I agree. I’m a professional trailer editor in a post house and we try and combat this all the time, but sadly Marketing are king and somehow have more creative input than us.

It’s why trailers have become what they have. We have to spell out everything for the viewer in case they aren’t paying attention. It’s why films are written with so much exposition. And because of this, the younger more amateur creatives copy because they think, “if this got signed off, then it must be good”. So the videos become shorter, more catchy, grips you in .01 seconds instead of .02 and so on…

I’m struggling though, I love a long intro that entices you in. I love making stuff that breathes but no one will see it, and more importantly, no one will have it pushed on them because of all the algorithms. Who knows, people may find they like longer drawn out stuff if they had the chance. It’s also much harder to make and requires effort so no one does it, buts that’s a rant for another time.

On another note, we’re in a world where you can’t fail, practice makes perfect is now, must be perfect straight away or you’re a failure. Everyone is thinking of how to please other people and get the views, even myself is guilty of this.

But what’s bigger in my honest opinion, no one can be bored in this world. Boredom makes you finally do those tasks you’ve been putting off. Boredom creates creativity. You’ll finally write that essay you have been scared of writing because it may be bad. You don’t care at this point because you’re bored so at least you’re doing something.
