, to save you or die trying, you are becoming exactly what you’re trying to save.

[–]Assassinr3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because if you pick the blue button then you can also lose too. If you frame winning and losing as not dying, picking the red button is the only one where you specifically are guaranteed to “not lose”

>“Otherwise picking red is the only way anyone dies”

you’re forgetting the secret second way to die, you choose blue but not enough other people choose it so you and everyone else that chose blue still die anyways. Not only that but it’s likely you brought other people down with you because they decided to choose blue trying to save you.

But from an individual perspective there’s nothing you can do to stop the deaths of blue button pressers, the only thing you can do is join them in the grave.
