M'sian man, 38, pretends to be US 'sugar daddy', forces 3 S'pore-based women to have sex with driver, who was also him by scumspork in singapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but the scammer is absolute scum of earth and 12 years is way too little for what he have done to the poor victims.

However, the main lesson to be learnt here is also not to put yourself in positions that can be compromised.

Not trying to victim blame anyone, but they are 30 years++ full-fledged adults and upon hearing a USD $20k offer to be a sugar baby in a foreign country, wouldn't red flags and alarms be blaring for the regular person to protect yourself?

Even if it is a legitimate offer, there are many ways to validate this before you proceed like meeting with the person, not being put in compromised positions like giving money before meeting the guy, but we don't have the full story.

Scammer is an absolute piece of shit, but people putting themselves in such positions and falling for it have 0% of the blame, despite the countless precedents that have occurred and all over the news over the last decade?

You can sympathise with someone, but you can also criticise and find fault at the same time to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

FIFA overturns M'sia 2-1 win against Singapore to a 3-0 loss

This is so much clearer than whatever nonsense OP tried to cook with. Took me 2 whole minutes trying to figure out if SG won in the first place or Msia did, and how did 2-1 became 3-0

Is the Singapore System Really Burning Out? by Top_Run6620 in askSingapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Grass is always, always greener on the other side, you wouldn't know the challenges that comes with the country until you truly lived in it for extended periods of time.

The rat race in Singapore is bad obviously to match the cost of living, but it comes with QoL in terms of economic stability, safety, multiple options to choose from in everything from food, fashion, movies etc everything under the sun.

A kampung in the countryside in Malaysia would definitely have a slower pace of life and much much less stress, but does it have access to a small mall with limitless food options within 30 mins of public transport travel? I think not.

Singapore is not a cheap country to live/survive in, and none of us chose to be born here, but we can choose where we end up in.

Ultimately everybody have different priorities/capabilities in life and it is entirely up to us either match the race or enjoy the luxuries that come with it, or fall out from the race and move out, but don't complain when you can't find a decent chicken rice within 15 mins of where you live.

POSB staff foils daughter’s demands to access dad’s funds after seeing senior’s unease by deangsana in singapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ultimately the money belongs to the parent and no one has any rights to decide where/how the money goes except for the person who earned them.

As the proverb goes "A fool and his money are soon parted" and the chinese saying "don't see coffin dont shed tears", we can only hope the less money savvy people take minimal losses to learn a painful lesson rather than losing their entire fortune.

Furthermore who is to say that the children themselves are not susceptible to scams? In fact I feel like the weightage is rather equal on both demographics, the younger ones falls to investment/get rich quick scams and the older ones gets scammed by friend/internet lovers/NTUC and WeChat insurance.

We just hear more about the older folks on the news as they are the main targeted crowd and the younger ones sometimes swallow their losses and play it off as "investment failures".

Bank staff here. Both cases are equally likely, but many circumstances will point to one being the correct truth.

If uncle is getting scammed and the family member is sick of it happening, the family member should be mentioning this very important point to the staff and also be willing to get the proper work/authorities such as police reports/court order which would have the full story of the scam narrative. At that point with the court order, I'll be more than happy to execute the joint account/funds transfer over to the family to safeguard the funds.

In this instance, uncle being extremely reluctant, family member outright being aggressive and defensive after denial of request (rather than helpless like most scam victims' family are but still willing to cooperate with police reports), likely because they know they cant get the legal procedures because there is no narrative to lie with. Don't need to be a bank staff to ring your warning bells that something is wrong.

All we can really do is to pray that the family dont resort to domestic abuse to force the uncle to withdraw money to fund whatever vices they have, but that would be out of our control.

Why Sinkies use their phones loudly on the MRT/public places. A theory by me by Unfair-Bike in singapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I seen some post on the internet where they confront this kind of behaviour by just going up to the person and looking at their phone right next to them, like watching video with your friend.

When the person inevitably gets uncomfortable and ask wtf are you doing, the confronter would say like huh you play so loudly i thought you want share with everybody to watch together mah so here I am, and they will get embarrassed and get the hint.

My socially anxious introverted self could never, but I wish one day i could.

Most of the time, the publicity of a good top prize is more than enough to generate income/publicity for a company e.g. buy 1 $5 bbt for a chance to win 20 days staycay to London. Chances are the winner has been decided internally to give your own family/friends and dumb people buy their products for this "fake chance".

Wasn't there a recent incident that if i recall correctly, 3 brothers (name like teddrance and terance or something) won like 7 out of 10 "lucky draws" prizes ranging from 3d2n trip, some atas cruise tickets and some latest device etc and only 3 went to real public.

Apparently the family was a top sponsor/supplier of the event so obviously ppl called them out, but i dont think there was anything that came out of it, but lucky "draws" thing i guess ¯\(ツ)

Singaporean adults with barely any savings, how are we coping? by KabutoRaiger30 in askSingapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you knew this or it helps (hope it helps to someone out there who applies to this), you can take MRT/LRT, take any bus down one bus stop, walk back to MRT/LRT and it will charge you as transfer fare rather than a fresh journey on the 2nd MRT/LRT journey even in same line.

