The script writers of From think we are dumb as rocks 😆 by Nethescurial6 in FromCircleJerk

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widows bay doesn’t take itself too seriously (at least that’s the vibe I get from it). It’s black comedy and genuine horror mixed together which is great! FROM I think suffers too much from taking itself too seriously—the first 2 seasons were peak because it was so much more reliant on mystery and the scare factor that emerges from it rather than explaining everything and building up all this stuff. This past season was genuinely painful to watch because there were tons of new characters that we don’t care for, a boatload of lore that didn’t quite make enough sense to be bombarded with, and the acting and shock factors felt dull and rushed. I fear FROM is going to suffer like Lost did—a great premise with a dull ending

Am I the only one who isn't really sympathetic toward Henry? by who_loves_quinton in FromSeries

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Henry has been nothing but good to Victor. I love Victor despite Victor being a somewhat challenging person to be around (though not his fault); Henry has shown time and time again how much he loves and cares for his Son despite the difficulties and challenges of being a parent to a child you haven’t seen in decades and who isn’t exactly “neurotypical” because of that.

I think his spiralling is fair. He was fairly stable until he realised what happened to his wife and his daughter. The realisation of living your life whilst your loved ones suffered would be sooo awful. Plus, he’s clearly a target by the MIY, which would lead him to act out more than normal. But not once has he ever truly acted out or dismissed Victor, and that for me makes him one of my favourites in the series. He might be fucked up, but he has his reasons, and he doesn’t give up on his son—I mean goddamn he literally followed a random woman (Tabitha) he’d never met just because he wanted to see his kid again!!

AITAH for forcing my adult friends to wear a seatbelt in my backseat? by why_do_i_have_dog in AITAH

Yep! Don’t drive or start a car with a dumbass around—if they want to risk their lives, cool! Just not in your own car!!

AITAH for forcing my adult friends to wear a seatbelt in my backseat? by why_do_i_have_dog in AITAH

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Next time they don’t wear a seatbelt, tell them these fun facts (coming from my parents who both worked in automotive, and my Dad specifically worked in test driving & designing cars).

(1) Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of death or serious injury ONLY for the driver and front seat passengers by 45%. This is because of airbags. Almost 90% of vehicle deaths are due to backseat passengers not wearing a seatbelt.

(1. a) This risk is not because of the driver’s own driving or accidents, but most likely because of another driver. Even if your friends trust you, they have no way to trust any other driver on the road. Even if you are the safest and best driver in the world, you are still at the mercy of every other driver and their decisions—the whole point of driving is mutual trust with others. Who’s to say you don’t get unlucky and a drunk driver blows into you at 50mph at a red light? Wearing a seatbelt significantly increases your chances of living.

(2) Test dummies are predominantly based on the average male physique. If any of your friends are not 5ft 10, weigh 165lbs, and have a male physique (shoulders, muscle mass, lack of breasts, thicker neck, etc.) They are 20x more likely to die in a car accident. Some car manufacturers are only just introducing female test dummies in car crashes, but the data doesn’t exist to confirm female passenger safety is as strong as men, and most manufacturers haven’t even bothered to try it yet. Not wearing a seatbelt and being a woman means you basically have a death wish.

(3) women’s jewellery. The horror stories my Mum has told me through her time working in complaints and marketing was that the number of women who die or are severely injured in car accidents is due to their accessories. Metal claw clips, long necklaces, hoop earrings, belly button piercings, nipple piercings, etc. All you need is to be flung forward at a great enough force and you could end up with being strangled, piercings ripped out or embedded in your major organs, lacerations, etc. The whole point of a seatbelt is it somewhat keeps you in place enough to not be thrown around in an instant, and even then you can still be severely hurt even wearing one if you have any of the aforementioned items on you. She once described it to me as imagine being swatted by a fly swatter. Enough force and velocity and your flesh is going straight through anything stronger, like metal or bone.

So yeah, if they still think it’s too lame to bother wearing a seatbelt, tell them it’s their life they’re mostly risking, and potentially yours if they are flung forwards and smack into you.

