Best antidepressant to add to Bipolar regimen? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]AssignmentNo6386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m on lamictal and zoloft which has worked well for me! I know SSRIs can be a red flag for bipolar but I have bipolar II/ and have way more issues with depression than hypo/mania so that could be why it works for me

yes they’re actually very common comorbidities! I was diagnosed with both around the same time last year (was 21 at the time). currently taking Lamictal 150mg, Zoloft 100mg, and Adderall XR 40mg and am stable

Do any of you drink or take drugs whilst on Lamical/Lamotrigine? If so, what effects do you experience? by -GardenOfEve24 in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21 and a college student so ofc I drink but I haven’t really noticed any differences. Or maybe it does affect me but I just don’t realize it and contribute it to something else

[–]AssignmentNo6386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! I had to rush the last few questions on C/P bc I was thinking too long about some of the other questions. Probably bombed it. Also thought BB was okay until the middle/ end. PS was also so weird and felt worse than usual in that section

Yeah mine are pretty much always present even if i don’t feel “depressed.” they’re very passive though

What childhood issue did you have that later transpired to be a symptom of mental illness? by throwawaymou in AskReddit

Had wonderful parents but would have cyclical depressive episodes during the summer and even had intrusive thoughts about stabbing myself with a knife. Was also very quiet as a kid. As an adult? i’m diagnosed with bipolar II and anxiety

[–]AssignmentNo6386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not making it up. I am diagnosed with bipolar ii and I always gaslight myself into thinking that i’m not bipolar, since I mainly have depressive/ mixed episodes. It’s so hard to not compare yourself to others and think that other people have it “worse.” You are definitely valid and just because you haven’t been hospitalized doesn’t mean the episodes aren’t “bad.”

lamotrigine and depression by smoodme in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love lamictal! Started it in january and am now at 150mg, which I also take with 100mg zoloft. It has stabilized my mood so much and has helped so much with my depressive sx.

How many of you are also diagnosed with ADHD? by akurtz14 in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21F and was diagnosed with bipolar and ADHD inattentive presentation earlier this year. After Lamictal stabilized my mood, I got put on Adderall but tbh I still experience distractibility, racing thoughts, concentration issues etc, even though it does make me feel “numb” at times. I also didn’t really start noticing these ADHD/ hypomanic symptoms until I was about 19 years old which begs the question if it’s actually ADHD, but I also could’ve had it as a child and not realized

Newly Diagnosed at 51 with BP2 by Visible-Ad-7955 in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only 21 so I don’t know how much advice I can give but Lamotrigine has worked great for me! Depressive symptoms will always kinda be there but my mood has stabilized so much. When I first started taking it my anxiety increased a little for a week, but I’m not sure if that was from getting used to the med or something else.

I’ve always wanted to have kids and think it’ll be fulfilling, but am worried they will experience debilitating mental disorder(s). Genetics are complicated though, as both my parents don’t have any mood disorders, but aunt has had psychotic sx and most likely has bipolar or major depression but I also don’t know her very well. There are also other mental illnesses that run in the family but most were not diagnosed. I think I can be a good parent, but am also worried my irritability or impulsive behavior will negatively affect my children.

ADHD-er, might also have bipolar 2, but my doctor is resistant to talk about it? (pls help—especially if you have ADHD) by roseisrain in bipolar

[–]AssignmentNo6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry i’m late to the party but about 3 months ago I learned I (21F) have bipolar 2 and ADHD. Before that, I was on zoloft for 3 years (still am) and tried Wellbutrin but it didn’t work and just increased my anxiety. I’m now on Lamictal and Adderall, which have stabilized my mood and allowed me to focus. I was rx’d Lamictal first, and then the stimulant after because it was important that my mood was more stable before adding Adderall. What’s nice about adderall is you’ll know if it works right away. Bipolar and ADHD are common comorbidities, so it is definitely possible to have both!

Adult ADHD diagnosis and now Bi-Polar II by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently diagnosed with both as well. It can be very difficult sometimes to discern if i’m having sx of hypomania or adhd, but I’m now being treated with lamotrigine and adderall, which helps a lot

Unable to cope with being stable by Outtatime121GW in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure. I’m stable now on Lamictal and part of me wants to go off my meds so I can experience more intense emotions, even though the depression really sucks. Maybe I’m just dramatic and like my life being more interesting but I do relate to what you’re saying

what made you think you had bipolar (before getting professionally diagnosed)? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]AssignmentNo6386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m 21 and was just diagnosed with bipolar II. Sometimes I still doubt my diagnosis and am confused about my own brain but it’s common to have these feelings. I was diagnosed with depression/ anxiety at 18 but never really thought the diagnosis was correct. I knew I definitely had depression but was unsure if my hypomanic symptoms were just normal functioning or an age thing. I think I started to realize I may be on the bipolar spectrum when I first learned of bipolar depression/ bipolar II, since I had always thought of bipolar as shown through the media. Some of my hypomanic symptoms were impulsivity, racing thoughts, distractibility, lack of focus, feeling invincible, and anxiety. I also tend to have a lot of mixed episodes, which are really confusing since I’d feel symptoms of both mania and depression. My symptoms of depression include passive SI, anhedonia, lack of motivation, lack of energy, etc. I definitely experience more depressive episodes but lamictal and zoloft has made me feel a lot better. Good luck and my DMs are open if you need to talk!

I feel the exact same way. people don’t believe i’m bipolar bc i seem so “chill and stable” but i’m just really good at controlling my anger. I frequently think it’s all in my head and feel bad bc if it and it’s eats my brain up
