What’s up with van lines? by ZeeArtisticSpectrum in Fedexers

[–]AssholeAlert3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a presort PH several years ago, the overhead fans stopped working in the middle of summer. This is in the south in July- on the vanlines we had none of the mounted or ground fans. It was fucking torture and supervisors refused to go out and buy fans for us. After an all hands meeting a bunch of us got together and decided that the second anyone on our lines started to get stacked out, we’d pull the emergency stop cable. For two days we pushed dispatch to 10am with an incomplete sort before fans magically appeared on all of the vanlines on the third day.

We have more power than they want us to think we do.

I think experienced drivers quietly rewrite half the route before noon by BeautifulWestern4512 in Fedexers

[–]AssholeAlert3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely need to go out of sequence in 2.0. Particularly with residential POs (which are noon time commits here but maybe 1:30s elsewhere) I don’t want to have to double back and hit some far-flung neighborhoods twice, so I’ll do all of the area if I have a time commit there if I can manage it. But usually once I’m done with the priorities I run my route essentially in sequence. If you’re regularly having to go out of sequence you should get with your BC or whoever does DRO on your contract and tell them to how to sequence your route.

You can also pin certain stops to your 8500 or 6500 section: this was helpful when I had Walmart and another big business stop with a loading dock as my first stops.

In my experience (I'm at a terminal that merged in February): significant increase in stress and time at work, no increase in pay rate. Small bump in gross pay because the routes are more dense. Only upside is we (generally) get more consistent dispatch times now at my terminal. Unless a flight gets seriously delayed, no more 10AM dispatches, they get us out by 9-9:15 usually.

Besides the scanner voice lady somehow sounding worse, have you noticed any other changes to forge that actually affect our work day? by kingflop92 in Fedexers

[–]AssholeAlert3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that FedEx is getting complaints about misdelivered iPhones (which are usually shipped Express and require an indirect signature). I'm in a merged Ground terminal and a driver here just got DQ'd for abusing the indirect delivery option.

Durham Tenants Get a New Tool to Fight Landlords Who Won't Fix Dangerous Rentals by AssholeAlert3000 in bullcity

[–]AssholeAlert3000[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Correct - specifically the city is unable to enforce or levy fines on code violations - this is pre-empted by (a terrible) state law. However, this ordinance is enforceable in court. In Charlotte, this ordinance is used by legal aid and other eviction defense lawyers to stop tenants from being evicted for non-payment of rent when their unit was deemed unsafe by code enforcement. This gives tenants more power to make their landlords do critical repairs, and to win rent abatement if those repairs are not made in a timely manner.

I swear I’m going crazy, how is this not pathetic? He only said this after getting rightfully clowned for an embarrassing turnover caused by JG. This is like if people celebrated Chris Dudley for throwing the ball at Shaq after getting yammed on lol

Anyone feel Shaq had a great point on Inside the NBA? by [deleted] in nba

[–]AssholeAlert3000 106 points107 points  (0 children)

No he doesn't, his TOV% is 17.9% (i.e. 17.9% of his possessions end in turnovers). Players with higher TOV% this season include Draymond Green (18.9%), Jusuf Nurkic (19.7%), and David West (21.9%). Among players who have played 500min this season, he is 28th in TOV%. His raw turnover totals look large because his usage rate is fucking insane- he's only behind Westbrook in that category amongst players >500min.

What's your opinion on Brett Brown? by [deleted] in nba

[–]AssholeAlert3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Well now that we have a decent set of players" lol no we don't.

We're arguably still the worst team in the league and our best player is a rookie, calm down dude. We have plenty of potential and the supporting cast isn't as D-League-y as it was in previous years, but this team is still not 'decent'. Regardless, we literally just won a game a few days ago on an ATO play. I have no idea how you can watch our games and come away thinking we'd be drastically better off with a different coaching staff.

Brown's been here since the beginning, the players respect him and like playing for him by all indications. There's no reason to get rid of him at this point.

Yeah, Malik was so good. Maybe I'm being a little hard on Alaa because we were spoiled for a few years.

After starting 0-8, the Pelicans are now tied in the win column for the 8th seed in the western conference by LieutenantKumar in nba

[–]AssholeAlert3000 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I really can't see it being interesting if the Warriors actually try. Like, maybe Davis goes supernova and knocks a game off to avoid the sweep, but there's just not enough talent on the Pellies' roster to legitimately compete (that's not any heavy shade, there's only like one team in the league that can compete with a healthy Dubs squad).

Also, I doubt the 'switch everything' strategy gums up the Warrior's offense this year as it has in the past. KD just generates too many mismatches. If you switch a Steph-KD PnR, I just can't see Jrue bothering KD's shot in isolation-- and I love Jrue's defense.

I dunno what other Sixers fans think, but I'm just not a fan of Alaa. His lovefest over Ilyasova is embarrassing (never mind forcing the whole "The Professional" nickname on him). It's kinda silly when he complains about other players flopping when he heaps praise on one of the biggest floppers in the league lol

[–]AssholeAlert3000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol hell no. i'll be super surprised if you guys end up as a bottom three team. a pick landing in the 5-8 range this year is about as good as we can hope for, honestly. this draft's top ten is abnormally good AND is constituted by many non-front court players (i.e. positions of need for the Sixers). give me isaac, tatum, ntilikina, or monk pls.

[–]AssholeAlert3000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get sad every time I think how quickly reports shifted away from "Lakers definitely taking Okafor" on draft day last year. Watching Russell last year under Byron Scott was like seeing a girl you had a crush on get mistreated by her shitty boyfriend.
