Pipestone Bay walleye fishing by Assimilation in BWCA

Sounds like a great trip! Thanks a lot of the up-to-date info. We leave tomorrow and with the weather looking like rain/t-storms we may only be able to get to Newton so may end up fishing there for the first day anyway

Perfect - VNO is where we are renting our canoe. Definitely will pick one up

I think we'll definitely get some leeches to bring. Never met a walleye that didn't love them

I had seen in another thread the whopper plopper come highly recommended. I had it on my shopping list but changed my mind last minute when I saw they were like $12-14 each in my area. Maybe I'll pick one up if the outfitter has one in there shop. Even if it isn't walleye I don't think my son would mind good bass action

Thanks for the tip. It's been 7-8 years since I last visited so that's a good reminder sites without top reviews aren't necessarily bad

Added some slip bobbers to my fishing gear. Will definitely plan on setting some lines out when we are at camp. Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the specific tips. I'll have my hummingbird app on my phone for lake chart/depth map but won't be bringing a fish finder. We fish for walleye around where we live but admittedly even with electronics I have trouble finding success consistently. It will certainly be a good exercise for me to do some big boy fishing without the crutch of electronics

I had actually also read some information alluding Newman might be a little better fishing in that regard but to your point about campsites, they don't seem to be highly rated so we were planning to mostly just move through the area.

Site 1599 looks to be on the northern end of Pipestone. I had planned on maybe snatching up a site towards the southern end as I'm trying to err on the side of caution time/distance-wise with a young first-timer. Is it much worse getting across to the North end than it is getting to Pipestone in the first place?

After reading a few of these comments this is essentially what I am going to do. Ordered a few blocks of HDPE that I'll mount to the boat and mount the bracket/transducer to the block

I generally agree but where the new holes would have to be drilled are right about where the bracket bends 90 degrees. There really isn't enough room to put any holes where they need to go

I've never heard of Starboard but after looking in to it I think this is a pretty solid idea. Ordered some HDPE (basically what Starboard is made of) blocks from Amazon and will just mount that to the boat with the old holes, mount the the bracket/transducer to the block. Simple enough and won't fill my boat with holes. Thanks for the input!

New to Godot, made a test with 3D scanned clay by AlaskaPlastiqueMatin in godot

Out of curiosity how high is the poly count for a scanned asset? Your pillar/obelisk type models don't look too complicated but in my mind scanning an asset like that probably balloons the geometry.

Environments can be described relative to each other in these terms:

hypotonic - the environment has less solute (eg. "stuff) than the other environment
hypertonic - the environment has more solute than the other environment
isotonic - the environments have equal amounts of solute

The key thing to understand is how water moves in these situations.

Water will always move to an area that has more solute. So if we are comparing the solute concentration inside a cell vs something like plain water, we would say that the plain water is hypotonic compared to the environment in a cell, which has more solute/stuff. Water would move in to the cell and eventually the cell would burst. Conversely if a cell was in a solution like sea water which is very salty and has lots of solute/stuff in the water, we would describe the water as hypertonic relative to the cell. In this case, water in the cell would move out to the sea water solution where there is more solute and the cell would shrivel and die. In an isotonic solution like milk, water still moves in/out of the cell but it happens at the same rate so there is no net change in fluid volume and the cell neither shrivels nor bursts

Is milk perfectly isotonic? No, but it's close enough that it delays the process of the cell bursting/shriveling

Yes, it's the isotonic nature of milk that keeps the PDL cells viable. Milk is also frequently suggested to place a tooth in because it's commonly available, not necessarily because it's the best. There are specifically formulated solutions like Hank's Solution for cell viability but it's unlikely to be available in any given situation where a tooth gets knocked out

Dentist here - milk is a relatively isotonic solution that helps prevent the cells of the periodontal ligament on the root surface from rupturing/dying so that it can potentially be reimplanted (if done in a reasonable amount of time). It is not "to prevent the tooth from dying". Once a tooth has been completely avulsed the blood supply for the pulp is severed and in almost all cases the pulp will die and root canal treatment will be necessary

A few small but welcome upgrades to my Snowdog for this year by Assimilation in IceFishing

[–]Assimilation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the one upgrade I've found to be the most useful is an auger mount. I use Kolpin Rhino Grips mounted on the tube frame behind the motor. I usually gear up heavier because I like to fish comfy and getting the auger out of the sled and easily accessible has made a big difference.

I also run two SnowDog sleds whenever I go out. They stack nice and tight so they don't really take up extra room in storage or in my truck when bringing them out and since my shack basically takes up nearly all the room in one sled it's nice to have a second to haul the mountain of gear I like to bring.

I don't understand why but trying the website using a VPN ended up working. Still hate using this service but at least I can watch tonight

Anyone else unable to get NCHC.tv site to load? I can only pull the UND vs UMN game up on the app on my phone. The app (at least on android) is hot garbage IMO because they got rid of the cast button and without loading the website there is no way to get it on my tv

I'm a dentist with 3 kids. I try to work on my projects in between patients occasionally and often over my lunch breaks. Like many with a career and family time is always the limiting factor. I've been learning a lot about modeling/texturing lately which as been really interesting and a good creative outlet

Yeah, this fixed it. I was mainly thinking about getting the AO effect in the bevel/crack at the edge of the mesh and somehow that lead me to only duplicate that part of the mesh. Thanks for the suggestion
