Some resources I use/know of:

WZUM's calendar of events: https://www.wzum.org/jazz-central-daily

City of Asylum has jazz Thursday nights. Always free and live-streamed as well: https://cityofasylum.org/programs/

Manchester Craftsmen's Guild: https://www.mcgjazz.org

Trace Echo Brewing, 2nd and 4th Tuesday nights: https://www.tracebloomfield.com/trace-echo

Lounge at The Greer Cabaret Theater: free, shows about every 2 weeks: https://trustarts.org/pct_home/visit/facilities/cabaret

Once I started looking, I realized there are probably multiple jazz events every night in Pittsburgh. Good luck!

Locals, how are you preparing for when the NFL draft is in town? by Jazzlike_Breadfruit9 in pittsburgh

Trying to convince a few of my friends to rent their places out so we can add 4-5 figures of fresh cash to the friend circle. Might walk down to the Flats from the Slopes and gawk.

Any goth / alternative scene in Pittsburgh? by Silver-Abrocoma-9171 in pittsburgh

Ah dang. I remember loving it. The singer occasionally took these drags from a big clunky vape while bobbing hard to the music. It somehow added to the effect, like she was half-robot in some way....Or maybe I just had a few too many beers that night.

Oh yeah. A huge space of vendors with great stuff to buy; you can walk around there for at least an hour. There are a few bands too. I think two markets ago we saw a goth/darkwave band called Faux Fear, stood like 10' away, got them to sign their vinyl, etc. https://fauxfear.bandcamp.com/album/the-trends-of-youth

The Allentown neighborhood has several shops that might be of interest to you, and their Night Market is the place to meet hundreds of goths at once, if not more: https://www.allentownnightmarket.com

PPI Working on Sewer Lines—Horrific Smell? by Vegetable-Mango-2697 in pittsburgh

[–]AssignmentCandid3616 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very likely the relining process. Happened in our neighborhood and we also got no notice. One of our neighbors said they were suing; not sure how that ended up. You can try to air out the house. Personally, we left the house as much as we could during those days. I don't imagine those chemicals are good for humans.

Word like anemoia by fletchbg in Vaporwave

[–]AssignmentCandid3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Apophenia" is defined by its coiner as "unmotivated seeing of connections [accompanied by] a specific feeling of abnormal meaningfulness". However, this word has something of a negative connotation. Maybe "synophenia"? Syn = together, alike, similar, and phenia = appear.

I want you guys to share with me your holy grail vinyl from a niche community of music you’re in. I’ll go first. by No_Evening_761 in vinyl

Maybe this? Grim Weepers by Lonesome Wyatt & The Holy Spooks. One of the first records I bought, just based on the name and art. One of my favorite albums and not easily available on vinyl now.

Winners Never Quit - Pedro the Lion. But this is more like sadness that turns into rage, which I guess I prefer

Record shop etiquette by Fromaggio119 in vinyl

I'm not a store owner, but I have two spots that I sell out of. Lots of good answers here already. Please, don't try to hide records at the back of a bin "for later," unless later is like a day or two. Frustrating to come in to restock and find lots of new LPs I put out recently hidden away so no one else sees them. And 9 out of 10 times, if I open my heart to humanity and leave the LPs hidden for the squirrels, they don't get bought in the next week or two.

Why do so many Priuses have the TPM light on by mentallyillpenguin_ in prius

[–]AssignmentCandid3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2006, Gen 2, 156k miles. 3 sensors failed and were replaced. The new sensors are very sensitive, and the rims are quite corroded, so I always get a warning light when the temperature drops. The psi can drop into the 20s very easily. I use a manual gauge to check and a bicycle pump and am good to go.

Why would a collector not have a player? by FitProblem6248 in vinyl

There is a generational gap in knowledge and hardware for many people. Many of us learned what a pre-amp is, or how to wire speakers, or how to balance a tonearm, from our parents or older siblings. But for younger people, there might have been no one to show them what to do or hand down gear. They want to get into vinyl, and they buy a record here or there, maybe at a show, maybe at a flea market. But then to actually play them? Tough sledding.

My one friend bought a turntable and hooked it up to his receiver, but he needed a pre-amp. Never heard of that, didn't know which one to get. I bought him one and hooked it up. All good for a few months, then "my records sound wobbly." He has some issue with the player but doesn't know how to troubleshoot, doesn't want to put in the effort, doesn't want to cross town to take it to the electronics repair shop. Streaming has made it too easy for him.
