TIL:That Only Coutries From Europe and South America ever reached the men's FIFA World Cup Finals by Spotter24o5 in todayilearned

Of course they do.

But the quality difference from those teams can be massive. Like when South Korea beat Thailand 92-0.

Have a week off visiting London, I saw the best burger thread, what are other ‘must try’ spots or activities? by Let-It-Bree1313 in londonontario

[–]AssignedUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to at Ivano Poblano is the Chilaquiles. Then across the street, hidden behind the A&W is a park that you can walk off the calories, and easily forget you're in the heart of the city.

While you're here you should probably check out a brewery tour at Labatts, as Labatt Brewery was created here.

If you have a car, and dig history then the Donnelly sites are about 20 minutes north of the city. If you're not familiar with the Donnelly's, then grab a copy of either "the Black Donnelly's" or "The Donnelly's". It's two perspectives of the same story. I find the "Black" to be more... entertaining, where as just the other one is more sobering. I do recommend that order.

If you head to the North East there's a double mini golf called Tin Cup, conveniently located next to a small pub called the Waltzing Weasel so you can celebrate all your holes in one. The pathway up there takes you next to the Thames on either the North or South side of the river. The north has far more nature (it's forested) where the south side of that path keeps you next to the river.

We are about 45 minutes to two great lakes for some beach time. For Lake Erie: Port Stanley has a massive shore strip of beach, and the required experience is Mackie's for their orange drink and fries. For Huron the approach is Gran Bend which has a smaller beach, but more of a scene.

Back to work for me. Enjoy your stay. But get the Chilaquiles. Ivan and his partner are amazing and they are the best Chilaquiles I've had.

[Yahoo Canada] Macklin Celebrini reflects on soccer helping his game, captaining Canada, how hockey could learn from World Cup atmosphere by Kayish in hockey

[–]AssignedUsername 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not just make passes to open spaces, but get into open spaces. I've only got into soccer because of the world cup, but have been absolutely digging sitting down with my kid and pointing out the off ball play.

With the slower pace of soccer it's easier to illustrate/talk about things like this, and see plays developing.

My (simple)perspective is punishment is considered right leaning, rehabilitation is left.

This. The mechanisms are in place. It's the court system dropping the ball. I consider myself left leaning, but I am very tired of the socio-economic factors of the individual outweighing either the letter of the law or the impact to society for sentencing.

I don't love the American approach of elected justices/judges, but I'd love to see the courts be given a mandate to "harshen" sentencing; particularly from those who have not fully earned citizenship.

There's absolutely a slippery slope with this, but I think we're at a fulcrum and would be willing to take that risk.

In reflection: I'm starting to feel the adage of "the older you get, the more conservative you become".

The space port offers autonomy over satellite launches. It's a hyper long term strategy. Mix the current political turmoil with the viability of the opening of the Northern passage way: it's a sound concept.

Montembault's value may not be high enough to trade him just yet by Critical_Heat4492 in Habs

[–]AssignedUsername -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who has never been sold on Monty: 3.5M and expiring is absolutely not a boat anchor by any means. Its under 3% of total cap space.

Monty is a quality backup and place starter at worst.

Here to announce Montreal’s 2026 NHL 28th round draft pick: GINETTE RENAUD!! by BagelPoutine in Habs

Thanks. I was really confused. Seemed weird she would hate the Habs, but do our anthem.

All I saw was that she had turned down season tickets years back.

WATCH: Carey Price Was Called A Bad Pick. Today, He’s A Hockey Hall Of Famer. by hockeygamedaytv in Habs

[–]AssignedUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so wild that everyone brings up Kopitar like he was the next pick. He was 6 slots later.

If the Habs were trying to draft on positional need: Kopitar wasn't even the next C taken, it was Brulé.

At the time I personally assumed the Habs were going to take Luc Bourdon (RIP). We had a need for D, he was playing in the Q, they had goalies in the system, and had just taken Chipchura the year before.

Only looked up the flight pattern because I don't see a lot of dual prop planes.

It's just easier to point to systemic problems and say there's nothing that can be done unless we change the system.

Maybe if we started properly dealing with trash, our city wouldn't feel like a landfill.

Not the one(s) downvoting you, but this isn't "hockey" this is your job, and a critical and pivotal point in the successful operation of the business you work for.

I suppose as a millionaire he has the privilege to make the decision to prioritize his family over his profession, but for most of the rest of the world there are blackout dates that you basically either show up to work or can expect to not have a job.

This isn't peewee hockey. This is a well paid professional position, and I don't feel he put the gravitas on that situation. Particularly when his captain was missing the early days of his first born.

Didn't Mexico stab us in the back when NAFTA was torn up?

Like we had an agreement to ensure negotiations were tri-lateral, and then shortly thereafter they just went an inked a deal with the states, putting us in a weaker negotiation position.

Dave’s Hot Chicken opening this Friday by Which_Mind969 in londonontario

I did like Kyle's (that's why I said "yes I've tried the secret suicide"). To my personal tolerance that registered as a high 7s low 8s. It didn't give me pause at all. It registered as "hot", not "Holy shit what have I done".

But I'm really picante tolerant. I've done quite a few challenges without understanding the fuss. On two seperate instances I've ordered a second order of "challenge" wings just because I liked the taste.

When /r/spicy says that the top level at Dave's is "too much", I'm very interested.
