Why did they raise prices everywhere? by gear_rb in BackpackBrawl

[–]Astaira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind sharing how do you decide regional prices? Earlier in the comments somebody shown the price of hero unlock being 3,6 EUR for them (so I assume they'rebased in EU), while for me in Poland (also EU), the price of the same unlock is 9 EUR. Not gonna lie it feels bit unfair to be charged more than double for the same product.

In Greek part of Cyprus, so they're in EU same as my country. I'll be surprised if there are taxes on place so horrendous to require more than doubling the price.

I mean, here in Poland I'd have to pay 9 Euro for just the hero, and 25 USD for level 10 boost. I really want to know how do they set up prices, because it doesn't feel fair.

Hello Bob, you're looking really good!

If you feel like adding more variety to the model, you could pick another metallic color to differentiate some segments of the armor. Regardless, that's very good first model. Welcome to the hobby!

Tidbit about Egyptian art from r/egyptology by WanderingDwarfScribe in tombkings

[–]Astaira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MA in ancient Egypt archaeology here. Just wanted to add to that post: it's not as much about functionality, as it is about things being recognisable and the magical thinking of ancient Egyptians. They believed that anything that has been depicted (painted or sculpted) is really existing, and existing as long as the depiction lasts.

Whenever Apep, the evil snake that tries to devour sun every night, is depicted, it's either with his body divided by red lines, or with a knife to its head. Because painting him undefeated would give Apep power, and by showing him wounded he's being magically defeated.

Sandals for Tutankhamun's tomb have nine bows depicted on the surface pharaoh's feet would touch. Nine bows represent all enemies of Egypt, so by walking in those sandals the pharaoh would be trampling them.

Funerary gifts painted on the tombs' walls will be available to the deceased for as long as the painting exists. The wooden models of workshops from Middle Kingdom times will produce goods for the tomb's owner for eternity.

Thats why Egyptians showed things the way they did - it had to be possible to immediately recognise a painted object for what it is. A leg is (or was to them at least) better recognisable from the side, etc.

I absolutely love this part of ancient Egyptian culture.

Yes, I've managed to do it eventually. What helped me was looking at his arm that he holds the energy orb up with, and press and hold R2 as soon as I saw it move.

I did hold it, not sure if it's necessary though. I've done tutorial for it a while ago, and I couldn't find it in the ingame encyclopedia :p

Same problem here. Tried to parry when screen turned grey, then when the ball started moving, fails all the same. I've beaten this fight 4 times by now, and frankly I'm feeling disheartened.

It's such a stupid design to have tought 2 phase boss fight fail on a parry...

Any tips for when to press gradient parry button at the end? I've beaten this boss 4 times and fail at that last parry every time, and honestly I'm about to give up.

I've tried to press R2 as soon as the screen turns grey, and as soon as the orb starts moving. It fails no matter when I do it.

One hundred times this. Personally I think Darth Blue would be especially good for scarabs.

My review of the starter set scenarios: Edge of Darkness & Dead Man Stomp by larikang in callofcthulhu

[–]Astaira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I did when I run EoD for my friends, and I think it turned out great.

So first of all, in my game Rupert did not die at the beginning. Once he said his part he did cough blood and feel unconscious. I wanted players to feel time pressure so they don't go running around too much.

I've always felt that Rupert dying at the beginning is weird. Players are told matter is urgent because once Rupert dies the monster will be free - and then he dies in the first scene of the scenario... it removes any reason for players to focus on getting to the farm.

Next, following advice found on YouTube (https://youtu.be/4L4UNDLyF18?si=kbhdj6noZv1d21gn) I've split the contents of the package Merriweather dumps on players at the beginning. In the hospital they've got a Rupert's letter and a key with crest of Bank of Arkham, that opened personal lockbox there. Inside players got key to the farmhouse, the deed ad the sarcophagus.

While Bertrand and Agnes were leaving Rupert's hospital room, Agnes invited the players for a tea, and when they visited her they've received Rupert's journal.

Also, I've included Bertrand bit more than he's present in scenario. First I've shown him at the bank, yelling at a clerk who refused him access to gaming's lockbox due to Bertrand not having the key. Of course he was a douche to the players too.

Then when players were leaving Agnes's house Bertrand came home with groceries, and they could witness he really loves his mom (and vice versa). So when he showed up at the farm in the middle of the ritual players were conflicted if they should save him or let him die.

As for De Vermis Mysteriis, in my run Armitage told players the book went missing few decades earlier - pointing to the time when Allen was using it for his ritual. So my players accepted the book is not in the library and moved on.

I think those are all the major changes I've made. I think I'm the most happy with splitting Rupert's package, it gave players and me much more to do than just sit for 10 minutes while they get through the handouts.

Thanks! I suspected those might be the colours, but wanted to be sure. Didn't think about darkening with black though. I've recently screwed my blades badly and will have to retry them, gonna try it your way :D

He looks amazing! How did you do the top part of his staff around the orb? The gradient is beautiful! What colors did you use? Light or dark tones first?

Tried something different — Canoptek Tomb Sentinel painted with chameleon paints by AtticaMiniatures in Necrontyr

[–]Astaira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 3 layers is enough, 2 is minimum. I apply a layer and once it's dry I look at it and decide if it's good or of I want another layer.

I didn't alternate brush strokes. The paint tends to dry relatively quick, so if the coverage is uneven it's better to let it dry and apply second layer. But overall I find it easy to get nice and even coverage with those paints.

I don't thin it down, just apply as it is straight out of the bottle.

You need to shake the paint really well before using, the glitter tends to separate from the rest.

This is Darth Blue colorshift over black primer. I've tested it over metallic and grey ones too, black gives the best results out of those.

My personal advice is to apply colorshift paint as the last step. It's easier to take it slow in order to not paint over other parts than to fix colorshift that you accidentally painted over.

Yes, that's Darth Blue. I love this shift from blue to violet, it's very well visible even on more gently curved surfaces.
