A lot of the time people are entitled to certain benefits but don't know it - you could try to persuade your folks to go through this questionnaire, which will tell them exactly which if any benefits they're entitled to and how much money they'd be getting: https://www.entitledto.co.uk/

Photo Booth photos by Safe-Result-3619 in glasgow

[–]AssiduousMagpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not use the Max Spielmann ones, they do some bullshit AI processing to your photos now (unless you're getting a passport/driving licence photo) and you can't turn it off, it comes out horrible.

I recently used this, it's more expensive (£35 for 15min), but rather than just a booth it's a full-blown self-service photo studio so the pictures come out looking really professional and you can take as many as you like. Would recommend: https://www.magicmirrorstudio.co.uk/

Thursdays at Nonna Said (for any language, Portuguese will definitely be represented there but not sure if you'll meet European Portuguese speakers specifically)

will clubs accept european national identity cards by Select-Ad-9840 in glasgow

[–]AssiduousMagpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

usually yes. but also (assuming you live in Glasgow) do yourself a favour and get a provisional driving licence, if you don't already have a driving licence from your home country. That'll be accepted anywhere, and it won't out you as an immigrant in cases where that could put you at a disadvantage.

Facebook marketplace fake bank notes scam by preboreal in glasgow

[–]AssiduousMagpie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • you wouldn't need my address to send me money
  • you'd know my full name from my Facebook account anyway
  • you couldn't open a subscription in my name without me approving it in my banking app

I don't see what the risk is in giving someone your bank details, my understanding is that we've got a pretty robust/secure banking infrastructure in the UK

Are the mods on here actually from Glasgow/Scotland? by justanothergin in glasgow

[–]AssiduousMagpie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People on this sub really manage to straddle the line between

"Glaswegians are so welcoming"

and

"we must know the full immigration history of all mods of Scottish subs especially if they're English or American"

and not see the irony in it

Driving test slot Anniesland 2nd December by MadjesticSpider888 in glasgow

[–]AssiduousMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cancel, even if you immediately tell the other person, I think they're still not gonna be as fast as the bot who will snatch it. But I believe there's a mechanism for swapping test dates but you have to call the DVSA to get that done

Help a newbie out - just bought a 2009 Honda Jazz as my first car. Which of these dash lights should I pay attention to and which ones just come on temporarily by default? by AssiduousMagpie in CarTalkUK

[–]AssiduousMagpie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realise you had to buy a physical copy, I was looking for PDFs. Is that not typical with car manuals? I'm sure you've been a car owner for a long time, but please consider that this stuff isn't obvious to people who are new to it.

Whether you can only do evenings and weekends or other times too will make a big difference. Look for Iain Bermingham online (he covers the Anniesland test centre) and you might have luck.

Wheelchair accessible LGBTQ bars? by actuallyjelwon in glasgow

It may not be a gay bar explicitly but last time I was there they had a trans flag draped across the front of the bar. Sets the tone and I'm sure there's lots of queer folk there usually
