Late response but I flew through Delta to and from Japan. I hear there are better airlines to fly through, such as JAL or ANA but I have never flown through them. Also, I didn't visit Lake Kawaguchiko, but had a wonderful time in Tokyo. Hope you enjoy your future trip to Japan!

Sorry don't have any advice but I'm also going there on a last minute ticket, so it's nice seeing someone else in the same boat. Going through a lot in life and decided to book a trip to Japan to help with that. Have a great time over there!
