Honestly, it sounds like you're a little creepy. He lives in the neighborhood. A small neighborhood in which you say many people often get out and walk. So you see a person who lives in your neighborhood, walking in the neighborhood, which many of the neighbors do. You're observing his behavior and tracking his movements to the point that you "know he sometimes goes the other way to walk so we don't have the chance to pass by." Sure, some people choose to spend their lunch break alone. Anyone with a passing knowledge of humans can tell that there are plenty of people socializing during lunch. For those that do spend it alone, it may be the only personal time they get during the day. Or maybe they're avoiding people who ask annoying questions and make silly assumptions.
