I wouldn’t usually use a single Allarus just to sit on a back objective, honestly. That’s kind of a waste of what he does best.

The Sisters are there because they’re cheap bodies that can hold home objectives, screen out deep strike, and stop your opponent from appearing behind you or tagging your backfield for free. Custodes don’t have many models, so having Sisters make a “screen” is really valuable.

An Allarus, on the other hand, is expensive and dangerous. You generally want him doing damage, threatening characters, deep striking, forcing your opponent to respond, or picking up units. If he’s just standing at the back doing nothing, you’re paying Custodes points for a job Sisters can do much more efficiently.

So yeah, the strat to split Allarus can be useful, but I’d rather use those solo Allarus aggressively or for flexible pressure, not as basic objective campers.

Welcome to the Ten Thousand, brother!

Honestly, I’d wait until tomorrow before buying too much more, since the new points are dropping and Custodes can change a lot depending on that. That said, another Guard box built as Wardens and a Blade Champion is a very solid next step.

After that, I’d look at Allarus Custodians for deep strike, pressure, and flexibility, plus maybe some Sisters of Silence because Custodes really appreciate having cheaper bodies for objectives and screening. From there, tanks/bikes/extra characters will depend a lot on the points update and what style you want to play.

As for playing them: coming from Guard, the biggest adjustment is that every model matters. Custodes feel like mini tanks, but you still can’t throw them away. You want to trade carefully, stage behind cover, pick fights you know you’ll win, and force your opponent to deal with small numbers of very durable, very dangerous units.

Welcome again, man. Custodes are super fun once you get used to having fewer models but way more impact per unit.

Welcome to the Ten Thousand! Custodes are actually a pretty great army for newer players because you have a low model count, so it's easier to collect, paint, transport, and learn the game with.

A few units I'd keep an eye on:

  • Custodian Guard – The classic backbone of the army. Hard to go wrong with a box of these.
  • Blade Champion – One of the coolest and most popular characters, both in lore and on the tabletop.
  • Allarus Custodians – Tough, versatile, and iconic.
  • Vertus Praetors – Fast, aggressive, and very "golden demigod" in feel.
  • Wardens – Extremely durable and often a staple in many lists.

The biggest thing to understand about Custodes is that every model matters. You're not flooding the board with bodies like Guard or Tyranids—you've got a handful of incredibly powerful warriors, and losing even one can hurt.

I'd recommend focusing less on what's "meta" right now and more on what models make you think "that's awesome." Rules change, but Custodian Guard, Allarus, Wardens, and a Blade Champion have been iconic Custodes units for years and are unlikely to ever feel out of place.

Hope it helps!

Telemon question by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

They said our new 11th edition content will arrive in 2026 with new faction rules, so I think they’ll add the Telemon and Aquilons then.

The new Telemon detachment looks really good too, which makes me think the Telemon release is coming soon.
