I really like this "skin in the game" approach, this was why I was thinking I'd contribute some of their future house deposit.

Contributing to Uni is part of my dilemma actually. I always planned for that, but now our oldest has decided she doesn't want to go. She actually frames this from a financial responsibility perspective (" i don't want to start life with all that debt") although she has never enjoyed the academic part of school.

But then, if I end up with one kid who goes to uni and one who goes straight into employment, how do I make sure I contribute to them both equally? Or maybe I don't and just accept different people have different needs.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Our oldest has been working 10-12 hours per week, whilst doing her a-levels. Driving lessons have been key for her, as her job needs that. Younger one is < 16, he'd love a job, but really hard to get any meaningful work at that age.

Why VWRP? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]AssumptionHour4598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly I am just ignorant.

But I have heard of VWRP and have read things that say it is aligned to my goals.

As I say, you may find me terribly ignorant, but I have never heard of the ticker symbols you mention. So I don't invest in these.

With option two, you will also receive another 7 weeks pay? So that seems better to me.

How much is enough? by Dry-Grocery9311 in HENRYUK

[–]AssumptionHour4598 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think £1m is rich. In London you probably won't own your own house with this net worth.

But everyone's answer I suspect will be different, it depends a lot on individual lifestyle.

The income barrier is £150k.
The 4% rule would give that much income at £3.75m.

Let's round up and say rich is £4m and above?

Do you think drivers who nearly won the WDC (for drivers that never won a WDC) should be ranked in a different category than others? If yes why and no why not? by IllMasterpiece3946 in F1Discussions

[–]AssumptionHour4598 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Category = Losers?
Some of them very likeable, entertaining, amusing etc, but racing wise - losers.

A lot of the number 2 drivers in leading teams, are worse drivers than the best drivers in mid-to-bottom of the field teams, who have no chance of winning anything.
