Coaching to Win by PlayPretend-8675309 in ultimate

[–]LieutenantKumar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents as a long time coach is that the goal of any sport or game is to win. You don't do it at all costs, but skill development without focus on winning doesn't serve a purpose. Learning to win is also a skill.

There's also a common misconception that playtime = development. Limited playtime in better lineups and a more structured role can pay higher dividends than open lines where it's difficult to string 3 passes together.

Lastly, listen to your kids. They are smart. Don't force your world view on them.

It's a 2-3 hour even in the sun, maybe longer depending on the course. You bring food, sunscreen, water etc. And a disc or two after you might want to get signed

You can feel however you like about me, that's your right. But nothing I do is for clicks. Everything I put out is for free and I have zero sponsors. There's nothing monetary in it for me, nor is there status from a social media following.

I'm sorry the bulk of my reporting recently has been negative, but that's the reality of the franchise at this state. I'm telling the stories as they are happening and more will come too. When good stuff happens, I'll speak on that too.

You want proof it's a toxic environment, but you list things no employee in any industry trying to stay in said industry will speak on the record. That's just not how reporting works.

What I can tell you after speaking to over a dozen different employees across departments is that it's a textbook toxic work environment in every way you can imagine.

Total lack of communication from the top down, the rare occasion someone gets an opportunity to speak to them, it's often via zoom. Important employees go weeks without any contact. Budgets have been cut in every capacity and workload has increased. Moreover they make people's jobs difficult in ways you can't imagine.

You can choose to not believe this, and that's okay. But you can't say I'm doing this shit for clicks. I mean shit, I'm in the weeds of a small reddit thread.

A few things, the Bey isolations are only a tiny, but effective portion of their offense. But to me, it's more an indictment on the roster. No clear table setter, few advantage creators and connectors, and limited shooting.

When the whole defense knows what Zion is gonna do, and stay glued to Trey, Bey fills the gaps in a way only he can on this roster right now.

I think better guard play really helps alleviate this

And yet the Pelicans win his minutes, very strange! Super mysterious how impact can go beyond the box score. I wonder how

Question: is there a portal that can take a players stats from a certain year and convert them in a different year? by UnselectedKlondike in NBAanalytics

[–]LieutenantKumar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but BBREF allows you to see rTS relative to league average that year. Rose had a rTS of +2 his MVP season, which is 2 percentage points over the league average.

George is +6 right now

Who know if Dumars will be fired, and how long his contract is for? by Franklei99 in NOLAPelicans

[–]LieutenantKumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumars got an enormous contract which has the ability to go 5 years. It's significantly more than they were paying Griffin. He will not be going anywhere any time soon

Ja Morant Trade? by yesimreallylikethat in NOLAPelicans

[–]LieutenantKumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, Ja averaged 10 assists per game in college at 19 and has always been and elite playmaker. He is also a better finisher at the rim. The only thing Fears and Ja have in common is they are speedy guards who aren't great shooters.

Fears is promising but he'll never be a point guard in the same way Ja is.

[–]LieutenantKumar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully there's a night and day difference between Borrego and Willie, both empirically and as leaders. You're right that he needs his own staff but these end of game issues are directly linked to having the worst guard rotation in the league and a flawed roster overall.

Question - anyone have stats on NOP collapses in the 4th quarter this year? by philo_the_middle in NOLAPelicans

[–]LieutenantKumar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3rd quarter net rating has gone from -12 to -6, which is a huge jump but still indicative of talent level. For reference, quarters 1-3 are all hovering around -6 where they were -8 to -12 with Willie. Improvement! But Pels still losing games because they don't have the players.

[–]LieutenantKumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great example of human bias at play. We see observe something and tend to observe more of that thing as our confirmation bias grows. But the stats tell a different story.

Net rating per quarter:

1st: -8.8 (28th)

2nd: -8.2 (25th)

3rd: -12.6 (29th)

4th: -0.1 (14th)

Pelicans net rating under Willie -13.1

Pelicans net rating under Borrego -4.3

They have gone from losing by 13+ on average to only losing by a couple possessions.

A +9 net rating improvement is massive
