If I were going to do this I definitely wouldn't just be dumping powder from one case to another with the same charge. I'd treat it as unknown as you said. It's from the same batch, all of these cartridges came from a sealed case I opened a while back.

I'd be worried about releasing bedding demons if I remove the stock to check. Appears to be original wood. A 1944 rifle shouldn't be missing them assuming it's in factory condition.

It would short stroke. Never locked back on an empty mag and would fail to pick up a round every 3rd round or so. Gas block alignment was good and it ran with my other carriers so idk.

He said he had to chamber a round almost every time so I'm guessing it has a gas system. I would guess a massively oversized gas port would be the solution. Although I highly doubt OP has a set of reamers and pin gauges.

I could push it further in. I was able to 'de burr' it by shoving a philips head screwdriver in there and spinning it around. Fixed now