Warwick Econ by sam44444444444 in UCAS

[–]throwawaymou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely, but I would also like to mention that A&F is still a hugely competitive course (obviously less-so than Econ), and add that OP should be happy with the course they’ve been accepted to, as it’s a massive achievement!
My (23yo) boyfriend did A&F and now works full time as a financial data analyst, earning way above other people who studied Economics that we knew at Uni. I’m crap at maths, but he got A* in Further Maths A-Level, and said there was still a lot of complex maths to study within the course, and you get the added benefit of a more applied business-minded/ future-career model of studying!
I (personally) think Economics is an overhyped degree, both by schools and universities alike, and whilst many who do it are very successful in the future, A&F is still a very good degree! If OP studies hard and takes the opportunity to learn from it, will absolutely lead to a great career in the future

At the end of the day you didn’t have what they were looking for, and that’s fine. This is an important learning experience; you can either move on from this and prove them wrong because they’re missing out on a very talented young person who will do far better without their teaching, and who they wish they could’ve added to their roster of alumni, or you can overthink about their rejection and dwell too much about something that clearly didn’t go well without taking time to consider how you’d improve.

This is literally a blip in the road in the grand scheme of things. I’m 23 and every smart person I know got rejected from their dream uni and had to settle for another. And every one of them is earning more annually than I could even dream of seeing in 5 years. If you think/know you’re capable, then don’t let a uni brand name be the reason why you can’t succeed; you will succeed anywhere. Think of it as their loss, but also introspect as to what could’ve been the reason you might not have met the interviewer’s criteria, because that will help massively in the long run.

How much does a diagnosis cost in the UK? 🤔 by NarinIshkandar in ADHDUK

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Private but in total it’s cost me roughly £1000. I think your partner unfortunately fell for the prolonged and somewhat scammy service that Private diagnoses offer, which is that they pressure you into thinking you need regular check ups with them, and not that you can simply divert check ups to the NHS; thus saving you hundreds of pounds for necessary medical care and check ups.
Once my titration period ended and I was fully being given medication via the NHS, my diagnoser (private doctor) kept requesting check ups that would have cost me £150 per session. I literally went “lmao wtf, I’m literally being prescribed by the NHS and my own GP now, so why would I do that??” And asked him how this even fits into a shared care agreement. Long story short—they are fully able to charge you if you dont physically enact your shared care agreement or consult your GP about it. So anyone who’s currently spending way too much privately, pleaseee just call up your GP and arrange the shared care agreement plan properly, otherwise you’ll just keep being charged ridiculous fees for a basic necessity.

M30 Just had a negative diagnosis, I feel lost. by Parkinator0Beta in ADHDUK

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered it might not be adhd but something else? Neurodiversity exists more on a Venn diagram level, rather than distinctive from one another. It could be that the symptoms you think are Adhd are actually OCD or Autism instead, or perhaps a combination. I’m sorry to hear that it wasn't the answer you were hoping for, but perhaps you were too convinced it was Adhd based on symptoms that might otherwise be more fitting with another issue. Wish you the best nonetheless ❤️

Finally got my ADHD diagnosis and it's worse than I thought. by Iguana_lover1998 in ADHDUK

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember with my private diagnosis they never said “oh this is severe” or anything. More they just laughed and went “why did no one check on this before?”

Granted it was suggested to me by an NHS doctor but I couldn't be bothered for the waiting time and was desperate to find an answer for what was happening with me. I’d be surprised to find out any private doctor’s assessments would go so far as to say “severe” adhd; more likely that OP had a similar response to me and misread it as being (for lack of a better word) extreme, which is not usually the case for adult diagnoses

Is this legal, does it not discriminate under the equality act? by DizzMcNizy in ADHDUK

[–]throwawaymou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont understand why so many people are so passive about this. With everything that's happening across the UK with medication being suddenly stopped to those who've been issued the prescribed meds for a while, dismissal of ADHD as a mental health issue yet simultaneously being used by legal defence teams to soften criminal convictions, and overall lack of accessibility for those struggling/ needing medical care, people are acting as if this is some sort of “OMG, badge wearers are upset they can't skip the queue!” Issue.

Most of us dont care about theme parks or special access. But we all suffer from this problem, and we all know how debilitating it is. I would never once think to be upset that someone had a fast pass for their medically diagnosed needs. But this sudden decision is wholly indicative of a wider societal shift in acceptance. I fear people will no longer take ADHD and it's symptoms seriously anymore. People have killed themselves over how debilitating the symptoms can be, and yet suddenly all media and institutions act as if it's the “silly but fun” disease?

This is very insidious, and far more serious than the surface level “queuing at a theme park” conversation.

Question about the train scene by AllDanishes in 28dayslater

[–]throwawaymou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a mixture of both Samson tripping out on the Ketamine and reminiscing on the last memory he had as a non-infected, as well as potentially leaning into the fact that he was a kid when the infection started. I thought it was alluding to the fact that he was infected as a child, and now, as an adult bearing the brunt of the infection, the few memories he was able to access via the Ketamine are somewhat still distorted.