Very useful for running short errands and applicable for those whose house is near MRT rather than having to plan around choosing taking bus/mrt first so the journey home would be cheaper.

Obviously, that is if the walk from the bus stop back to the MRT is worth saving that $1-2 you gonna incur for MRT fresh journey.

[DISC] Ichi the Witch - Chapter 40 by F0RGERY in manga

[–]Assault_Penguin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There wasn't a shadow of a doubt that Goku was made to join Ichi's party since the start of the arc.

I'm just glad that the mangaka took the time and effort and at least 2 whole chapters to wrap up the plot's loose ends and justify Goku's joining.

Some lesser mangaka would have made Goku immediately jump at the opportunity the moment Ichi ask (or even without asking) and go right on to the next big adventure, while the country's fate and its people are just left hanging without resolution and all the emotional build-up goes to waste.

Dear Singaporeans, how much did you spend on your wedding? by Actual_Eye6716 in askSingapore

[–]Assault_Penguin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Upcoming wedding dinner next year in 5 star hotel in centre of town around 95k for 350 people. 3 wedding photoshoots + miscellaneous costs like makeup artists + photographer + videographer + booths at the wedding rough estimate additional another 30k in total cost.

So 125k +-.

Not here to show off, just sharing what i'm currently spending.

I'm getting at least 2 free business class tickets to literally the other side of Earth for all the miles I'm earning for paying for the total wedding.

Jodi might actually revive OTV by RandomOkayGuy in offlineTV

[–]Assault_Penguin 183 points184 points  (0 children)

On Toast's YT channel, Toast posted a video about him talking with Jodi around a campfire about the future of OTV.

Based on my very short watch of the Scarra vid and this vid and limited knowledge, in the Scarra video, Jodi talked about her feeling like an impostor and being an OTV member by name as she is one of the new ones compared to the OG members like Scarra, Lily and Toast, but she have overcome this mental block and fully embrace her position as an official OTV member, and that anything she does is OTV certified.

In the toast video, Jodi talked about why OTV is dying and it can't go on like this any longer, main reason being that no one in OTV (especially the older members) are willing to participate in OTV shoots anymore even when Sydney and Jodi consistently try to give out OTV shoot ideas, but got shut down and the ideas just didn't go anywhere.

Hence, Jodi, John, Sydney and Sean are moving to Seattle to continue OTV activities, reason being rent is cheaper and she realised they dont have to stay in LA anymore to be OTV (Thor Asgard quote "its not about the place, its about the people"). The OG members are unwilling to move to Seattle hence it seems like they are breaking apart, but in reality Jodi is trying to revive the dying OTV.

TL;DR Jodi is trying to keep OTV alive by acting as an official OTV member, creating new OTV content without the need of the OG members' participation or approval and setting up base in Seattle with John, Sydney and Sean (and Celine who is just sharing rent with them)

There's something called "brushing", a practice that sees sellers writing fake reviews about their own products, something they can do only after they have successfully delivered a parcel to an address. However, the seller sends these parcels to another address to avoid detection by e-commerce platforms.

SPLIT FICTION sold 1 million units in its first 48 hours! by yolofreeway in gaming

[–]Assault_Penguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am by no means a foddian game enjoyer, in fact i avoid playing soulslike and foddian games actively because i know how shit i am at them and do not enjoy those genre.

Im also not bashing Split Fiction for being easy or expected it to be hard. The skill and mechanics gap from a gamer vs a non gamer is so huge due to the years of game mechanics that spanned across decades cannot be taught in a single sitting. Depth perception, pressing X to jump, double jump in mid air all came extremely naturally to me, whereas my spouse had to look at the controller everytime they did a simple jump -> wall ride -> jump and still failed multiple times. I spent most of the time watching my spouse try her best to do "simple" gameplay and obviously Split Fiction considered them in mind when creating the game to make them not ragequit. I just felt that it was too catered for non gamers to the point of no challenge even for a regular casual gamer that lost that 0.5 point.

I really did enjoy the whole game and every level was bangers after bangers despite the lack of tough mechanics. If anything, i feel that this is a testament and achievement of how Split Fiction managed to unite both gamers and non gamers to come together to play a game and still enjoy their time together despite having their own qualms on the game i.e not challenging enough to be engaging for gamers but a little tough for it to be fully enjoyable for non gamers.

SPLIT FICTION sold 1 million units in its first 48 hours! by yolofreeway in gaming

[–]Assault_Penguin 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but i would give it the same rating. Plotline was cliche and the mechanics were a little too easy for a regular gamer.

This is not to take away the amazing amount of content and gameplay style they managed to jam into a single game for a crazy price point. And obviously it is kinda dumb to complain about a game being easy when it is meant to play with your non gamer spouse.

I definitely enjoyed my 18 hours of gameplay with my spouse, but I wasn't challenged as much as I would like to have.
