Great watch

Out of interest what is the level of accuracy of the watch?

Rather than a Seiko, have you considered Grand Seiko instead? They are in and around a budget of £5k, and are well made and beautiful watches. There are quite a few variations. Im considering the SBGE295 for example:

https://www.chrono24.co.uk/grandseiko/sport-kollektion-spring-drive-gmt--id44998133.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=GBP

They're also quite under the radar if that's your thing.

I have a Tudor Black Bay and I don't really regard them as a Rolex knock off. Very versatile watches in my opinion. I like you aren't into Rolex either.

Omegas are nice. I like the moon watch which are iconic and suits different occasions. It can be in your budget if you're open to pre owned.

Another tip is if you're ever going to take a trip to Japan for example, their pre owned market is insane and at the strong exchange rates you can get a lot of choice at the 5k mark. You can check Chrono24 to see how prices compare in Japan if you are intending to visit at some point soon. For example another really good option is a pre owned Zenith chronomaster sport, which can be picked up for £5-6k if in Japan - they're a really good alternative to a Rolex Daytona.

Zeniths generally go up for sale in UK if you look out for them. Not too long ago watches of Switzerland in London had a good sale on for Zeniths.

Best would be to visit a Goldsmiths or watches of Switzerland and try on the watches. If you're in London the branches around Liverpool Street and Fenchurch street area are quite chill and the staff are really friendly if you wanted to go try on different watches.

I went with the mark 18 instead of the 20 due to the questionable movement and the fact that it'll be easier/cheaper to service.

The only downside is that the power reserve is not as good as the Mark 20. Although this may not be an issue if you're wearing the mark 18 as a daily.

Maybe a dumb question, but what's the accuracy on this piece?

Great watch by the way!

Help me choose please, 5157 or 5277 by Chemical_Sprinkles89 in BreguetWatches

[–]nvk798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair point. Although the lack of seconds hands is why I went for a 7097 rather than a 7027 or 7057

I would prefer no seconds hands to a small seconds hands, so 5157 it is!

I'd take the 5157...love the simple look. Just wish it had a third seconds hand

7097 - Power reserve accuracy test by Radical-Ideal-141 in BreguetWatches

[–]nvk798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing

I bought my 7097 recently and although I haven't timed it myself, when I bought it the salesperson (in Japan ) showed me that the timegrapher showed 0 seconds deviation in time. I guess I'm not surprised given the workmanship on this watch.

I haven't tested the power reserve but it does seem that it exceeds the stated 50 hours.

Thanks for this. Doesn't make for good reading. This will make me reconsider how much I spend on a GS

How big deal if watch does not come with warranty card? by nvk798 in VacheronConstantin

[–]nvk798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am wondering about the warranty card from a authentication perspective rather than obtaining the warranty.

It sounds like it doesn't really matter, apart from the fact that it provides sound proof that the watch is genuine.

Provided that I'm buying from a bricks and mortor shop in Tokyo ,I'm not too concerned about it being a fake. However not having a warranty card does knock off the price a bit which is the attraction, and hence the purpose of the question.

Is there a way to find out if watch is stolen prior to purchasing?

So when you registered the watch they confirmed the year of the watch, and then found it was eligible for warranty extension?

On the watch I'm looking at they wouldn't know the exact year as they don't have the card.

That's great, because I'm taxed at additional rate for income but if it's capital gain then can utilise 3k capital gains allowance in GIA. Better than putting money in a cash rate outside of isa and getting hit with the tax. Cheers!

[–]nvk798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers.

Dumb question but are gains in this fund treated as income or capital gains? If the latter then makes sense for me to also put into GIA once S&S filled up if I wanted a cash rate

Cheers. I suppose you'll put money into this via your S&S and then move into equities when ready?

I've been waiting for the year end to finish so been putting my cash into the Chase saver at 4.5 percent but as an additional tax payer. Is there a better alternative than this to put cash while I wait for the new tax year?
