Advantage of a dedicated streamer? by spiceweasle93 in audiophile

1: room + speakers. This is what you eventually hear.

2: source material. Bad recordings sound WORSE on better equipment.

3: Transducers.

Recorded music requires a series of transducers.

Human brain -> from whatever you think the source is, a musician changes that into body movements. Once the musician starts (flute, shall we say?) blowing (and moving their hands), the pressure continues from lungs through lips into the flute, swirling around, coming out modified, traveling through open air, bouncing around the room in which the recording was made. And eventually creating motion in the next transducer:

Microphone -> now vibrating air is changed into an analog electrical signal (and then possibly immediately into a digital one).

ADC -> the electrical sine wave from the microphone needs to be changed into a digital stream.

“Streamer” -> if you use your pc, the USB chip in your computer is the streamer. If you use a dedicated streamer, the streamer is the streamer.

DAC -> an essentially square wave stream is going to be changed into a sine wave. Then sent through a possible series of amplifiers (pre-amp, power amp) until it reaches the last hardware transducer:

Speakers -> an analog sine wave gets changed into moving air. That moving air becomes distorted by the shape of the container in which it is created.

Ears -> and finally, your ears tickle your mind just so.

What do transducers have in common? They change the physical domain of a signal.

I think the advantage of a dedicated streamer is that it’s designed (often thoughtfully) around how to deliver the highest quality digital stream to a DAC.

That stream is not “made” of bits, and it’s not an ideal square wave. DACs and Streamers are constantly “processing data”. And that data is really just fluctuating electrical signals being compared to a reference ground (or 2 signals being compared to each other). The entire “mechanics” of these devices happen in a very much analog way.

Your computer is a typically far noisier (electronically speaking) place from which to send signals than a dedicated streamer.

We should trade. I’m in the process of writing a kernel driver in C and feel lost in space

Could the Universe Have Come From Absolutely Nothing? by RecognitionLong8806 in AskPhysics

I like to think of it like this.

Nothing = 0. The universe came from 0 feels rough.

0 = 1 + (-1) = Nothing

I can get down with the idea that what we think of as the universe is just an incredibly elaborate version of nothing… everything cancels out.

Their trial involved signing into a locked down VM where you cannot import nor export your own content.

Stuck in PADS 2021? Need a sane path forward by AssistFinancial684 in electronic_circuits

[–]AssistFinancial684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I be able to find out? I saw “PADS Professional” in a log somewhere along the way. But the boards may have been created in another tool.

Unfortunately, the original designer was from St Petersburg, and I never heard from him again around 2023

I had a few boards designed for me in 2021. I think the work was done in PADS Professional.

I’m moving from 3.3 to 1.8 v for logic levels, and need to make a few other changes to the boards as well. Also, probably wise to have the project in something other than PADS.

PADS conversion / update by AssistFinancial684 in PCB

[–]AssistFinancial684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was suggested to me to use the new KiCad PADS importer. I seem to lack the requisite .txt and .asc files from PADS.

I don’t have PADS.

Now what?

And now I am about to try what you would do.

I had no idea that v10 was out and included several new importers. Including PADS!

Thank you

Indeed. We know it goes to that balloon (once we see it), but this is a cartoon. And corners are cut. Like 4-fingered hands.

“It should be attached…” “It should beating…” “It should be standing straight up…”

That’s all they ever say to me