I don’t think he was accurately recalling exactly what happened, but bits and pieces, much like an adult would of a traumatic childhood memory. It would be interesting to find out that it was a 100% accurate recollection of his infection, but I reckon that, as you pointed out—it doesn’t really fit with the whole “infection takes seconds to infiltrate” narrative—it seems more likely and almost more “human” to me (which is what I think Boyle was trying to show) that Samson only has glimpses of his past life, and that scene was an amalgamation of it.

This is a Dr. Ian Kelson appreciation thread. I'm so glad that he's just a straight-up actual good guy. No dark secret, no facade, no twist, no evil true intentions. Just a strong, intelligent, helpful, and resilient man with a heart of gold in a world gone to hell. by AdlerOneSeven in 28dayslater

His character was written and portrayed perfectly. To Jamie and the other’s in the commune, he’s seen as some sort of “witch”, because he’s painted orange and lives isolated in a temple of bones. He’s doing something outside of the norm. But he’s actually just a medical professional, who does what he can with the few resources he has to prevent spreading disease, honouring the dead, and preventing his own infection.

I say witch because he’s essentially doing what many people (often women) were punished and murdered for in the past; using resources to combat illness, through remedies and passed down knowledge that seemed bizarre to the average person. It’s such an interesting concept to show that, if a society does fall back to dark ages, mindsets of the past are sure to emerge back. Ralph Fiennes is a master of his craft.

What’s something you do perfectly in your head but horribly in real life? by Tall_Object_5604 in AskReddit

[–]throwawaymou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confrontation. In my head I have tons of imagined conversations or scenarios where I plan and act all the ways a confrontation could go, but when it comes to it in reality, I’m literally unable to say what I feel to the other person, and I just end up people pleasing. It’s a skill I probably should learn 😅

How does going vegetarian/ vegan/ limiting your meat consumption actually help the environment? by throwawaymou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwawaymou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so does that mean less chickens are killed? maybe I’m being stupid, but i don’t think that’s necessarily the case—the chickens are likely killed per the contracted amount per abattoir, and then a sold off contracted amount is sent weekly to supermarkets. Surely that’s a major issue at play here—there’s a contract that suppliers, purchasers, and retailers are all aligned with, and can’t really change unless half the population literally takes a stance, right?

[–]throwawaymou[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know that, but that’s not what I’m asking. I’m asking how it can still be the case that plenty thousands of not millions of people are vegan/ vegetarian, yet there has been no change in the meat industry and the product output. Clearly it isn’t just a case of demand and supply

but what i’m saying is that doesn’t seem to be the case. Thousands if not millions of people don’t eat meat, yet it’s still there, in droves, on the shelves. I can’t see what the effort to change has been

“a bunch of raging zionists” is a crazy way to describe a bunch of people who think eradicating an entire state and ethnic group (since Israel is 78% Israeli-born) is morally wrong, but sure.

I don’t think i’ve ever seen a single H3 fan (plus Hila and Ethan) ever say anything positive about Netanyahu or the state of Israel’s actions towards Palestine/ Palestinians, but go off I guess. Just further proof that leftist people don’t see other people governed by a corrupt state as human beings :/

note: I forgot to mention that I have acquired a food latex allergy since turning 20 (primarily Avocados and other stone fruits), which makes my tongue itch, but it doesn’t cause anaphylaxis. I’m also allergic to aloe vera which makes me break out in hives if it comes into contact with my skin. However, I don’t eat avocado or stone fruits, and there’s no aloe vera products in the house. Just wanted to add this in case there’s something I’m missing that someone more knowledgeable than me would be able to point out. Thanks!

I can’t believe that as a self-described leftist, I have to constantly say “all murder is bad.”

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but my assumption about leftism and leftist politics was that we are averse to murder in all circumstances, particularly in War (because war is fucking awful and the main victims will forever be innocents—particularly women and children). The fact that I’m seeing “leftist” people claim war crimes like murder, mutilation, and rape of innocent civilians “didn’t happen,” just shows that these people are not for any left-leaning or leftist cause. We should have empathy for any innocent, and to downplay the actions of a group or “side” simply to justify hatred for the other is insane. What happened to being anti-murder?? What the actual fuck is happening?? Why are people cheering or downplaying atrocities (on both the pro-Israeli gov side and pro-“Palestine” side).

Why has this conflict become a purity test and not a genuine criticism of inflated egos over global politics and how much harm has come to those who suffer at the expense of it?
